Skin Care: Makeup and Beauty Survival Kit for Chennai

My survival kit for the the first week in Chennai climate:

My hubby having got transferred to Chennai from Pune, we are now putting up in a beautiful guest house which they say is modelled on the English style tudor cottages. But I would like to add the weather is just opposite to the English weather. Its hot and humid but thankfully raining off and on since we came. Pune weather being on the pleasant and dry side always, I had expected certain adjustment changes in my skin and hair in Chennai as would any of us travelling in india. Humidity makes my hair frizzy just like Monica of Friends. The salty water is obviously adding and strangely my palms are rough and facing peeling skin. My face has become a mixture of dry and sticky. The constant air conditioning is adding to the changes. My crappy soapy face wash was not helping. So I just had to run to a pharmacy close by to get some essentials and now I am game for the hot and humid weather because I am just so excited for exploring more of Chennai as its my first time in Tamil Nadu. I got some random stuff from the pharmacy which, you all may have already seen and used a ton times and I already have a hell lot of back up but all my stuff is being brought by the packers and movers from Pune and I forgot to carry these essentials. Of course I am carrying all my lipsticks and fragile make up ,which could have melted on the way . πŸ™‚ It occupied half of my baggage.

Here we go:
Face washes:

 everyuth naturals face wash
everyuth naturals face wash

I picked up Everyuth naturals face wash in cream and fruit. I was confused actually so picked both. I needed something moisturising and fresh . Fruit face wash had amazing fresh fruity smell and lathers okay in the hard water here probably. Leaves skinΒ  smooth and fresh and grease and stickiness free. The cream one smells peacy fresh and of course lathers less but I follow it up with an oil free moisturiser at night so that the cruel air conditioning can be taught a lesson .

What the cream face wash claims:

  • 100% soap free rich and creamy face wash:
  • It is enriched with the nautral goodness of peaches aloe and wild cherry.unlike soaps,
  • It does not leave skin dry and stretched . it nourishes, moisturises and deep cleanses skin leaving it soft supple and perfectly moisturised.
  • Price Rs 35 for 60 grams.

What the fruit face wash claims:

  • It is rich in real fruit (apple ) extracts and multi vitamin complex.it washes away dirt from inner most pores and helps the skin regain moisture and essential nutrients lost due to exposure to the harsh environment. Its soothing properties are an excellent e=remedy for cracked and irritated skin. I love the color.
  • Price: rs 35 for 60 gms

So far so good. It claims to target exactly what my skin is facing. So I am loving both face washes. Very well priced and over all a good quality product.

Next I got livon silky potion 100 ml for rfs 185(reviewed on IMBB).

Livon Silky Potion
Livon Silky Potion

i forgot to pack my hair serums and I badly needed one as my hair has become super frizzy and dry. Not to forget I already have dry hair but certain water conditions will inevitably take its toll on hair. Livon is holy grail and life saver for me.

Thankfully I did pack my lactocalamine lotion for oily to normal skin in 120 ml pack as I tan super fast and cant use sunscreens as they all leave me sticky.

Lato Calamine
Lato Calamine

Lacto acts as barrier against the sun and dust around and I just love this product, more so in the sun and heat of Chennai. It dries up skin but may mix with sweat over time and leave u greasy but not at all oily. Price:rs 72 for 120 ml

Next I picked up pure hands herbal hand sanitizer by Himalaya herbals. I already had a spray one and dermicool one but forced hubby to carry one all the time. I wanted to buy this because of the cute name and price of rs 39 for 50 ml.

  • Softening action of hrivera
  • Recommended for daily frequent use
  • Gives upto 100 application per bottle
  • Potent cleanser
  • Moisturiser
  • Deodorant
  • Self drying gel
  • Ensures total hand hygiene
  • Contains nautaral moisturisers and deodorants that keep the hand soft. Smooth and fresh.
  • Effective against bacteria fungus and virus
  • Pure hands is a herbal hand sanitizer that cleans and disinfects hands habnds and reduces the risk of infection.
  • Indications: infectious condition of hands, cleansing hands for general maintenance of hygiene
Use pure hands during sickness caused by microbial infection, before and after attending a sick person, before touching and infant, during travel, before eating food. Before use of contact lenses, after contact with soiled clothing, material or pets , after using the toilet, after contact with surfaces in public places

Directions:
Squeeze approx . 5 ml coin sized drop of the gel on ur palms. Rub well over the palms and back of ur hands, finger nails, and grooves briskly until dry.

