Make Up For Ever Mat Velvet Matifying Foundation Review

Hello everyone,

Today, I am here to share my thoughts on Make Up For Ever Mat Velvet + Matifying Foundation. I have been using this foundation on and off for the past six months. Let us get to know all about it.

Product Description:

A shine controlling, oil-free, water-resistant, complete coverage liquid foundation.  Hides imperfections, evens out skin tone, and mattifies with a non-oily, perfectly powdered finish. The result is flawless and lasts for hours.  Although this foundation provides full coverage, the end result is completely adjustable to fit your needs – a little goes a long way.

Research results:

Study panel composed of 22 adults (using a 48 hour patch test) showed this product to be non-irritating and non-comedogenic.

Price:

$36 for 30 ml.

Packaging:

This one comes in a tiny plastic bottle with a nozzle covered with a black twist cap. It is so petite and travel friendly. As the bottle is opaque, it is hard to see the amount of product left inside. Just like the NARS packaging, this one also attracts the dirt quickly.

My Experience with Make Up For Ever Mat Velvet Matifying Foundation:

Make Up For Ever is one of my favorite brands. I love their HD foundation as it makes me look flawless and photographs really beautifully, but it is not full coverage and makes me very oily in just a few hours. So, I went and picked up their Mat Velvet Matifying foundation, I had heard good reviews about it being able to control oil.

There are 16 shades available, the wide shade selection makes it easy to find your matching shade. I use the shade No. 55(Natural beige) in winters and the shade No. 65 (golden beige) in summers, for reference I am NC42 in MAC and #153 in MUFE HD foundation.

You have to shake the bottle well before squeezing out this foundation. I prime my face before applying it and I use my sigma F80 brush to blend.  It blends nicely but you have to do it quickly as it sets quite fast. It has medium to full coverage, it takes about two pumps to cover my full face. It covers my acne scars quite well.  It is a lightweight foundation and gives a velvet matte finish, does not look chalky. I love how natural it looks on skin; my pores look a lot smaller. It does not oxidize during the day and also I have not had any breakouts because of it.

The staying power is very good, after I set it with MUFE HD powder, it stays for 6-7 hours without budging. Now about mattifying, I have to blot my face every 3-4 hours. I was expecting it to be better at controlling the oil, but unfortunately, I get quite shiny in a few hours. Having said that, I am so pleased with how flawless it makes me look, I can deal with blotting my face whenever needed during the day. Usually matte foundations look cakey and heavy, but this definitely is not the case with this.

This foundation will work well for normal, oily and combination skin types, but this is not suitable for ladies with dry skin.

Pros of Make Up For Ever Mat Velvet Matifying Foundation:

  • Looks flawless, photographs well.
  • Long lasting.
  • Natural finish.
  • Blends perfectly.
  • Matte finish.
  • Did not break me out.
  • Travel-friendly packaging.

Cons of Make Up For Ever Mat Velvet Matifying Foundation:

  • Controls oil only for 3-4 hours.

IMBB Rating:

4.5/5

The MUFE Mat Velvet Plus foundation is definitely a winner although for us oily skin ladies, it will take a little more work to keep our skin shine free, but it is totally worth it.

    1. Hey Jomol
you should definitely try it, it works well for you skin type. But you will have to blot in 3-4 hours if you also get as oily as i do. *headbang*

  1. Hey Isha.. nice review…i got a sample from Sephora for this one.. yup this can control shine for not more than 4 hrs. and looks greasy dat is a downer… has a gritty texture because of corn starch…but covers well and little goes a long way.. good one 🙂

    1. Hey Nidhi
Yes it is definitely a bummer that being a matte foundation it does not control oil for long but still the finish it gives is amazing.

  2. Definitely Neetu… Get a sample next time and see how you feel about it. I am enjoying it these days as my skin is under control due to the cold weather.
