Hope all of you had a great weekend. You all know how much I love my “brights,” so today, I am reviewing MAC Lipstick in Pink Pigeon, which has been released with the MAC Strength Collection for Spring 2013, currently in stores. MAC says about this collection : “Flex your femininity with a colour collection that’s fearless, elegant and strong. Strike a powerful pose, stand out, redefine the notion of beauty – and do it with strength too irresistible to ignore.”
These are the lipsticks released with the collection – all bold and bright as you may note, and it also includes a black lipstick (Firm Form).
- Party Parrot Bright red pink (Matte) (Repromote).
- Pink Pigeon Bright cleanest pink (Matte) (Repromote).
- Strong Woman Bright violet (Matte).
- Absolute Power Rich red (Matte).
- Firm Form Gilded black with gold pearl (Matte).
This lipstick is a re-promote and was first released with the Iris Apfel Collection for Winter 2011, and that was when I picked up “Party Parrot.” At that time, I also wanted to pick up Pink Pigeon, but it was sold out then. So, this time when I spotted it, I knew I had to have it.
Priced at Rs. 990, it comes in the usual MAC black packaging, and has the signature vanilla fragrance of all MAC lipsticks, which disappears upon application. Pink Pigeon has a matte finish, and is described as “bright cleanest pink.” Each time I think I own the brightest shocking pink lipstick, I come across something brighter! It’s really bright as bright as can be, to describe it literally in one sentence. I don’t think I can compare it to any other bright in my stash, except maybe NYX Matte lipstick Shocking Pink and also Sleek lipstick Amped.
The matte effect is really rich, opaque, pigmented colour, which when swiped onto lips, goes on smoothly and creamy. Doesn’t drag while applying, and only about one or two swipes are needed. The colour just seems to last and last for hours, through a couple of teas and coffees, and even a snack and a meal too.
I would use this lipstick as a statement in itself, using only maybe a black eyeliner and a brow bone highlighter, lots of deep black mascara, maybe even skipping blush, as I don’t want anything to clash with it.
Pros of MAC Lipstick in Pink Pigeon:
- Those of you who love bright, shocking colours, are really going to like this colour.
- Rich and creamy colour in a smooth matte finish.
- Totally opaque in texture.
- Stays put on the lips for hours.
- Doesn’t make lines on the lips show up – rather – covers them nicely.
Cons of MAC Lipstick in Pink Pigeon:
- May not suit all skin tones.
- I don’t have any other negatives to contribute, except that liking this colour is all a matter of personal choice.
Regarding re-purchase, sure, why not, but in the meantime, I have set my sights on MAC lipstick Candy Yum Yum, (a similar-looking bright pink), which I heard is going to be a part of their permanent collection soon.
Have a great week ahead, and do let me know in the comments what you think about this lipstick.
