Skin Type: Oily, sensitive with oily eyelids
I am back with loads of new products this month and I will first review a super gorgeous eye shadow palette. When I first saw this makeup palette in some tutorials and reviews, I was totally impressed to see the colors in the palette. Also, as many claimed, it is a dupe of the Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Palette, not only color wise but also formula wise. I waited for it to get launched in India so that I can check that on my own. I picked it up last month and I am ready to share my thoughts on it today.
The Chocolate Elixir Palette by Makeup Revolution has a beautiful mix of 16 matte and shimmer eye shadows ranging from neutrals to warm, long wearing, highly pigmented shades, that are easy to apply and soft to blend. Shades that will compliment and draw attention to your eyes. Encased in a beautiful matte rose gold chocolate bar palette with full size mirror.
My Experience with Makeup Revolution I Heart Makeup Chocolate Elixir Palette:
Packaging: Makeup Revolution has absolutely nailed the packaging of all the eyeshadow palettes in this range. It looks elegant, beautiful, sleek and modern. The palette comes in a normal clear front cardboard box and inside the box, sits the melted chocolate bar. The melted effect is done in golden and it adds a beautiful contrast to the brown palette. There is a big, beautiful mirror inside the palette which makes it travel friendly. It comes with a sponge applicator which will help if you are in a hurry and need a quick application.
Being a dusky girl, I love warm-toned shadows as they show up super vibrantly on my eyes. This is my perfect choice, keeping that in mind. It does contain a few cool-toned shades, but overall it is a warm palette. It is versatile and women of any age and color can feel comfortable with this one. You can create a variety of eye makeup looks using this palette. The shade names are pretty unique and will remind you of a old-styled café and pastry shop.
Coconut- A creamy white shade that can be used as a base color to make the shadows pop.
Icing- A warm beige shade that acts as a base color for warm skin tone. It has slight shimmery effect and you can use it on the lid to make the eyes pop.
Sweet- This is a purplish brown shimmery shade.
Latte- This is a yellowish caramel matte shade that looks great as a transition shade.
Chestnut- A deep brown matte shade which defines the crease adds loads of depth and also can be used to bring a smoky effect.
Red Velvet- It is a matte, maroonish red shade.
Pumpkin- This is a very light orange matte shade.
Roasted- This is a grayish brown matte shade.
Crème Brulee- This is a champagne, shimmery shade that can be used in the inner corner of the eyes, or to highlight the brow bone. I have used it on the cheek too as a highlighter.
Candy- This is a matte, taupe brown shade.
Bubble Gum- This is a matte, berry pink shade which looks very pretty and vibrant.
Carrot Cake- This is a vibrant, matte, orange shade. You can easily create a look centering this color.
Hot Tea- This is a lighter orange-toned brown, matte shade that looks good on the crease.
Sugar- A muted golden shimmer shade that can highlight the brow bone, inner corner of eye and also the cheeks.
Pink Icing- This is a deep reddish pink shade with a very slight hint of shimmer.
Vanilla- This is a white shimmery shade. I am not a big fan of this color. Very fair girls can use this to highlight.
Pigmentation: The pigmentation is quite okay I would say. Not all colors show up in the first swipe, especially on my darker skin tone; however, 2-3 swipes show up the color perfectly. Some of them are super pigmented too. The colors are buildable and you can build up the intensity without any fear of creasing.
Texture and Quality: All shades are very silky and smooth. They blend like a dream on the lids and as I mentioned earlier, do not crease at all. The shimmery shades are not patchy and they blend uniformly to give a shiny effect. The colors do not settle into fine lines either.
Staying Power: Even without a primer, the colors survive for 8-10 hours which I think is great. You must use an oil-based remover to remove all shades perfectly.
In the swatches, I have used shades from this palette to create the look. I have also used the shimmery shades as highlighters.
Overall, this is a great palette. I do not know if this is a dupe of the Modern Renaissance palette as I have not used that, but the colors do look similar if you compare and the quality is also great at this price. If you are a fan of these colors, do give this palette a try.
