Hope you are having a wonderful weekend. I did a mini haul at MAC recently to get my hands on my all time favourite lip shades and the Pro Longwear Concealer. The SA told that MAC recently made a summer release of matte liquid lipsticks from the MAC Transformed Collection – the Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolours. These are beautiful liquid lipsticks that set to a velvety matte finish and come in a wide variety of 31 shades to choose from for every skin tone. In this review, I’m talking about a particular shade, Slipper Orchid. Read on to know further.

Packaging:
The Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolour comes with the outer packaging similar to the regular MAC lipsticks but have a different, transparent primary packaging. I actually quite like the packaging because it makes it super easy to locate the shades when you have more than one of these.

The packaging is sturdy and the cap screws on tightly, making the bottle leak-proof as well. This lipstick comes with a flocked applicator that tapers at the tip. The tapered tip makes it really easy to apply the product with precision without the help of a lip brush.

My Experience with MAC Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolour Slipper Orchid:

The lipstick has a slightly thick mousse-like consistency and is highly pigmented. If you sniff the wand closely, you can smell MAC’s signature faint vanilla fragrance, but on the lips, you can hardly detect it. It sets to a matte finish pretty fast, so if you need to correct something, you need to do it quick.

This shade is described by MAC as a “bright plum”. I feel it’s more of a hot pink that’s slightly on the fuchsia side. It’s not as bright as MAC Candy Yum Yum, though. It’s perhaps similar to MAC Flat Out Fabulous from the permanent collection. It might not be an everyday shade but I love it.

Also, it is a pigmented shade that needs only one or two swipes. It works so well. With the velvety finish, these retro matte lipsticks do need a good prep in order to look decent. Hence, prior exfoliation is a must. It doesn’t bleed whatsoever and stays intact for good 7-8 hours. However, it does settle into the fine lines, which makes the lips look very dull by the end of the day.

I feel the stain is very hard to remove from the lips. You need an oil-based makeup remover to remove it properly. I use MAC Cleanse Off Oil and it takes a few seconds to remove the color. Overall, it is one of my favourite plum lipstick shades and it looks lovely on my skin tone.

I’m enjoying my new MAC Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolour Slipper Orchid. This will undoubtedly be a summer favourite of mine.
