LUSH Mask of Magnaminty Review

LUSH Mask of Magnaminty Review

Mint masks are becoming increasingly popular these days. To my knowledge, I have seen each and every cosmetic company trying to incorporate mint into some product or the other.

LUSH’s mask of magnaminty promises deep cleansing and pore tightening. It also claims to keep acne at bay and prevents new ones from appearing.

What does LUSH have to say about Mask of Magnaminty?

Deep cleansing, minty face and back pack. Do you ever feel so grubby you think you’ll never get clean again? After an overnight flight, a marathon in a rabbit suit or a walk along the Marylebone Road during rush hour, do you feel a deep need to be scrubbed clean? Here’s a cleansing mask to do exactly that, with china clay and bentonite gel to suck the dirt out of your pores, ground aduki beans and evening primrose seeds to exfoliate away your mucky, surface skin cells and loads of peppermint oil to make you feel so clean, fresh and minty that you’ll forget you were ever grubby.

China clay and bentonite gel will pull the dirt from your pores, ground aduki beans and evening primrose seeds exfoliate surface skin cells, and peppermint oil will make you feel so fresh and minty that you’ll forget you were ever grubby.

Ground aduki beans remove dead skin cells when used on the skin as an exfoliating powder. They polish the skin, leaving it healthy and renewed.

What I think about LUSH Mask of Magnaminty ?

This mask is listed in the Lush website as a cleanser and not a face mask! I am confused, but it does cleanses to an extent imho :). This is not a fresh face mask, so the shelf life of this is far better than the other products/fresh face masks from Lush. This is supposed to last a good three months. It’s been more than that since I got mine, and it still seems to be fine. I have been storing all my LUSH stuff in the fridge religiously and I am thinking, they will last a couple of weeks beyond the date mentioned in the pack. As usual with LUSH, storage is the key.

A look at the LUSH Mask of Magnaminty .
LUSH Mask of Magnaminty
The mask is green in colour, with chunky dark colored beads in it which, I believe is ground aduki beans. The aduki beans help in exfoliating and washing the mask off once it’s dry.

Honestly, I do not like the smell of this mask. It smells, rather stinks of some weird minty stuff. But once applied on the face, the smell thankfully goes off.

Application wise, it’s not a pleasure to apply either. It’s chunky, which makes it tough to apply. In fact, it’s so chunky that when we apply, the aduki beans might start falling off on the floor making it messy. The situation worsens when it starts to dry! So, I usually spend the “mask drying time” (lol, I know there is no such phrase) reading a book or browsing just to keep away from creating a mess :).

It gives a nice tingly feeling once applied. Dries off fully in about 10-15 minutes.

I just scrub the aduki beans and wash off the mask with cold water making sure I exfoliate well.

It’s nice and refreshing to use this. My skin looks brighter which I think is because of the deep cleansing it does. It can be a bit drying sometimes, but nothing moisturizer can’t fix!  This one is definitely a boon to people with acne prone, oily skin and perfect to use in scorching weathers. But, I don’t see so much of results for the price tag that this comes with! I have used it many times, and every time I use this, my skin looks refreshed, but just for a while. 🙂
I think, I can achieve similar results with an inexpensive mint mask, washing it off with nice cold water.

In fact, I have found that the “Queen Helen Mint Julep Masque” is a wonderful and affordable alternative to this one.

What I like aboutLUSH Mask of Magnaminty :

  • Brightens skin to an extent.
  • Deep cleanses and controls oil. This would be great for acne, blemish prone oily skin. I have used this during summers and works fine for me ( I don’t have oily skin except in hot weathers, my T-zone gets oily). However, I feel it might leave skin a bit stretchy during winter.
  • Quality ingredients with no or very less preservatives.

What I dislike about LUSH Mask of Magnaminty :

  • Expensive for a mask that lasts just about 3 months(or maybe a week extra if stored properly). I am sure most of us won’t be able to finish this fully. So, there’s going to be a lot of product wastage considering we apply it twice a week and I am talking about the small tub here! If you plan to buy, try to share it with a friend (who is willing to try this obviously) which will save you money and product.
  • Unhygienic tub packaging.
  • Smells weird. At least to me 🙁
  • Messy application.

Will I re-purchase LUSH Mask of Magnaminty ?

Don’t think so. Unless lush has a super sale and slashes the price by say 65%? 😉
Overall, it’s a decent mask but don’t expect miracles. To sum up, you would get brighter skin to an extent and your oily t-zone would be controlled. But, there are so many inexpensive or even home-made masks that can do the same job with the fraction of the cost 🙂

  1. I think Lush got famous for its natural ingredients. So I guess they take time to show results and you would have to use them religiously to see some good results. Now the main problem is that they are super expensive and other that they expire within 3 months. I don’t think you can really finish up so much within such a small period. So it leaves a bad taste in your mouth and you never repurchase them. Either they should lower the price or do something about the preservation.

