MAC Electric Eel Eyeshadow Review

MAC Electric Eel Eyeshadow Review

Hi Everyone,

I am in a turquoise zone these days and love everything in this shade.  My toe nails and finger nails are painted in this color, I bought tops in this color, and bracelets and rings, and the last thing that I bought in this shade is an eyeshadow from MAC – Electric Eel.

MAC Electric Eel Eyeshadow Review

Price:

Rs. 680 for the refill.  I think now the prices have been revised to Rs. 720 for 1.5 g. The size like all other MAC refills looks like this when compared to a Rs. 5 coin.

Finish:

This is in a matte finish with absolutely no shine or shimmer to it.

Texture:

The eyeshadow in spite of being matte is very soft and easy to apply and blend. I think that is the beauty of buying high-end brands like MAC.  In spite of being matte, this is so smooth and soft and can be easily picked up with any eyeshadow brush. Its not patchy like some other mattes I have tried from other cheaper brands.

Shade:

Now, let’s come to the shade.  Like I said, I was in my turquoise phase when I picked this one up.  Otherwise, I never wear such bright colors on my eyes. As the name suggests, it is an electric blue color, which is a unique blend of bluish green. It’s vibrant, wild, fun, and zany and looks very nice with neutral browns like Folie (for darker skins) or Soft Brown/Texture (for light to medium skin tones) in the crease.

I used to think it won’t look nice on dusky skin tones, but surprisingly, it looks lovely when used as an outer V color with shimmery shades like Woodwinked. It also works beautifully as an overall lid color for an evening out. However, you have to be careful to keep the rest of your makeup very light and neutral toned because this is so bright. I pair it with peachy blushes and nude lips.

A word of caution: You have to apply it with a light hand and on dark eyeshadow bases. If you use it with light eyeshadow bases like MAC’s Painterly or NYX Milk eyeshadow pencil, you will end up looking like a clown. It retains its natural color with UDPP as a base.

EOTD:  Here’s my first feeble attempt at an EOTD with this shadow.  Do let me know if you like it or not (chewing nails, teeth chattering).

IMBB Rating:

4/5 – deducting a point because I don’t think this shade is for everyone or for beginners. So, not a very versatile shade I would say.

Overall Verdict:

I say summer is the time to have some fun, so go pick it up and see if you can work with this, because if you can you will definitely stand out in the crowd and look like a million bucks.  I am still trying to find just the right way to apply this.

Stay away if you are scared of bright, vibrant colors.

    1. Thanks so much Harman! I wasn’t sure of this color myself, its so electric n all…but when the SA made me try it at the store she said Indians don’t try this color, but it looks fabulous on Indian skin tones and black/brown eyes, and after trying it I think it does! Give it a try 🙂