My take on it:
I am kinda obsessed with clean hands . especially since I do have grown nails. I use a nail brush too to clean under the nails if needed. Habd sanitizers have alcohol and since this product claims to moisturise, I picked it up . but it smells very very strongly of alcohol. It is runny and not really gel like. Its transparent. Coin sized is too much I feel but dries in ten seconds of rubbing. I am not very happy with overwhelming alcoholic scent. Over all hands don’t feel dry or anything but I don’t mind following up with hand cream. There are def better hand sanitizers I have used.

Vaseline intensive care: lip care for soft pink lips(price rs 20)

I picked this up cause I forgot to pack a decent lip balm with me. My lips are also chapped as part of the climate change and needed something bang on target rather than a beautifying lip balm or anything. its neutral smelling and not tinted or really that shiny. Okay for bedtime.

iodex, Vaseline tub for cuticles, odomos naturals

Other random stuff I picked up was the new head fast balm by iodex, Vaseline tub for cuticles( rs 5 ), odomos naturals( rs 18 for 25 grams)in case we go out at night,

park avenue deo , axe denim cologne talc

would really want tips from chennai girls πŸ™‚
hope u are keeping well and all geared for the big day
      all the very best

  4. That was a real good list of essentials, almost for everything! Did you buy any special stuff for feet, or you’d already carried it with you to Chennai? I am asking this, coz my feet are the most problematic area for me, of all! :-(( :-(( ..and they become worse whenever they experience a change of weather.

    1. nai just some regular body creams and softeners by avon which i packed three of them
but have a ton of foot creams by oriflame and avon
will reveiw if u want cali!

      1. Sure!! Please do that. I’ve been using this Himalaya foot cream for my feet, and so far it is doing good. But major problem areas for me are my toes, cuticles and nails. I don’t know why my toenails always keep on breaking right from the middle, which is really painful and looks rather hideous!!… πŸ˜₯ πŸ˜₯ πŸ˜₯ πŸ˜₯

  5. Hey Neha……it happens to me all the time, I forgot to take along what I require as essentials, but then I get to buy new stuff then πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ ……and BTW, I didnt know that the face washes were only 35…..off I go to the store today itself to buy it…..are you sure its only 35???

  6. πŸ˜€ Awesome neha !
    Interesting
You have put it up together well!
I guess chennai is a super -hot place!
I mean literally HOT AND HUMID! :chic:

    Also,
    How’s lacto calamine?
    I thought of buying it!?
    What does it do ?
I have oily skin! 😐 aah!
    .-= giasaysthat´s last blog ..Headband collection =-.

    1. gia lacto is HG
      beleive me
try that tiny ten rupee pack for oily skin
i love it so much that i just bot the largest 120 ml πŸ˜€
ya chennai is hot but its cloudy these days

    2. lacto acts as a tinted moisturiser, barrier against sun and pollution, lightly mattifies skin and does not break me out
so this is a wonder product for me

  7. Hi Neha, welcome to Chennai πŸ™‚
Your list seems good for someone who has just moved here. I would like to add that maybe you can carry a packet of wet-wipe tissues. Chennai is a pretty dusty place and your face is likely to get pretty dirty as you travel around trying to explore it. So carry that in your bag at all times.

      1. ya the weather’s been suspiciousness pleasant recently! Even the summer was not as bad as previous summers (it rained quite a bit) 😯

  8. Hey Neha – Welcome to Chennai…I am sure you will love the place..we are a good group of people πŸ™‚ A lot of my colleagues from the north were apprehensive about moving to chennai..but they all adapted so well and didn’t want to move out later πŸ™‚

    1. thanks Jane
ya i am so excited ….and so open to any adjustment in any part of the country
coz stayed in so many states but first time in tamil nadu :-))

      1. I didn’t find any unbearable Neha πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ Besides the last one I saw was a baby…and that I don’t think was you at any age πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ :D: D Ok, seriously though, I liked all of them..but this one and your earlier pic look different…at least to me…so now me curious what do you actually actuallly actuallllly look like πŸ˜€

        1. its all me
          just me motu in this
come to chennai and see…its really me in all
just shy to meet all u pretty ladies as i have really put on a lot
