MAC Prep & Prime BB Cream SPF 35 Review

MAC Prep & Prime BB Cream SPF 35

Hi Dolls,

Primers have become an important factor of our daily makeup routine. It smoothes out fine lines and conceal any other imperfections. I never used primer before until very recently but now am so used to it that it has become my skin’s elixir. It is a part of my daily routine and if you don’t use primers I highly recommend that you start now!!

Now there are a number of primers in the market that is available from high end brands to medium range products. So when I went looking for the perfect primer I made this amazing discovery “Prep & Prime BB Cream SPF 35” by M.A.C.
I reckon I got super lucky when I found this magic tube. This was a not just a wonderful primer but also a Beauty Balm cream. Now for all those who don’t know what a Beauty Balms are they are this super multitasking product that does everything for your skin, from moisturizing, to sun protection, to hiding imperfection. So double bonus for me. Yay!!

My main problem with primers and BB cream alike is that I breakout often and my initial excitement over these products die down very quickly too. So when choosing any new base product I tend to be very careful.

The product comes in a tube form for oily skin (40 ML for Rs 2100) and compact form for dry skin. Since my skin has a mind of its own I went for the oily one in Medium Dark. The formula used in the product is rich and creamy. Unlike other primers this is not very tinted, it is very sheer, a little shimmery and very light product. The color is beige with a little pinkish hint to it and perfect for our skin tones.
The primer blends in very well with my skin tone and I use a sponge and my fingers for blending. I use my M.A.C Foundation (NC40) on it with a brush and I am ready for the day (as you can see in my picture below). I also use a compact (M.A.C Studio Fix) for light touch ups during the day. The best part about this product is that you only need a small about for your entire face and you’re done for the day. The fact that it is so light it helps my make to stay in place without me having to worry. The SPF is the best part about the product. I would say this is my miracle cream. It hides my pigmentation very well and keeps my skin shiny and moisturized during the whole day.

For anyone with dark spots, mild acne and fine lines I reckon this tube would do just fine. But for those who have severe acne and breakouts I do not recommend this product because the coverage is medium. Anyone blessed with clear skin can wear this product on its own. I have been using this product daily and it is perfect for trips to the mall or movie dates. And the fact that it is travel friendly also helps.

It has a nice flowery fruity scent to it as well. I think whenever I buy a product that is one of the first things I do. I smell before I put it on!! And also get the weird eye from the shop assistant.

The only major flaw of this product is the shade range. They do not have too many shades in this range (just 9) which is a little disappointing. Also like I said it gives medium to light coverage, so for all those seeking something heavier I do not recommend this product at all. Another problem is breakouts, I have a colleague who used the same product and had breakouts within a week. She told me it could be due to the presence of silicon in the product. So I recommend you do a trial run before you buy this product.

All in all I think this is another fabulous product by MAC.

Pros of MAC Prep & Prime BB Cream SPF 35

Extremely light and sheer so I don’t feel like I have a lot on my face. Keeps your friends guessing if your wearing makeup or not.
A small quantity is enough hence no wastage.
SPF is a bonus. Boo to the sun!!
Does not get too oily or greasy during the day.
The slight smell of the product is quite delicious. I try not to taste it!!
Travel friendly.

Cons of MAC Prep & Prime BB Cream SPF 35

Shade range is a major factor.
Can lead to breakouts, so I recommend you go on a trial first before buying it.
Medium Coverage, so for all those looking for something heavier this product is not meant for you.

  1. aww u look so pwetty *_*
My friend who has been using this for the past few months keeps on raving about it and does look so darn natural on her. Still not sure if I’d be willing to spend so much on a BB cream though!

  2. You’re so cute!! *puchhi* I have this, my dad got it from US. I have only used it once, since it broke me out so badly *cry* So people getting this should definitely try a sample or at the store. Great review hun!

  3. Extremely good review dear… Welcome to IMBB… Whats the ingredient list… Does it have silicones in it… I usually use clarins beauty flash balm if I ever wear a primer coz I cannot handle the silicony feel…
