Skin Tone: Medium to Dusky
Hope you are all doing great. Today I am going to review an iconic product from MAC, it is nothing but their old school lip pencil. In this post, I am going to talk about “MAC Half Red Lip Pencil” which I purchased using the IMBB sponsorship scheme. Read on to find out whether this is a hit or miss.
$18 AUD for 3g
A pencil designed for shaping, lining or filling in the lip. Lip Pencils have a smooth, creamy texture that is perfect for outlining lips or colouring them in. They are available in a wide selection of colours that each work well with many different lipstick shades.
My Experience with MAC Half Red Lip Pencil:
Packaging: This lip pencil comes housed in a regular MAC packaging, that is it comes in a black box with product details and the shade name. The lip pencil itself is a regular sharpenable wooden pencil, which has a color-coded strip at the bottom that makes the identification of the actual shade all the more easy. The packaging is pretty sturdy and neat.
Shade: MAC offers more than 20 shades in their lip liner range and they have every possible shade that you can think of in this collection. The shade “Half Red” is described by MAC as a “soft burgundy” which I will call it a deep berry red shade. The shade is very pretty on its own and will look good under pink, red, mauve and berry lipsticks. This is the kind of shade which would probably look pretty across skin tones.
Formula: The formula of the lip pencil is like an old school lip pencil, it is not extremely creamy and it feels a bit drying on the lips. The pigmentation of the lip pencil is amazing, one stroke gives opaque shade pay off. The pencil is semi-creamy and may be a bit difficult to apply if not sharpened properly, but a pencil with a well sharped tip is easy to work with and makes the lining and filling of the lips all the more easy and precise. If the lips are not exfoliated these may tend to cling on dry patches. Since the lip pencil is not super creamy, they do not break even if pressure is applied.
Lasting Power: The product lasted for an entire day almost for eight hours without fading. If the lip pencil is worn alone, it may tend to cling to dry patches at the end of the day, but if it is worn under a lipstick, that may not be the case.
Overall, this is a decent lip liner which pretty much does its job wonderfully well.
Pros of MAC Half Red Lip Pencil:
- Neat packaging.
- Gorgeous berry red shade.
- Matte finish.
- Precise application.
- No feathering or bleeding.
- Good pigmentation.
- Good staying power.
Cons of MAC Half Red Lip Pencil:
- Exfoliated lips is a must.
- May feel a bit drying at the end of the day.
- May cling to dry patches of the lips and application may be a bit unsmooth if the pencil is not sharp and if the lips are not exfoliated.
IMBB Rating: 4/5
