MAC Sumptuous Olive Eyeshadow Review, Swatch

MAC Sumptuous Olive Eyeshadow :Β Hi Friends, Today I am going to review one of the greens I have in my eyeshadow collection. It is MAC Sumptuous Olive! Its got 1.3g and cost me $11 (Rs 680) since it’s a refill pan.

On MAC’s website, this eyeshadow is described as Khaki with pearl. It is in family of Veluxe Pearl eye shadows. So duh! There has to be some pearl in it! Ok, jokes aside, I love this dirty green color. I would describe is a shade of military green that is kind of like khakhi. It is goldenish-muddy-olive green. It suits fair-medium to darker skin tones very well and goes well with night time and daytime looks depending upon the extent of intensity. You can pair it with heavy wedding kind of clothes or even with casual wear. Plus since its very finely milled with gold, it goes on smooth and doesn’t crease under a primer and stays on for long hours – about 6+ hours. Then it does fade away, which is kind of okay. It has great pigmentation, just a light sweep can pack on nice layer. You can go as heavy as you want or you can keep it just light and right!

Its pretty in pan, but will still appear to be grey-green-shiny-muddy color.

This shade is in the family of greens, so goes well with pinks, goldens, browns and creams. So it is very versatile! My favorite way of pairing it is with either another green or some dark brown in the end. Then black eyeliner and masacara completes the look!

See, you can feel the dirty muddy olive green, yet golden kind of dominates a bit.

This is how it looks with another green eyeshadow! Sumptuous Olive is on the bottom part.

Now lets summarize and see what pros and cons are!

Pros

1) Versatile eyeshadow, no fallout, infact sticks to the brush! Or eyelid well.
2) Ease of use, glides on easily, great pigmentation
3) Good Staying Power – abt 6+ hours, if used over a base or primer.

Cons

1) It is mostly golden, with a slight olive green in backgrown – it’s kind of like duochrome. So if you are looking for more green, this may not be your choice.
2) I have found it little hard to blend silky shadows (versus matt shadows), but with slightly more efforts, this can be resolved.

After all, my recommendation is buy it if you love it. Veluxe Pearl eye shadows do not disappoint and are quite easy to use and duochrome effect works well if you want to use just 1 eyeshadow and make it look that you have used two!

So I hope you liked the review for MAC Sumptuous Olive!

  1. Nia i am sucker for khaki shades. i never purchased this one coz i have a khaki one from chanel. Actually both are not similar .. this has a golden mixed with it .. guess this needs to come in my palette. i can see you in the mirror :shying:

          1. I have two khakis..a Chanel one that looks kind of like this but is not really like this at all..and an Inglot Khaki that I am pretty sure is quite similar. I love khakis…is like Rati’s brown craze..I am khaki crazy πŸ˜€ Hubby told me last week that it is a strange colour eyeshadow 😐 😐

            1. Yeah this is really nice shade…..I have worn it today and paired it with Swiss Choclate in the crease, with Sumptuous Olive all over the eye-lid.

I like to think of natural pairing…..(hmm…think of olive branch)…lol…

          2. Yeah I saw myself after I took the photo……it was cute though…..and I was squatting on floor aaram se….trying to take best shots.

      1. After Rati’s review I mean.. its also khakhi with a little gold shimmer… got it from bed bath and beyond… not a known brand but quite good yaa…

  2. Lovely colour, looks different on the skin to the pan…you really have a nice collection of MAC eyeshadows πŸ™‚

    1. Takes forever to make a palette whole!, but I usually think a lot, try to go to versatile eye shadows and try to pick in earth tones a lot….so I can use them more!

  3. I loved this shade so much but it ws not in stock when I wanted to buy it. It matches well with my green contacts! Which MAC eyeshadow do you pair it with?

    1. I like to pair it with browns mostly, wood-winked sometimes or other green Jealousy Wakes, which will be posted soon…the review is ready. I think its pretty versatile….can go with pinks too!

    1. I have worn it today as all-over eyelid and with Swiss Choclate in the crease….

      I was thinking of Olive branch……. πŸ˜‰

      1. I mostly wear khaki on its own. may be cream e/d on the inner corners , liner, and mascara. πŸ™‚ bt yeah browns would be the natural pick with this. πŸ™‚

        1. Somehow I dont like the idea of highlighting inner corner of eyes….most of the time looks weird….unless its for photo effects.

But most of my eye shadows are Veluxe Pearl, so thoda bahot shimmery effect ho hi jata hai…

          1. yeah shimmery ones dont look nice for day time especially bt i kinda stick with matte shadows or the chromagraphic pencil. It is there bt nt there kinds. πŸ™‚

  4. rati…1 urgent query..nothing related to makeup and beauty..actually ma best frnd z leaving for banglore d day after tmrw..so m making a powerpoint pp fr her..can u plz suggest me sme sweet friendship song…a bit girly girly… :thanks:
