Makeup and Beauty Product Ratings

For quite some time we have been feeling that the reviews on IMBB should not be one-sided, i.e. the views on a product should not be of a single person only. Although we know most of the writers writing on IMBB personally and we can vouch for them that the views expressed by them are completely honest and coming from their personal experiences, we would like to safeguard against any personal bias or possible manipulation in future as more and more writers are joining IMBB. Not only that, we would like this platform to be a representation of each one of us.

Keeping that in mind, we have integrated a ‘Rating’ facility at the bottom of each post. You can rate a product according to four parameters- quality, price, packaging and availability. In each of the parameters, you can rate the product on a scale of 1 to 5. We have kept the weightage of each parameter different. Quality, being the most important, has a weightage of 4, price has a weightage of 3, packaging has a weightage of 2, and availability has a weightage of 1. So a good rating on Quality is more important than a good rating on packaging.

Suppose someone gives 3 on quality, 2 on price, 4 on packaging and 2 on availability. The overall rating of the product will be 3 x .4 + 2 x .3 + 4 x .2 + 2 x   .1 = 2.8 out of 5.

As the rating is locked on to IPs, you can rate on a particular product only once. This prevents many IMBB haters, mischief mongers, product owners, competitors, and even review writers themselves from manipulating the rating too much. But it’s still not foolproof. What can make it foolproof is the action taken by you guys- since a large amount of genuine ratings offset any manipulation, you are requested to rate on every product review that you read on IMBB. Please shed your laziness and do rate on a product if you can. This will really help others who genuinely want to know about a product.

(Added Later): The rating is meant for people who have used the product. If you haven’t used the product but still want to rate on it, then technically the only parameter which you would have no knowledge about is quality. Then give some ‘perceived rating’ on quality and submit. If you do not rate on quality it would take zero on quality from your side which would also be incorrect. So give some perceived rating or an average rating.

  1. Great initiative!!!reminding me of my old Marketing text books-4 “P”-product,price,package,place(hope i dint miss out any P ?:-) )

  2. Wow.. that’s a smart move.. dis way we get to know the general consensus about the product in addition to the detailed review..!!!

You people are always improving and adding to the quality of OUR FAVE BLOG..!!!

  3. Wow…thats a great idea…I got the overall idea, but the mathematics behind it just went over my head…..but I am excited and waiting for a product to come across to start rating on it……it would be fun.

  4. 😥 😥 😥 😥 I just got passing marks for marks in my 10th grade…I got the highest in science……. 😥 😥 😥 😥 😥

  5. 😥 😥 😥 😥 😥 I just got passing marks for MATHS in my 10th grade…I got the highest in science……. 😥 😥 😥 😥

  6. Hmm..have a doubt…I won’t have used a certain MAC eyeshadow..then how can I rate it?? Shall I just rate it based on your review of it? It really is not fair na..that way..you might like it, I will be biased into liking it cos you like it…but when I actually go and buy it, I might not like it. Or did I get the concept all wrong?????

Please bear with this comment..posted by a dodo 😀

    1. Hi Radhika,

The rating is meant for people who have used the product.

      1. Ya …I tried it on the Chanel post…was fun. I think if I cannot honestly rate it, I will just stay off…feel better that way. Though since I seem to have so much to go on and on about in the comments section, I will be rating almost everything!

        Thanks for the explaining 🙂

  7. chalo..t.here is something on which me and Rads have a similar opinion…… :handshake: :handshake: :handshake: :handshake:

By the way, I have added the Math for you guys in the post. So people with even passing marks in grade 10th would understand 😉 😉 😉

  16. Gr8 idea!! This way we would also knw wht the general junta thinks abt a product..has this rating been put for old product reviews too?

  17. Rati…..its an old malayalam saying…..its like you see someone who is overtly healthy and associated him/her with “khaate peete ghar ki”…same way in Kerala……you have a healthy obese body, it is understood that you have a good heart. If you are skinny and slim, they conclude that after all your heart isn’t as good. A healthy obese body is equal to a mighty heart….since radhika was saying she wasn’t putting on weight even after eating and not exercising, it has been concluded that she in fact has not got a good heart :giggle: :snicker:

  18. :reallyangry: :reallyangry: Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr…is a ploy by Mallus to seem like good people….I am sure you luvvvvv Suresh Gopi….big-heart hero to Jomol.

  19. this is such an awesome idea…truly democratic!
I love how you’ve assigned different weightages to the different parameters (haha math jargon, a welcome break from all the makeup talk :P)
As far as availability goes…what about the users that live outside the country? The results might get skewed there…should we still vote based on perceived availability or actual availability? I really am not looking to complicate the process, but to offer the best feedback I can… so bear with me 😛

  20. I think everyone should rate availability factor according to their own place. In this way, the international brands would score better on availability but obviously they should. 🙂
