Today I will be reviewing a lip liner from everyone’s favourite, MAC Cosmetics. It’s their lip pencil in the shade Hover. Now I started to love lip liners when I realized they could cover my pigmentation AND make my lipstick last longer AND alter a lippie that’s too light for my skin tone. And so there I was, hunting for a good brown lip liner. My options were between Whirl and Hover, but Whirl was too cool-toned so I bought Hover instead.

My Experience with MAC Lip Pencil Hover:
The shade can be described as a light chestnut brown. It’s perfect because I originally bought it to wear under a pink beige lipstick that looked a tad too light. But it was Estee Lauder, which means I had to find a way to be able to use it. And this brown did the job perfectly. It’s almost like two shades darker than my own lip colour.
The formula is brilliant, as always. The pencil glides comfortably on my lips. It’s not too smooth or creamy which I love. And it doesn’t tug on the lips a lot either. But a good idea is probably to wear some lip balm because if your lips are dry this will cause them to flake further.
I wore the lip liner by itself because hey, the colour is definitely pretty enough to wear by itself. It stayed for about 4 hours before fading and I had maybe a snack in those 4 hours. At some point, I looked into a mirror and I was horrified because the lip liner had faded from the inside and was still there around the outer corners of the lips. Not a look I wanna sport anywhere!
So, touching-up was a must, but again, it’s a lip liner so this much staying-power on its own was good enough for me. It did extend my lipstick wear by 3 hours, though. This is great because I didn’t have to touch up a creamy lipstick for 6 hours straight.
All in all, we’re familiar with MAC’s lip pencil quality. They’re versatile and great quality and I really love that Hover is a shade I couldn’t quite find in any drugstore brand. The browns were always too dark or too cool toned and I couldn’t find that perfect nude brown. But this was it. It’s perfect, and besides their lip pencil in Spice, this is one of my Holy Grail products!
