MAC Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolour Caviar Review

Today’s review is a bit eclectic and for the girls who are a bit on the daring side. I know there aren’t too many women fascinated with eccentric colors, but for all you ladies who are, I have got your back! Today, I will be reviewing the shade Caviar from MAC Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolour range. The brand’s liquid lipsticks are famous and this color just adds to that.

My Experience with MAC Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolour Caviar:

The packaging is pretty simple. It’s inspired by their traditional MAC lipstick bullets with the bottom half being transparent so that you can see the shade and the product left inside. The petal shaped applicator makes it easy to evenly apply the product even alongside the edges. Since I have pigmented lips, I really have to cover up the darkness with a lip liner but with this shade and the applicator being so precise, I didn’t have to.

Caviar is a midnight black shade; there is no better way to explain it. Yes, you read that right; it’s a black lipstick. I was super hesitant to buy it initially, but I figured that with my excessive makeup collection, it was high time I added something that I didn’t already have a version of. Nothing screams ‘different’ like a black lipstick, right?

I bought this in Sri Lanka and I don’t think it’s available in stores in Mumbai, but it’s definitely a part of their permanent range and can be found online on their website.

The pigmentation of this lipstick is simply amazing. You don’t need more than one layer for it to be completely opaque. Having said that, if you add more than one layer it tends to get cakey. The texture feels a bit clumpier than the other retro mattes I’ve tried from MAC, but it doesn’t interfere too much during application. I am not sure if this was a problem with the tube I had or it applies to the formula of the shade itself.

The shade stays on for about 6 hours before fading away a little. Even after fading, however, you can’t see the real lip color underneath. Though, after about 10 hours and maybe two full meals, it fades in a patchier manner, which I hate. It does settle into the fine lines but because of the intense color, you can’t really tell until it’s extremely faded.

Summary: I love this shade! And, the formula is good too but compared to the other retro matte shades, this one lacks a little bit of quality. I am assuming it’s because of the intense black shade. But, nonetheless, I may not wear this unless I am feeling a little extra bold.
