Lush Mint Julips Peppermint and Chocolate Sugar Lip Scrub

Hi Girls,

Today, I’m going to review one of the Lush products I use.  I have only purchased very few products from Lush, but this is one of my favourites. It is the Lush Mint Julips Peppermint and Chocolate Sugar Lip Scrub.  This is the very first lip scrub I have ever used. I bought this about four months back and I have been using this at least once a week now, and I would say this product has really done justice to my pocket and my lips. :-*

Lush Mint Julips Peppermint and Chocolate Sugar Lip Scrub

Product Description and Claims:

Our fabulous lip scrubs are here to keep your kissers sweet. When you use Mint Julips, you’ll find yourself craving a bowl of mint-chocolate chip ice cream. It’s made with refreshing peppermint oil, which will make your lips feel soothed and tingly, and sweet vanilla extract to lock in moisture and protect your lips. Simply rub it over your lips when they’re feeling the need for some sugar.

My Experience with Lush Mint Julips Peppermint and Chocolate Sugar Lip Scrub:

When I first opened it and took some product into my fingers, my first impression was “this is going to be too harsh for my lips,” as the sugar granules were not very powdery, it was real castor sugar as it is. However, when I applied it to my lips and started to exfoliate, I could see the sugar granules actually melt away leaving oil on my skin (which I assume is the jojoba oil and peppermint oil).  The product smells of peppermint and chocolate, so if I put it in another way, it smells exactly like “peppermint chocolate :silly: ”.The scrub is not at all harsh on my lips and I would say it’s safe to use almost every day if the need arises.

After washing it off, what was revealed was soft and smooth lips :-* After exfoliating, you can apply lip balm if you want; however, it is not needed. The jojoba oil moisturises the lips well. On some days, if I feel like it, I break open a vitamin E capsule and apply it on to my exfoliated lips, that is if I stay at home  just for some extra TLC for my lips.

As someone who wears nude/mauve lipsticks or at times just lip gloss, it is very important for me to have super smooth lips, as these kind of sheer lipsticks/glosses cannot camouflage dry and flaking lips.  However tempting it is, I have never tried eating it, but if you want to, no one is stopping you!! :shying: I didn’t see anywhere in the label that says “harmful if consumed.” 😛

Why I Adore Lush Mint Julips Peppermint and Chocolate Sugar Lip Scrub:

  • Exfoliates lips well without being too harsh on the lips.
  • Leaves behind moisture so that lips don’t dry afterwards.
  • Smells yummy (if you like peppermint chocolate).
  • Comes in a cute jar and is easy to take along during travelling.
  • As only a small amount of product is used, do not need to repurchase often.
  • Unlike most other Lush products which have short shelf lives, this product has almost 14 months of shelf life.

What I Do Not Like about Lush Mint Julips Peppermint and Chocolate Sugar Lip Scrub:

  • I wish it came in a small tube, just like St. Ives Apricot Scrub.
  • Applying the sugar granules on to the lips does cause a bit of a mess, because some granules just fall off from your fingers even before you start exfoliating.
  • Price, I think it is quite pricey for 25 g.

IMBB Rating:

I will give 4/5 for this product.

Will I Repurchase Lush Mint Julips Peppermint and Chocolate Sugar Lip Scrub?

Yes, I sure will because when I finish this jar, it will be winter for us and this product is one of my HG products during winter.

  2. I wanted to try these lip scrubs but actually thought that the granules would be too coarse :methinks: :methinks: . Thanks for the review :jog: :jog: :jog:

  3. sounds like a interesting product.. i have not used lip scrubs before.. just used an old baby toothbrush with some sugar and coconut oil to scrub… could someone tell me if its important to scrub lips too regularly? cant one use the face scrubs instead and top it off with a nice lip balm? how is a lip scrub different? i know, dumb questions, but i really have no idea about these..

    1. Hi swati,

You can definitely use an old lipscrub sugar and oil, it will also work well for you , and is also economical. You can even use the toothbrush by itself as long as you condition your lips afterwards.

For me , it is just that everytime I dont want to reach for a toothbrush, sugar and oil, this lip scrub is compact and saves time and I can take it everywhere with me.

However, I would suggest not using a face scrub on the lips, as face scrubs are more softer with smaller particles , it might not give you enough exfoliation, and also because I dont want to swallow bit of a face scrub even by accident.

Whether you want to scrub your lips regularly or not depends on the status of your lips (As in flaky/smooth), climate you live in, whether you wear nude lipsticks/lipgloss or dark/bright colours.

If you live in a tropical climate with no winter watsover and if your lips are not flaky there is no need to use a lipscrub at all.

      Hope it helps.
