MAC Idyllic Paint Pot Review

Hello IMBBians,

MAC+Idyllic+Paint+Pot+Review

I am back again with yet another review of yet another beautiful product. I had mentioned in my last review on MAC Constructivist Paint Pot that I had picked up two more paint pots along with it, this beauty being one of them. I had actually intended to buy Artifact, but was quite crestfallen when the SA said it was out of stock. But she showed me this color and I found it to be very similar to Artifact, so I bought it.  Read on to know how I found it.

Product Description:

MAC Paint Pots are cream eye shadows, which also doubles up as an eye shadow base. They have a variety of beautiful colors. The one that I am reviewing today is called Idyllic which is a limited edition Paint Pot that came out with MAC Posh Paradise collection. It is described by MAC as a “mid tone copper with bronze frost.”

Price:

1100 INR for 5 gms.

My Experience with MAC Idyllic Paint Pot:

Idyllic like all other paint pots comes housed in a heavy sturdy glass jar with a screw on black cap. The color is midway between burgundy and copper with bronze undertones and a frost finish. It will look amazing with Indian skin tones, especially dusky skin tones due to its rustiness.

MAC Paint Pot 2

This is one of those colors that you can wear simply with a liner to complete the look. It is a burgundy so make sure you do not have any redness in your eyes or in your face as this will highlight it. Women with blue eyes will look amazing with this due to the red undertone in it. This color speaks for itself, so I pair this with a soft lip or cheek. It is very similar to MAC Artifact, which is from the permanent MAC line. Also, Inglot eyeshadow 452 seems to be comparable to this. It’s an apt color for festivities or weddings. This is one of those colors that work better on its own rather than base as it is such a pretty color in itself.

MAC Paint Pot 3

Pigmentation in a single swipe is decent and semi opaque. However, it goes patchy on the lids and takes a little bit of effort to make the application smooth. The texture is very soft and creamy. It dries down to a waterproof and smudge proof finish within seconds of application.

MAC Paint Pot 4

Idyllic like all MAC paint pots is very quick drying. Work quickly using your fingers to apply the product. If you are using a brush, be sure to use a synthetic brush, as a natural hair brush will soak a lot of the product. Idyllic has a stellar staying power. It stays intact for 7-8 hours on my oily, slightly hooded lids, after which there is fading and slight creasing, but not too much. You will need an oil-based makeup remover to remove this completely. The color is pretty vibrant. So, it tends to change the color of eyeshadows you put on top of it, but it does make a great base for eyeshadows as well.

Who can use it?

Idyllic is a beautiful unique color that is great for Indian skin tones, especially dusky skin tones. However, the color is pretty vibrant so one needs to be careful about the rest of their makeup. The pearly finish will accentuate fine lines/wrinkles. Also, as MAC Paint Pots are drying, so it might make dry eyelids or mature eyelids to look parched and unhealthy.

Finally, I will sum up the pros and cons as follows:

Pros of MAC Idyllic Paint Pot:

  • Beautiful rich burgundy color.
  • Works as an excellent base for eyeshadows.
  • Highly pigmented, so a little goes a long way.
  • Dries to a smudge proof and waterproof finish.
  • Lasts for a very long time.
  • Huge amount of product, which will last you a long time.

Cons of MAC Idyllic Paint Pot:

  • It goes a bit patchy on the lids.
  • It is a little difficult to apply due to its quick drying quality.
  • Price is a little steep, although I feel the amount you get for it justifies the price.
  • The pearly finish may accentuate any fine lines or wrinkles.
  • Limited edition!

Do I Recommend MAC Idyllic Paint Pot?

Lovely color and I totally recommend it. However it is limited edition, but MAC seems to re-launch a lot of their popular limited edition products in future collections. Let’s hope they do the same with Idyllic paint pot as well.