Another fail!! Feeling bad now. :((

    1. Ya…Lush should definately do something either abt the price or quantity…the mask is decent…but nothing great about it that makes me want to buy it again n again…about LUSH being natural, I do accept, but this one has Methylparaben 🙁

            1. In fact, they even use Perfume as one of their ingredients…I don think that’s natural as well…But their Vegan claim is true 🙂

              1. Appu, their perfume ingredient is the only ingredient they don’t tell what it is…its natural essential oil kind of mix but they don’t reveal the content like a trade secret. I read it on the Lush site only somewhere

  2. You know the SA, she told me to use it on my back…is written on the tub too. I was staring at her….spend so much money for putting on my back?????? Ha..I will put besan…or I will scrub a bit harder with my loofah 😀

But that apart, I found Magnaminty a pretty decent basic mask. And it didn’t fall off in bits and pieces like that for me..thank goodness!

    1. Lol 🙂 so much for a back mask?? Actually, since I wanna finish it, I am using it on my neck and feet n all 🙂 I don’t know why, but everytime I apply this, it keeps falling off into chunks 🙁

  3. Goodness don’t waste it on your feet. I think you should be careful not to let the product dry out in the tub…though from the photo it looks good enough. It does not go on like a smooth paste..so don’t try to spread it into a thin film. Leave your face damp, it will help this go on better. Maybe you shouldn’t wait for it to dry, just leave it on for 10 min and wash off….its when it goes totally dry it might be falling off.

    1. Rads, Mine’s past the expiration date(a week) and still seems fine..hasn’t dried or anything. Maybe yeah, I should try it on my face when it’s damp and wash it before it dries 🙂 When I put it on my feet, its way worse, I can’t even walk when it starts to dry…u can imagine! 🙂

  4. I kept mine in the fridge and was fine wayyyy past the expiration date. I bought a small dabba, not the bigger one, though it was cheaper. When you use a foot mask na, not just this, any foot mask, after applying the mask, wrap your feet in cling wrap. The mask works better, and no mess.

  5. I’m a bit lazy when it comes to applying face mask.. 🙁 🙁 The good news is Lush is opening at Chenai.. So i’ll chk this mask then 🙂

    The review is fab

    1. Sure Priya chk it out 🙂 with LUSH you may actually be motivated to use masks with the color and different flavours 😉 …and hey where in Chennai is it opening? Just curious 😉

      1. I hrd ut’s opening at Express Avenue.. There are new brands that have opened at Express but I’ve not cn Lush.. :waiting: :waiting: :waiting:

  6. Hey you gurlz, what r you all doing???? Nob ody;z misssing me or what?????? :-(( even Rads seems to have become pretty decent.

  7. Even i am using there face mask-love luttuce..again it is good but not all that helpful…

The best product that I have used so far is there cleanser-Fresh Farmacy….its made up of calamine and chamomile among other ingredients gr8 for troublesome skin

        1. Hi Appu great review!
I have used the cosmetic warrior and the catastrophic cosmetic face packs before and have found them pretty good.
Have to check this out. 🙂

          1. Hey Sandhya,

Thank you 🙂 I’ve tried Catastrophe cosmetic before and loved it! gonna buy another soon 🙂 I am however hesitant to try cosmetic warrior…i’ve heard ppl rave abt it but kinda feel i might not like it bcoz of the garlic content 🙁 I think i ‘ll take a whiff at the LUSH store next time 🙂

  8. I am really drawn to Lush -though I have never tested it myself. They don’t have store here and online shopping seems a bit of when it comes to cosmetics.

  9. Juliet – Lush has some very good stuff…But i cannot say all of ’em work 🙂 …Also, not everything from Lush is available online 🙁 where do u live?

  10. Everytime I pass the Lush outlet here, I resist going in only because I dont want to spend money on something which has a short shelf life.. but I love looking at the shop from outside, its so colourful and fragrant..and of course Aidan thinks its a candy store :D.
But Im noting down all your recommends, I know Im gonna succumb one day soon 😀

    1. hehe Renuca…I used to be the same way earlier…but once u enter the store n start buying…u ll wanna come back again n again 😉 do some LUSH haulin’ soon 😉

  11. I’ve heard great things about Lush in general, never tried anything though but to visit their shop is certainly on my to do list. Great review, I don’t think I would really mind the smell but I’m way too clumsy for this kind of application. And it’s a pity that it doesn’t last very long.
.-= Sunaina´s last blog ..Must have maxis =-.

    1. Thanks Sunaina,

Actually they give u a specific date until which the product can be used safely…but if u store it the fridge, it will last u wayy more than that…so no worries 😉 Let me know wat u buy from there 🙂

  12. Mask of magnaminty is my go to mask. Been using it for years, and it’s never failed me.
My skin feels cleaner and the difference is visible. This mask also helped keep pimples away. In case one pops up. I just put on the mask for two consecutive days and it’s gone completely.
