Should I worry about the fact that even the makeup product I pick up is XL? 🙁 In this post, I am going to review Make Up For Ever Refillable Makeup System Palette XL Empty Trio Palette.
A collection of sleek, empty, refillable face color palettes for creating custom looks. These palettes are made to be used with the Artist Face Color Highlight, Sculpt and Blush Powders, a refillable range of pressed face powders in highlight, sculpt, and blush shades that allows you to customize your palette. Choose your palette size, then customize to your needs by mixing and matching your favorite shades.
Artist Face Color’s unique formula features atomized pigments, which provide intense color payoff while blending and diffusing for a natural result. The super-fine powder melts into skin while also seamlessly layering for a natural, long-lasting finish. Available in matte, shimmer, and pearl finishes across 34 shades, Artist Face Color provides endless ways to enhance and define your features for your desired result. Artist Face Color is a refillable palette system. Your highlight, sculpt and blush powder will come as a refill. Be sure to also add a palette to your cart to hold your new powders.
$2/THB 200 about INR 400 (The International pricing is so absurd!!)
The individual empty palette comes packaged in a cardboard outer casing – fairly standard for MUFE.
My Experience with Make Up For Ever Refillable Makeup System Palette XL Empty Trio Palette:
The MUFE Refillable MakeUp System is distinctly different from their metal palettes in size. This has been specifically designed for the Face Artist Colours. This refillable system palettes come in 3 sizes – Mono, Duo and Trio. All 3 are priced the same. The three sizes clearly indicate the number of face colored pans that you can fit into these palettes. So, a mono is for a single face colour – highlighter, blush or sculpting powder. Duo is for 2 of these. And the XL sized trio is for 3 such pans to fit in. You have the choice of choosing 3 highlighter or 3 blushes, etc or a mix of each, as I have done.
Design: The palette is a good quality metal palette. Painted black with the Make Up For Ever logo and branding on it. A soft latch allows you to open the palette easily when you gently press it. You do not need to pull the metal lid apart with pressure – like some over-enthusiastic people have been known to do – till they saw the latch!! 😉 The palette has a nice, good quality, distortion-free mirror. The base has the magnet – an extremely strong one which ensures that things don’t move around at all. I like how compact it is with no wasted space on borders and decorations, etc.
Travel: The palette is quite sturdy and would lend itself comfortably to travel. Despite the size of the pans, I do not foresee an issue with product damage during travel.
Variety: When you have 34 options, one may end up with more than 3 shades. The obvious question is how easy would it be to swap the shades inside. For this purpose, MUFE has given a minute gap over the right most shade in the palette, to allow you to take the pan out and replace as required.
Uniqueness: Though the product is categorically designed for the Artist Face Colours, it can be easily used to store or travel with a set of eyeshadows or like I have shown in the pics, a blush and a handful of shadows. The shadows I have used in the pic are standard sized – same as any MAC, Make Up Geek, Colourpop, Coloured Raine eyeshadow. Not sure of how many MUFE shadow pans could be accommodated because they are substantially larger and I do not have any of those.
Observations and Critique:
Overall, I thought it is a really good product but there are was one concern/observation that I wanted to point out. My one concern was that if you have more than one of these palettes, you will need to open the palette, there is no way to distinguish/identify one form the other. This could be irritating for a makeup artist, but then, I doubt that a professional MUA would buy one of these refill palettes. They would probably need a greater variety of blush shades and tones and would probably opt for one of their bigger metal palettes instead. Would a clear cover have helped? Yes, but then, it might have compromised on durability. Also, a clear top means no mirror inside. And from a consumer perspective, the fact that there is a mirror in the palette does make a lot of difference. One can always stick on a label on flip side of this with a sloth tape. Being a metal palette – it will not get spoilt.
Pros of Make Up For Ever Refillable Makeup System Palette XL Empty Trio Palette:
- Compact and yet durable.
- Aesthetically appealing.
- Has a good quality, full-sized mirror.
- Extremely easy to use in terms of popping the pans in or taking them out to replace with another shade.
- Reasonably priced – at least in the US.
- Practical packaging.
- Easy to travel with.
Cons of Make Up For Ever Refillable Makeup System Palette XL Empty Trio Palette:
- My only concern is the ability to be able to identify the shades in the palette from outside – if you have more than one of these. This can be easily sorted with a little DIY.
Make Up For Ever metal palettes have cult status. They get sold out on Sephora at record speed – literally within minutes of new stock coming in. And with these small refillable palettes, the quality and ease of use continue. Apart from using them for the Artist Face Colour, you can as easily use them to pop in any of your eyeshadow pans – as long as the pan has a metal base – since these have magnetised base.
