MAC Flamingo Lustre Lipstick Review

Skin tone: Fair-light, yellow-neutral undertones

Hello, friends!
Hope you all are enjoying life! I am here to share my new MAC purchase with you all and it is neither impressive nor completely disappointing to me. MAC Flamingo was initially a part of their “All About Orange” limited edition collection, which vanished from the stores as soon it made its debut. Back then, I had only heard of this collection but luckily MAC re-released few shades including this “Flamingo” as a part of their permanent collection and I grabbed it like a hot piece of pie. Blame it on over expectations or my problematic lips, I am not overly excited about this lipstick now. 😛 I had waited a lot for this color to make a debut in my stash, but my expectations shattered when I started to use it. So let’s read more about MAC Flamingo Lustre Lipstick.

Product Description:
Formulated to shade, define and showcase the lips, M·A·C Lipstick is available in hundreds of hues and high-fashion textures. It’s the iconic product that made M·A·C famous.

My Experience with MAC Flamingo Lustre Lipstick:

packaging

The lipstick comes in slick, classy black bullet packaging with a silver metallic case. It is housed in an additional cardboard packaging for ease of travelling and handling. I like the faint vanilla smell of the lipstick which soon subsides from the lips. Overall, I like its pretty classy and flaunt-worthy packaging.

My shade “Flamingo” is defined as light milky bright coral which is true to its description when seen in the tube. But, it adjusts according to our natural lip color when worn. It appears to be a bright milky pink with a subtle hint of coral on my pale skin tone. I see that it comes up as a very milky pink on fair skin tones. It looks really flattering under artificial lights on my skin tone. It comes up demi-sheer on my lips with a lustrous finish, maintaining the translucency in its coverage. Hence, it is not suitable for beauties with pigmented lips.

close up

The texture of the lipstick is quite slippery and lustrous; it glides with a juicy glossy finish on my lips and gives a decent color pay off. However, I am not happy the way it comes up on my lips. It looks slightly streaky and uneven on my lips regardless of wearing it on smooth and hydrated lips or on normal dry lips. Though I see that the uneven finish soon melts into a bit even finish, still this is not what I was expecting. I see that it has the tendency to emphasize dry lip patches and fine lip lines.

name

I have tried it on several occasions and it never gives me smooth and even coverage though I am impressed with its non-sticky, lightweight and glossy finish. But, I don’t feel comfortable wearing it anymore, without smooth color payoff. I like the wet and juicy finish on my lips, though. In fact, the color stays like that for a couple of hours on my lips, and then fades unevenly.

bullet

Oh yes, even though the color is easy to pull off for me and I totally get that lustrous feel on my lips still it could not make it to the finale for me. I don’t think I am impressed enough to get it again; if you are a MAC fan and want to try a demi-sheer luster lipstick, then you may like it. But make sure you wear a lip primer and a lip liner underneath this color. Well, I don’t think you are missing any fun part by skipping this lipstick, we have much better milky corals in the market.

Let’s sum pros and cons:

Pros of MAC Flamingo Lustre Lipstick:

• A bright milky coral lipstick
• Glides like butter on my lips
• Gives a non-sticky, wet and juicy shine to the lips
• Comes up demi-sheer on lips
• Can be intensified with few more swipes
• Does not feel overt drying
• Keeps lips moist and soft
• Decent staying power
• Flaunt-worthy, travel-friendly packaging

Cons of MAC Flamingo Lustre Lipstick:

• The coverage is way sheer for my lips even with multiple swipes
• Staying power could have been better
• Tends to sit into the lip lines and on dry patches
• Tricky for dry as well as pigmented lips
• Pricey for such an average finish and staying power

  1. I know MAC fans would want to kill me for saying this but most of the MAC ranges are over rated and dupable (please don’t kill me!). 😛 Still this one also look great on you, amazing lip swatches. 🙂

  2. I was thinking of buying this lipstick along with others but now I won’t. One of my Bourjois lipstick is similar, at least color-wise but it has better texture. 🙂
