Mac, Lush and Colorbar Haul

mac, lush and colorbar haulDid I ever mention that I am entrepreneur? I don’t know I should be happy or sad about it.:) Although entrepreneurship gives me freedom to do things my own way but it also makes me forget about the days, nights, weekdays, weekends, holidays etc. . All I need is a laptop and I forget about the number of hours I end up working. Anyways, I am not cribbing about it. All I am trying to tell is that after working endlessly for days and nights, my husband and I decided to shun all the work for a while and go for an evening out.

What more? Since we were going to Select City Walk (Delhi), I was overjoyed with the thought that I would get to check out some beauty and makeup shops. As soon as we reached there, the two of us decided to split. While I wanted to check out makeup stuff, my husband wanted to check out movies and books.

So I stepped into the colorbar store, I pickedΒ  these two beauties there.

Colorbar Spicy Brown Eye Shadow
Colorbar Spicy Brown Eye Shadow
colorbar Brownie Eyeshadow
Colorbar Brownie Eyeshadow

Colorbar Brownie Eyeshadow (17) and Colorbar Spicy Brown(3). Rs 225 each. I wanted some basic browns in my collection. They are very pigmented powder eye shadows. Less is more kinds.Yet to try but very excited. They also have a makeup brush collection. I wanted a blending brush. It was for Rs 600. I let it go.

While wandering around, I noticed that they have Lancome showroom also there. Since I was not sure of any product by Lancome, I decided not to check out the stuff. Any recommendations? Oh by the way, Select City Walk has a new outlet for Chambor Products. Just in case any one of you might want to check it out.

So finally for the very first time, I stepped into the Mac Store. I had no plans of buying anything, I just wanted to check out the Mac Store. I was looking for a good Dewy foundation and enquired about the same. They have makeup artists (MA) there so one of them was at my service. Ahem! πŸ˜‰ .Β  The MA showed me Mineralize Satinfinish foundation. He offered that he would apply the foundation on my face and I can see how it looks. I gladly agreed. He gave me wet tissues to remove my makeup.

But wait!

I checked my face in mirror and to my horror. There was dry patch on my cheek and dry flakes around my nose. πŸ™ I was wearing the same Lakme Nine to Five foundation on my face but today I forgot to apply glycerin around my nose. It was such an embarrasment. πŸ™ I removed my makeup and the MA started applying the foundation on my bare skin.

As soon as the application got over , I looked into the mirror and couldn’t believe how beautiful and glowy my skin looked. In fact the colour (NC 40) was the closest colour to my skin tone. I was both happy and sad.

Happy because I knew that my search for a perfect foundation has ended here. And sad because the brand that I trusted the most (Lakme) totally failed me today. I also realized that Marble shadeΒ  from Lakme was a li’l lighter for my skin tone and shell shade was way too darker.I am never going to use Lakme from now onwards. πŸ™ Although I would review some of the products that I still have from the brand.

I gladly purchased the foundation. Mac Skinfinish SPF 15 Foundation. Price- Rs-1630

While I was till strolling around the shop. The MA completed my makeup with MAC Peachykeen and Mac Coygirl. I must say Peachykeen is a very pretty and natural looking blush. Just the right amount of colour and minimal shimmer.

I also bought Mac Mineralize Skinfinish Natural in Medium Dark. Rs 1340

Then I took the elevator to join my husband on the first floor. Voila! There was a Lush store on my right. Gee!!!Some makeup fairy was surely guiding me today. πŸ˜€

I bought two products from there:

1. Helping Hands hand cream. Rs 680.

Lush Helping Hands
Lush Helping Hands

Ingredients: Chamomile Water (Anthemis nobilis), Linseed Mucilage (Linum usitatissimum), Almond Oil (Prunus dulcis), Glycerine, Stearic Acid, Shea Butter (Butyrospermum parkii), Cetearyl Alcohol, Cocoa Butter (Theobroma cacao), Triethanolamine, Honey (Mel), Lavender Oil (Lavandula hybrida), African Marigold Oil (Tagetes erecta), Perfume, Alkanett Extract (Alkanna tinctoria), *Limonene, *Linalool, Methylparaben, Propylparaben.

Their Smitten Hand Cream( Rs 610) is also good. It’s on the lighter side of moisturization.Β  But since, I have normal to dry skin, I took their Helping hands Cream.

2. Angels on Bare SKin. Rs 870 for 150 gm. It is a cleanser + exfoliator.

Lush Angels on Bare Skin
Lush Angels on Bare Skin

Ground Almonds (Prunus dulcis), Glycerine, Kaolin, Water (Aqua),Lavender Oil (Lavandula hybrida), Rose Absolute (Rosa centifolia), Lavender Flowers Lavandula hybrida), *Limonene, *Linalool, Perfume.

They gave me the product in the 150 gm airtight jar. I guess they have incorporated the jar thing keeping the customer reviews in mind.

I also checked out their Coalface. The SA said that it is mainly for blemishes. So I let it go. We would wait for Palak’s review on this.

I would say Lush is worth trying. It is expensive but the product is used in such less quantity that the price would never hurt you. Also, I liked the fact that the products are lightly scented. I end up having issues with products because of their heavy scents.

