MAC Brick-o-la Lipstick Review

MAC brick o la lipstick review

Price : Rs 990

MAC describes Brick-o-la as mid tone berry. It is an amplified cream lipstick.

I have had Brick-o-la since months now but it is only recently that I have worn it a couple of times. It is a pretty berry brown color ย and mostly gorgeous for those ย with medium to dusky skin tones. I mean not that those with light skin tones can’t wear this color, I personally don’t like it on myself that much. It is a nice creamy lipstick and stays put on my lips for 4+ hours and it fades as a rosy stain on my lips. I find it quite moisturizing on lips. It gives a soft glossy look to the lips. It is very pigmented. On swipe of color gives a ton of color. It does not settle in fine lines and I feel the glossiness of the lipstick is quite forgiving on bad lips day as well.

It has the regular vanilla fragrance but no taste.

The only annoying thing I find about this lipstick is that is transfers a lot if you drink something within 1st hour of wear.. You take a sip from a mug and a huge blob of color gets transferred.

Some of the potential dupes of this lipstick are Streetwear Cherry Crushย and Faces Lipstick in Berry Brown

Overall, a very nice lipstick if you like the color – fabulous texture, feel, and wear. Absolutely great shade for those with dusky skin tones.

  1. nice to know dupes too ๐Ÿ™‚ come to think of it I hardly own any brown lippie shades O_o so tempted to get some..i do love shades like these but Velvet Teddy looks better than this 1 ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. the way you say whether if a lipstick shade will suit certain skin tones is commendable and i thank you whole heartedly for that.because my skin tone is on the darker side and i dont find much reviews for it.thank you rati ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. it looks reddish on you and on me it turns more brown but very wearable
And you were right it looks very pretty on dusky skintones ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. thanks nidhi. try it out. :))

yeah it would look more brownish on dusky skin tones. it would blend more with their color than on mine . thanks for the heads up! ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. oooo such a beauty ….This is so famous na and U can look great in all warm shades but I think you can rock plums too ๐Ÿ™‚ waiting for more

  5. Hi Rati,

New to makeup, IMB is been gr8 inspiration, wanted to buy a pink lipstick in MAC, can you suggest. I am not so fair but not medium fair, opsss cant able to describe the skin.

        1. try creme in your coffee for light pink, very forgiving shade, also look for amorous if you want a hint of purple in your pink…

  6. lovely on you…. can i ask smthng rati?
how do u cleanup n soften your eyemakeup?by powder or by q-tips?do u mositen the q-tps before?wht bt glittery ones which stick to outer corners? thnxx

    1. You can clean glitters that had fallen out by using tapes.. but you should re-do the concealer ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚ have seen it in julieg’s youtube reviews..

    1. yeah parita.. you would find more dupes of this one in our local lakmes and lotus as well.

ife, i use brushes but if I have to clean may be near the edges or something, I use q tips. Mostly i dont apply anything on the Q tip but sometimes I just pat a teeny meeny bit of cream to soften the cotton.

glittery ones?? i dint get you..

      1. hi hi i meant shimmer… i think i take too much on the brush because outer corner will have shimmers somehow… i will try the cream on q-tip trick… now using aloe gel on -tip… txxx only beginner….

  7. I have this exact shade! It was gifted to be by my aunt. I cannot get the right amount! It is so pigmented that i literally put it on and then wipe off some so that its not too dark! How exactly can i put the right amount without it getting flaky?

  8. I LOVE this shade, I own and its just perfect for those not too special but not quite casual occasions and its pretty good on medium to dusky tones !!!

    1. sangeeta, you can use lots of earthy tones and even nude pinks with this one. – colorbar just earth, mac margin. shades such as these : https://makeupandbeauty.com/mac-fleet-fast-blush-review-swatch-fotd/

      https://makeupandbeauty.com/bourjois-pot-blush-rose-eclat-review/

and eyeshadows , I have mostly kept neutrals or something like this : https://makeupandbeauty.com/mac-naked-lunch-eyeshadow-review/

i feel the colors on the eyes sort of clashes with the brightness of this lip color. Hope that helps. ๐Ÿ™‚

  9. Hi Rati… I too own Brick-o-la and it looks really awesome. I was so impressed with this particular shade that I gifted one to my sister as well. She loves it too!!

Btw… I wanted to share something… I was reading your blog regarding your search for makeup classes in Delhi last week and how you zeroed down to 1. I too loved doing make up and being a makeup junkie, I keep on picking up stuffs whenever I am travelling in India and abroad..but till you do not know to use the products correctly, it is of no use. I was really motivated on reading your blog…I went ahead to find one for me here in Mumbai…. so here I am…. finally I am attending a makeup workshop which is commencing this weekend… I have already scheduled and planned my commitments to make sure I am able to get maximum out of it… looking forward to have a nice time there and will be posting few of my looks that I try!!!

    1. Hi Shraddha, Thanks a ton!! I am sure the workshop would be very beneficial. Sometimes you need that real time help from the experts. Good luck with your classes. I hope you have a great time there. Do share your learnings from your workshop. ๐Ÿ™‚
