Hello Beautiful Ladies,
The product I am reviewing is a Make Up For Ever primer from their Step1 primer collection. First of all, what is a primer? It is a base product applied before foundation and after moisturizer, to enhance the lasting capacity of your foundation and also to protect your face from the adverse effects of the products you are layering your face with. Primers are also used for sun protection, mattifying your skin (for oily skin), extra hydration, radiance and colour correction. The most important thing to remember while purchasing a primer (like all other cosmetic products) is to buy one suitable for YOUR skin type and complexion.
STEP1 Skin EQUALIZER triples the power of your foundation: easier application, optimized makeup result, improved wear. RADIANT PRIMERS instantly color correct according to skin tone giving what looks like new bare skin. These tailored equalizers transform radiance levels and bring more hydration and light to the face.
€ 31 for 30 ml
The packaging is a yellow tube with a nozzle end. What I like about it is that the tube is squeezable so it’s easy to release the product. When the product is almost over, you can squeeze it till every ounce of it is out. Personally, I prefer tubes and pump containers over jars because they are more hygienic.
My Experience with Make Up For Ever Step1 Skin Equalizer – Radiant Primer Yellow:
Makeup Forever came out with their collection of Step1 Equalizer primers last October. It consists of eleven primers; namely, mattifying primer, smoothing primer, hydrating primer, nourishing primer, redness correcting primer and six radiant primers for different skin concerns and complexions.
The one I picked is the number 9, Yellow Radiance Primer for tanned skin. My skin has a lot of imperfections with pigmentation marks and uneven skin tone. So, this seemed like the right primer for me. I have been using the primer for about two months now. I apply this before my foundation, after the moisturizer like I mentioned earlier. It dries very quickly. The product claims to“give immediate radiance and even skin tone for a flawless makeup all day long”. I don’t think it worked that way for me. Radiance, yes. Not too evident, but yes. Even skin tone? No, that didn’t happen for me. However, I noticed that the primer lightened my skin tone.
The product inside is a yellow fluid. True to its packaging. The yellow colour disappears immediately after you rub it onto your face. I apply the primer in the morning and my makeup stays put until I take it off at home by 6 pm, after class. So, as a radiance primer, it does a good job.
Unlike most new products I try, this one did not break me out. I’m really thankful for that. It is the reason I trust Make Up For Ever products. I feel they suit all skin types. The reason I still use this product is because somehow, I find that it makes my face brighter and really suits my skin. It’s a good match for all my foundations. I have applied it with four different foundations/BB creams and it performs the same for each one of them.
Pros of Make Up For Ever Step1 Skin Equalizer – Radiant Primer Yellow:
- Adds light radiance to your look.
- A little goes a long way. A tiny drop is enough for your entire face.
- Dries very quickly.
- Hydrates the face.
- The product makes your makeup last for a very long time.
Cons of Make Up For Ever Step1 Skin Equalizer – Radiant Primer Yellow:
- Too expensive for a 30ml container.
- Does not even skin tone.
Would I repurchase Make Up For Ever Step1 Skin Equalizer – Radiant Primer Yellow?
Probably not anytime soon. I’m always on the hunt for better products. And, with so many products available in the market, I’d like to keep my options open. Also, I think I can achieve the ‘radiance’ with a highlighter.
3.5/5. This is only because I have seen primers perform much better. The Skin Equalizer does not completely live upto its claim and delivers average performance.
P.S. This is my first post on IMBB.