A tip to shop at LUSH would be that you make sure that you ask enough question from the SA and test the stuff before buying. You might end up being with an incompetant SA and would end up buying the wrong product. It’s not worth it!

Then comes the BEST part.

My husband found me shopping in the Lush Shop and he paid the bill. πŸ˜› The he suddenly looked at me and asked me what had I put on my face? He said I was glowing and there was a pretty blush on my face. Hurray! the day was made. πŸ™‚

He also gifted me a whole lot of books on beauty and makeup. He ended up shopping for me in the bookshop instead.:)

Another thing. We reached home after 4 hours and I checked my face. There wasn’t a single dry patch on my face even though prior moisturization was not done. My foundation and blush was intact. My skin looked perfect. Now I know why people swear by Mac. πŸ™‚ Mac is worth an investment but becoming a Mac Fanatic might hurt a bit. By the way, Delhi’s Select City Walk’s Mac store is the highest selling store in India. I ended up getting ‘out of stock’ response for some of their products. Also, since you would be investing soΒ  much in a single product it is best that you read a review first and then shop. The attendants could be pushy and youΒ  might end up spending more than it is required. Just say no and be firm. Another thing, ask the Mac makeup artist to do the full foundation/makeup on your face, they would be glad to help. Don’t buy any stuff with only wrist or fingertips testing. πŸ™‚

Happy Shopping!

So beauties, what do you say?

  1. Hey! Nice shopping trip! πŸ˜€

Your tips on MAC & Lush are both very good. I have used MAC once before, for my wedding. And frankly, u r just tempting me sorely to go try something frm their line.. LOL..

Lush sounds nice with all its exotic things, but a little known fact about me is that I make a lot of skin care scrubs, lotions & creams at home. I know a lady who supplies me with exotic ingredients like shea butter, beeswax & all, and the rest I rustle up at home to make wht i need. & its way cheaper…

Looking forward to reading your review!

  2. Hey Tanveer,
I loved this shopping trip especially. πŸ™‚ Yes, I guess atleast in terms of base makeup I guess I am going to shun every other brand now. I still can’t believe there could be a foundation and powder that would be such a close match to my skin tone.

Actually, I also keep trying products at home but not as extensive as you do. πŸ™‚ Lush I felt could be tricky if you end up buying a wrong product. Most of their products are above 500 and it would pinch if end up buying wrong stuff.

I would soon be reviewing the stuff. I am just so excited. πŸ™‚ Any idea where Palak is? Her blog seems to be missing…

  3. hey Rati !!
yeah girl , em still alive !

yes , my blog was deletd mysteriously !even I realised it today morning . I dont know what happened .

buh thanks for being so considerate , makes me feel loved in this blogging world πŸ™‚
will try to fix the problem soon πŸ™‚

  4. oh no your blog is back. I just left a comment there…And of course, the youngest ones are the most pampered ones. You better stay around. πŸ™‚

  5. OMG !! Rati U had a ball !! dun yu ??
thats a well deserved haul πŸ™‚
em feeling like running to ctywalk and get me some stuff !!

I have heard satinfinish gives a b’ful dewy finish , buh its also said that it makes yer skin look oily afta few hours . Is it true ? do u have oily skin ??

  6. Yes I had a ball. Gee! πŸ™‚ Ha ha! I resisted hard not stepping into Lancome’s store because I had no idea about the specific products.

No Palak, I have normal to dry skin and satin finish is not for oily skin, for sure. My skin was soft and supple without any moisturisers beneath the foundation. So if the foundation can keep a normal to dry skin supple for 4 hours at a go, it surely has some oils/ moisturisers in it that are doing the magic. The dewy finish was beautiful. I even noticed a lot of people esp women checking out my face while I was roaming around. πŸ˜€

Just go to the Mac store and let the make artists help you in selecting the best stuff. They have one outlet in Rajouri Garden as well.

Here’s the address: MΒ·AΒ·C EROS MALL

yes, it aint for oily skin , thats wot I heard . thats why I didnt cave in to buy that at my first visit to MAC
em planning to get studio fix powder foundie or maybe SF liquid πŸ™‚

  8. Lol! I was the one who was telling Tanveer the other day i that I would never buy Mac and now I am the one who is tempting people to buy Mac now. πŸ™‚

Also try Mac Mineralize Skinfinish. They have beautiful texture and a very sheer texture. A great wearable stuff to wear during the day.

Now I sound like promoting the brand. lol!

  9. oh girl , U are’nt . em so happy yu find yer HG
do tell us hw u find MSF , and yeah that LUSH stuff looks so inviting..em specially waiting for angels on bare skin review πŸ™‚ , more so colorbar eyeshades are gorgeous everyday neutrls .

    good night
    xx

  10. I would be reviewing all these stuff soon. I am so excited myself. πŸ™‚

Yes, the eye shades are very pretty. Have been thinking long how would I use them for a daily look. I am so lazy at doing eye makeup that I keep thinking of the easiest eye makeup things that one can do. Let’s see what I do with these. πŸ™‚

  11. Hey nice haul!! Funny when yr hubby asked u what u had put on yr face πŸ˜€ Great that u found perfect fits at Mac. The lush stuff look really good..I almost bought that hand cream once before but I had to control myself coz I’d already gone above my budget in other stores in the mall..hehe..
Do let us know how u find the Lush n Colorbar products
    β™₯XXβ™₯

  12. Lol! I know. πŸ˜€ As soon as he said this, I confirmed whether it is looking good or bad? He said, of course it is looking good.

