Hope all of you are enjoying festival season! Today, I am here to share another beauty product with you all which proved to be my ultimate life savior throughout the trip. Like I mentioned before, Make Up For Ever has come up with 10 different primer formulas in the market targeting particular skin type and concerns and these are creating a lot of hype in the market. I also picked their mattifying and smoothing primer and today, I will share my wonderful experience with its smoothing primer which really helped in blurring all my makeup and skin care woes so well (without any concealer and foundation), just a dab of face powder, amazing, huh?! Though I used it in conjunction with a mattifying primer to get long-lasting matte and flawless finish! So, let’s read more about Make Up Forever Step 1 Equalizer Smoothing Primer!
$36 for 1.0 Oz and $18 for 0.5 Oz, excludes shipping and taxes.
A makeup primer that assists with balancing the skin’s texture and tone for smoother, more even, and longer-lasting makeup wear.
What it does:
Prep skin for your makeup routine with Step 1 Skin Equalizers, and address your skin concerns with this innovative makeup primer. Perfect for balancing skin and achieving an ideal makeup result, it’s lightweight and creamy, leaving a more evenly-toned appearance, and increases foundation’s hold. This primer for all skin tones leaves makeup looking fresh for hours while it hydrates, firms, and smoothes the look of the skin.
My Experience with Make Up For Ever Step 1 Skin Equalizer Smoothing Primer:
Like the previous mattifying primer, it is also housed in a similar black cardboard packaging. Thankfully, the tube packaging differs in color as it is pale grey and you can easily distinguish from the other tubes. It is also quite an user friendly and travel-friendly product though I feel deceived at the quantity, especially for the price I pay.
The smoothing primer is a peachy beige silicone-based primer, which is easily spreadable with no cakey or flaky finish. Though I cannot deny the fact that it may settle into the dry patches hence using a sponge or face brush helps a lot in getting even finish unlike blending with finger tips. I have used their other variant “mattifying primer” as well and comparing this smoothing primer to the previous variant, I see that while the mattifying primer simply mattifies the skin surface with sheer coverage, but the smoothing primer adds a glow with medium coverage blurring effect and does not show up under makeup and/or even wearing alone with a dab of face powder.
However, even the mattifying primer does not show up on the skin, but then, I see more scope of coverage and avoiding extra layers of makeup with this smoothing primer as it almost blurs out my open pores and fine lines up to a good extent that I am good to go with just powder touch ups.
Though I do notice that I don’t get relief from shine or oily skin as my face starts getting oily within 7-8 hours, but then, I can take care of sweat and oil with other oil-absorbing products. However, it also explains that it might increase the longevity of face makeup and helps get us flawless finish provided we club this primer with a mattifying primer to get both matte finish and long-lasting makeup.
Yes gals, using it alone on face might be tricky for oily and combination skin though using oil-free, matte face makeup does help with it. Personally, I prefer clubbing this primer with the mattifying primer to avoid foundation and concealer since I get both coverage and matte finish alone with these products topped with oil-absorbing setting powder. I am quite impressed to see that neither it accentuates my oily skin concerns nor does it cause dryness or breakouts on my skin. It certainly seems a fair deal for every beauty who wishes to avoid heavy-duty makeup and wants a decent coverage from primer.
This primer will definitely help blur out medium to light flaws apart from imparting smooth glow finish on my skin irrespective of the skin’s texture and skin type. Though its high-end price often bothers me, it seems the quantity is less considering its usage and price. I might get it again though I am also searching for cheaper alternatives to match my expectations and results both.
Let’s sum up pros and cons:
Pros of Make Up For Ever Step 1 Skin Equalizer Smoothing Primer:
- A silky soft, easily spreadable smoothing primer meant for open large pores and first signs of ageing.
- Easily blendable with a face sponge or a face brush.
- It does not settle into the fine lines or mild dry patches when it’s applied with a brush or a sponge.
- Not only blurs out pores up to a great extent, it also imparts a luminous glow to face with smooth, refined skin texture.
- Does not show up under the makeup layers.
- It replaced my foundation and concealer as a light powder touch-up is all that I need after wearing this primer.
- It does not aggravate my acne-prone skin woes, does not accentuate dryness.
- Does extend the staying power of makeup.
- User friendly and travel-friendly packaging.
Cons of Make Up For Ever Step 1 Skin Equalizer Smoothing Primer:
- Not good at controlling oil though I get 6-7 hours of matte skin with it.
- Application with finger tips is not advised.
- Might be tricky for dry skin beauties.
- It is really pricey for the quantity we get, I have got only 8 usages out of it.
Honestly, I still feel that keeping its great results aside, the price I paid for 8 usages is simply crazy! I have tried many good primers before which give more or less similar results, hence I am not too sure if I will again shell out almost 18 dollars for mere 8 usages? Though I cannot deny the fact that for people like me who want minimal or nil makeup, this primer is a must have as it is capable of giving benefits of both foundation-concealer in one, that too without any ghastly cast unlike bb or cc creams.
I rate it 3.7/5!
Sharing our trip pictures, where I have worn this primer alone with just face powder and see how it effectively concealed all my skin flaws 🙂
