MAC Mineralize Reset and Revive Charcoal Mask Review

Hey lovely ladies,

I know it’s been a while since I was on IMBB. For all the readers, who are moms, will probably know why. The kids have school holidays and I was busy planning our family vacation. Now that I am back from vacation – relaxed (debatable), rejuvenated, tanned and maxed out on shopping – let me start with some reviews again. Today’s review is from a new collection introduced by MAC into their skincare line – MAC Mineralize Charcoal line. They have a Charcoal Charged Water and this Charcoal Mask. The review is on the Charcoal Mask.

My Experience with MAC Mineralize Reset and Revive Charcoal Mask:

Even though I use MAC cosmetics, with some of their products being absolute staples for me – like the MAC eyebrow pencil in Spiked and the MAC Brush 239; I have never really delved into their skincare line. I have checked out their skincare products from time to time and have been on the verge of buying – but never really bit the bullet. The only skincare product I’ve purchased is probably MAC Fix Plus, but that is a product which is as much a makeup product, as it is skincare.

However, recently, this new product from the MAC Mineralize line caught my eye and I thought – why not! Suddenly, I am on a mask spree. I am trying anything and everything to make up the damage that I have done to my skin in the last couple of months with some lousy eating, sleeping and skincare (or lack of it) habits.

Packaging: The mask comes packaged in a charcoal grey tube with a flip top from which the product can be easily dispensed out. The tube allows sufficient control on the amount of product being dispensed. The tube comes packaged in a white cardboard packaging – typical to the MAC skincare line. All in all, fuss free, simple aesthetics.

Texture: The product is quite thick in texture and yet spreads extremely easily, which was quite surprising to me. With kaolin and bentonite, both clays – part of the ingredient list, I kind of expected it to be difficult to spread like any other clay mask. Strangely, it wasn’t. So, it was easy to spread an even thin layer all over your face and it was equally easy to take it off with some tepid water. It did not stick excessively to the skin or get sticky/muddy.

Application: Ensure you apply it on freshly cleaned, dry skin. Spread an even thin layer all over – avoiding the eyes. Keep it on for about 10 minutes – till it dries. And then take it off with some warm/tepid water. You need not rub your skin vigorously. It comes off fairly easily. One it is off, dry your face and follow up with your skincare – serum/moisturizer/etc.

Effect: As the mask dries off on your skin, the skin feels kind of tight. However, once you take it off, the skin feels fairly normal – meaning, there is no feeling of tightness, dryness or stretchiness. The skin is free of any excess oil without feeling stripped of all moisture. Your pores “appear” smaller – but this is transient. It will not have any lasting effects on the size of your pores. Regular use of the product should help control formation of blackheads and keep your skin clear, but a lot will also depend on what else is part of your skin care routine. The skin feels clear and smoother.

Do I like it? Do I Love it? Not really. I think it is one of the things which I will incorporate into my skincare routine along with a hydrating mask – as a form of maintenance, but it may not be something which would show “earth-shattering” or even drastic results.

Fragrance: There is a slight sweet fragrance but nothing too discernible unless you put your nose to it.

Pros of MAC Mineralize Reset and Revive Charcoal Mask:

  • Clearer pores.
  • Skin feels a lot smoother.
  • Does not make your skin dry or irritated.
  • Easy to apply.
  • Did not cause breakouts.
  • Regular use – 2-3 times a week (as suggested by the brand) should keep blackheads in check.
  • Fuss-free packaging.

Cons of MAC Mineralize Reset and Revive Charcoal Mask:

  • Nothing at all.

IMBB Rating:

4.25/5

I have used clay mask in the past and sometimes, they can be a pain to apply/take off, which kind of deters me from reaching for them. However, with this one, I felt it did a fairly good job and yet was easy to apply and easy to remove.

  1. Hi KK,
Nice to see skincare review by you after long time. I had DE vit c serum on your reco during my trip to US and totally love it. But as I know it’s steep price and now if I have to import again, it’s too much. Did you find any other new serum which is at least any where near to it’s efficacy.?

    1. Hey! Sorry, i was travelling and seem to have missed this note. I’m glad you enjoyed the product recommended by me. Unfortunately, i still don’t have an alternative for this. I am on my third bottle of DE C Firma and every time i have to buy a new one – its a real struggle. The price is just so difficult to swallow. What works for DE is that the product is good and the packaging is excellent – keeping the product stable for way longer than any other brand’s offering.

  2. Thanks for the response KK. Don’t need to be sorry. I was hoping u might have found something 😐. You are so right on product longevity. Let me see when it gets over and try to find a friend who can bring me from abroad