It was such a transformation that that I myself knew it. I guess I should have taken pics of before and after.

Will let you know about the products once I have used them enough to be able to talk about them. πŸ™‚

  13. hey it looks like palak stays somewhere near rajouri! mac rajouri is loaded and not crowded at all, so the attendants there shower you with all their attention. no wonder i like going there as opposed to mac citywalk. mac citywalk in my opinion, is too small and crowded. plus the smell there is overpowering! makes me sneeze! the attendants are a wee bit rude, if you know what i mean? they always seem to run after the fat-cats who want to buy loads of makeup. not really their fault, actually! i went there a week ago and asked an attendant to get me their “twig” shade of lipstick (i had chosen the colour a long time back, but the rajouri outlet was out of stock). the attendant rummaged around a bit to show that she was looking for it then completely ignored me and turned her attention towards another customer! how rude is that? i asked her once again (loudly, this time), at which she promptly ignored me once more! god, i really should have lodged an official complaint with the store manager!

  14. Rajouri is too far off from my place so I don’t go there. πŸ™ I have felt the women at MAC Select City walk are rude. I don’t give a heed to them, though. πŸ˜› You should have really given her back. I mean you are a customer so what if you go to buy a single lipstick. The first time I went there, my makeup artist was a male who was nice and sweet but the woman was after my life to buy this cream and that cream. I strictly said no and since then she doesn’t attend me. Although if required, I would make sure that she gives me stuff I want. You gotta get firm, babes. πŸ™‚

  15. I swear by MAC Studio Fix. Its perfect for my blemished face. Once you try MAC foundation, you’ll never go back. Hurts the wallet quite a bit, though! LOL

  16. Hi Rati,

I am a first time reader of your site and to be frank..I am absloutely in love with your way of writing and reviewing.

My addiction to makeup is recent and am yet to splurge on the right products. I do have some things, which are used ocassionally though.

Thank you so much for the tips regarding MAC foundation and the Mineralize Skin Finish. Would definitely ask for a face trial before I buy. I am not too sure if the shop in Blr has a makeup artist like in Saket.
Will surely let ya know once I buy πŸ™‚

  17. Aww! that’s so sweet of you to say that. MAC foundations especially come in hige range of shades and skin types. They are expensive so I suggest that if you like sometimething, take a face trial of it, come back read some reviews on it and buy only when your are sure of it. The products are freaky expensive, it doesn’t make sense to buy wrong stuff and then regreat later.

Although Mac Skinfinish Natural is a no brainer. I have hardly read any bad review about it. Just that they don’t give a puff or brush or mirror with it. It’s kinda irritating to carry a brush or puff along with a pressed powder.

Welcome aboard and keep visiting. πŸ™‚

    1. I agree with what Rati said. Mac products are to be bought diligently as the products are good & expensive and if the right product for your skin tone and personality is bought it has the ability to make you look like a diva. I personally would recommend Studio fix & eye makeup remover(must have). Eye make remover I personally use for removing my entire makeup.Kin finish natural powder(pls. select your shade carefully else you will feel pulled down. Mac eyeshadows are wonderful and gives very good effect even if you wear is all thru the day. I do not like their mascaras.

      1. I love my skin finish Natural. I kind of went through the phase where I was a little confused about whether I was liking it or not but seriously I just love them . They blend into the skin like a dream and I am so much in awe everytime I ue them.

have used only one mascara from MAC – Zoom lash. I like it a lot. πŸ™‚

Studiofix is on my list. πŸ™‚

  18. Hi!

I just loved the way you described your shopping experience here.

The most catchy paragraph was where you described your experience at MAC since i am complete make up geek and love MAC products. Did you know that you could get professional make up done by one of the make up artists at a MAC store by appointment and you just need to buy products worth 3500 (i think!) and ur make up is free. I got my make up done 3 times from their Rajouri store in Delhi from 2 different make up artists over there can’t remember their names the first time i got it done from a girl who was good but the second and the third time i got it done from a guy he is amazing and i would highly recommend that you go and try.

That was a little bit about my experience at MAC.

I love the Lush moisturisers that u’ve mentioned about too.

  19. girlie! You are going to make me go bankrupt!! πŸ™ πŸ™‚ discovered your blog only a week ago and you’ve got a fan in me already! Although my home town’s delhi, i reside in pune and have no clue whr i can find color bar! Although a dedicated mac counter opened here around last year so after reading this article i’m gonna chk it out. I’ve owned lots of make up before but hardly used much of it. Now i’m trying to re build my basic make up kit now. Any ideas what i must necessarily have?

  20. Thank you for the review dear and also for letting us know how to deal with the SA at Mac stores. I was looking forward to buying the Lakme foundation, thanks to your review, i would be careful.
