MAC Paint Pot Soft Ochre

MAC Soft Ochre Paint Pot : “ A highly pigmented eye colour that goes on creamy, but dries to an intense vibrant finish. Long-wearing, colour-fast. Creates seamless coverage without weight or caking. Blends smoothly over the lids. Cream-based, can be mixed with MAC shadows and liners. “

MAC Paint Pots in India have become an all-time favourite base for eyeshadows, as we don’t have many other brands selling eyeshadow primers. Before discovering MAC Paint Pot in Soft Ochre, I used to use gel foundation, followed by a patting of pressed powder on my eyelids. But now that I have discovered (and fallen in love with) MAC Paint Pot in Soft Ochre, I don’t need to use anything else as an eyeshadow base. Although MAC has a separate Prep + Prime Eyes, I found that to be a little oily while testing it, so after reading so much about using the Paint Pots as eyeshadow bases, I decided to settle for one of these. Paint Pots are really crème eyeshadows. They have at least 8 to 10 shades in India. They can be worn alone or layered under powder eyeshadow, and they give intense, seamless coverage that won’t crease or fade, even after hours and hours.

The favourite shades that are used as eyeshadow bases are : Soft Ochre (a yellow beige colour with cream finish, no frost at all), and Painterly (nude beige with cream finish again). However, do check out shades like Bare Study (soft beige with gold pearl – frost), Rubenesque (golden peach with gold pearl – frost) and Indianwood (metallic antique bronze – frost), to add that even extra pop to your eyeshadows by giving a frost finish and doubling up as a under-brow highlighter as well!

MAC Paint Pot Soft Ochre

I apply Soft Ochre with my ring finger all over my eyelids right upto the brow bone, even in the corners of the eyes near the bridge of the nose. Blending needs to be done real quickly, as it sets within a few seconds. Once it sets, it sets well and proper. Some of you may find this funny, but I have started using it as a ‘nose base’; yes, you read right, a nose base, it controls the oil on my nose when applied beneath foundation (in winter) and powder foundation (in summer)!! Oily-skinners on IMBB, are you reading this? These days I have become quite averse to applying pencil eyeliners, in order to prevent pulling and tightlining my eyes, so using this Paint Pot as an eyeshadow base, also helps to avoid the pulling and stretching the skin which I used to do when applying gel foundation and pressed powder as an eyeshadow base. So far, I have never used a brush to apply this, I prefer applying this with my ring finger.

Pros :

  • A cream-to-powder finish eyeshadow from MAC, that can be used as a base, on its own, or layered under other powder eyeshadows or eyeliners.
  • It really pops the colour(s) of your eyeshadow(s) and makes them more vibrant.
  • The frost-finish shades can add that extra ‘oomph’ to your eyeshadows and can double up as a brow-bone highlighter as well.
  • Very easy to apply with finger tips.
  • Doesn’t fade or crease for hours on end.
  • Takes care of any oiliness in the crease area.
  • Even after frequent use, it looks as if it’s going to last quite a long time.
  • I really like the cute, round glass pot.

Cons :

  • This may not be a con, but you have to blend it real quick as it sets within a few seconds.
  • Doesn’t come with any applicator.

This would get a  :star: :star: :star: :star: :star: pat on the back from me, I have never seen/used anything quite like it.
I will surely re-purchase this one, and in fact, am looking forward to getting Bare Study for myself very soon.
(I am wearing Orly nail polish in Passion Fruit in the swatch photos).

  5. great review Sabrina 🙂 I got introduced to MAC paint Pots on IMBB itself and was contemplating to get myself one in PAINTERLY (thanks to Rati), now you have come with raving reviews on the paint pot as well!!! 😀 i am so getting myself one… This’ll be my first purchase from MAC i guess 😀
but how do i decide which color should i go for? Ochre or Painterly or something else? ?:) ?:) ?:) ?:) ?:)

  6. depends on you skin color Suma.
If you fair then go for painterly or soft ochre…..if you medium skin toned or have dark circles then go for darker ones like groundwork or Indianwood. Also what shadows you will be wearing on top.
also u can decide if you want which finish- creamy, satiny, matte or slight shimmer.
MAC MUA are helpful with these. You can try them on and find which one u like.

  7. Nice article, Sabrina   I agree about every single thing :victory2:
The paintpots are great bases and do an excellent work at colour-popping.

  8. Welcome, Priti. I too was thinking of using it for under eye coverage, I haven’t done so as yet, I guess it would be good but one would have to be real quick in blending the whole area before the Paint Pot sets.
