Mannings Lemongrass and Ginger Spa Exfoliating Body Scrub Review

Mannings Lemongrass and Ginger Spa Exfoliating Body Scrub Review

I have always suffered from a mixed or rather confusing skin type. Why is it confusing because it keeps on changing depending on its mood. My facial skin ranges from normal to oily, whereas the skin on the rest of my body keeps on fluctuating from being normally dry to extremely-itching dry. Because of this my skin really loves body scrubs and lotions and I love to pamper myself whenever I get some little time and patience.

I’ve always experimented a lot with various body scrubs, shower gels and lotions, wherever I go. Thankfully, till date I haven’t had any nightmare experiences with any.

So, two weekends back when I went for shopping, I saw this attractive bottle of Mannings lemongrass and ginger spa exfoliating bath scrub, with some Chinese writing on it. I found it at the nearest Health and Glow store (Koramangla, Bangalore). The product was also available in green teal range. Although I love teatree oil, yet somehow, something about having lemongrass and ginger, really attracted me a lot towards this scrub. Also, the cost was quite nominal for such a huge bottle. So, as usual going by my instincts – I bought it. :-P.

Quantity: 750 ml
Price: Rs. 379/-

What Mannings Lemongrass and Ginger Spa Exfoliating Bath Scrub claims to do?

  • Cleanses and Gently Exfoliates with refreshing lemongrass and ginger spa.
  • Is enriched with ginger essential oils, seaweed and aloe vera extracts.
  • Leaves the skin soft and smooth because of its walnut shell powder.

Ingredients: Aqua, Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLS), Acrylates copolymer, Cocamidopropyl betaine, Cocamide Dea, Glycerin, Cocamide mea, Glycol Disterate, PEG-75 Lanolin, Polyquanternium – 7, Algae extract, Aloe Barbadnesis leaf extract, fragrance, Trithanolamine, Juglans Regia (Walnut) shell powder, DMDM Hydantoin, Disodium EDTA, Sodium Chloride, Zingiber officinale (ginger) root oil, Citrus Aurantium Bergamia (Bergamot) Leaf extract, Sodium Benzotriazolyl Butyphenol Sulfonate, Buteth – 3, Tributyl Citrate.

Phew!! ..That was one hell lot of ingredients. Even with so many chemical or rather scientific names of the ingredients written on the package, the product claims to contain natural materials which may cause batch to batch color deviation. And one should not be alarmed at this as the color deviation wouldn’t affect the product quality and efficacy.

(Pic of the ingredients, if I’ve misspelled something :P)

Caution: Avoid contact with eyes, keep away from children and stop using immediately if skin gets irritated on its usage.

My experience with the product:
The first thing that hit me hard the moment I took a small bead of the liquid on my palm was its strong ginger and lemongrass smell. The smell is indeed intense, and may remind you of the actual body spa parlors.

  • The liquid scrub is quite thick and just small amount on loofah can be enough for whole body.
  • It lathers quite well (thanks to SLS in it!) producing a thick amount of foam, because of which I feel a larger amount of this, can work for bath tub foaming as well!! :-P.
  • The scrub indeed has minute and fine granules of what they say is walnut shell powder, which is neither too harsh, nor too gentle on the skin. The quantity is right and consistent and you can actually feel the scrub motion while using it on your body.

Can you see the walnut shell powder? 🙂

  • Another good part of the product is its casing, which is quite hygienic. The bottle’s cap is incorporated with a pump, which is efficient enough to just ooze the desired amount.

I have been using the product since past 2 weeks now, and I haven’t felt any skin irritation so far. On the other hand, the extreme dryness of my skin has vanished in literal sense. I can say that because usually I can never live without applying a body lotion, after taking shower or else people might start comparing me to a zoo’s monkey, seeing me itching all over my hands and toes. And that is really gross too…..

Anyways, since the time I’ve started using this body scrub, I have not felt any dryness at all, not till 2-3 hours of taking shower. I may need small amount of lotion in the later half of the day. Apart from this, I feel my skin to be much softer too. Yesterday my feet got badly drenched and dirty in rain and mud, and I desperately dipped my feet in warm water with some amount of this scrub into that. To my surprise, my feet were thoroughly cleansed and even moisturized well. It was really amazing.

Rating: :-* :-* :-* :-*

I didn’t give 5 stars because I am still doubtful about its ingredients. They were all Greek and Latin to me. There is still whole bottle left for me to finish. So, if anything drastic happens to me after continuous usage of this scrub for a long time, I’ll update here :-P, otherwise this scrub is an absolute    .

  1. Hi Cali,
Awesome review.. Feels like this review was written for me. I have the exact same skin as yours.. Sooooper Dry.. If i step out without applying a moisturizer i will look like a clown with dry skin on my hands and legs. i can even draw clear lines with my nails… phew.. tough skin to be in. Well i think i should give a try to these scrubs. I have seen them many times in Health& glow but never thought of buying one thinking it will make my skin even more dry.. Do u use it everyday. ? I was under the impression that for dry skin there shouldn’t be too much of scrubbing.

    1. Hi Suganya,

Thanks for liking the review!! :-)…Yeah I use it every day. And for dry skin I feel you should use mild scrubs because dry skin usually tends to shed dead skin more than normal-oily skin. The scrub is quite gentle and has till now really made my skin smoother and a lot moisturized from within. I still use a mild body lotion like St. Ives Satin coz of mere habit!! :-P. Earlier I had to stick to the thick body creams, but with this, my skin seems to be a lot manageable now! 🙂

  2. I would love to try this one….I know how lemon grass smells….somewhat like Zandu Balm….hai na Rati??????? 😉 😉 😉 😉 😉 😉

  3. Hey Cali,

  4. Nice review Cali, but you are right, the ingredient list is rather scary and kinda puts me off… Im kinda going off chemicals I guess :), I’m another dry skin mortal to lazy to slather on body lotion 99% of the time but these days Im using body shop raspberry bathgel is very moisturising so I get away 😀

  5. Someone shopped and shopped and shopped at Health and Glow 😀 😀 😀 This sounds so good, I am surely going to try this…but do they have anything other than this Lemongrass-Ginger one? I went to H and G too…and I didn’t notice any of this…. :-(( :-(( :-((
