Hello everyone,

Marc Jacobs #110 Role Play New Nudes Sheer Lip Gel Lipstick Review

Product Description:
A curated collection of nourishing neutral lipsticks for the perfect n*de shade.

What it does:

This covetable lip collection breaks the mold of traditional n*de lipstick. Its innovative gel formula glides effortlessly over lips, laying down subtle shades and a sleek shine finish with a delicate vanilla scent. Velvet-like monoi butter, derived from the tropical tiaré flower, delivers supreme moisture while nourishing myrrh extract and antioxidant vitamin E minimize the appearance of aging—including vertical fine lines.

My Experience with Marc Jacobs #110 Role Play New Nudes Sheer Lip Gel Lipstick:

Packaging:  This lipstick comes in a similar tube as the Le Marc lipsticks with the exception of the light beige tube which marks the distinction. The cap closes securely and the color of the lipstick is reflected with the sticker underneath the tube.

Texture and Pigmentation:  These lipsticks have a gel-like texture and they glide on super smoothly on the lips with a slick “absolutely no tug” slip. This category of lipsticks, as the name describes, are sheer, yet you get a beautiful 75-80% opaque pigmentation on the lips depending on the shade. You do need 2-3 swipes to build up the intensity of the pigmentation, but even then, it does retain a translucency on the lips. You will never get a full punch of color with these lipsticks.

Feel on lips:  Even with multiple swipes, this lipstick does not feel heavy at all on the lips. It is so smooth and hydrating that it feels like I have a lip balm on my lips. It does not settle under fine lines nor does it accentuate dryness. It makes the lips feel soft and supple which I love.

Finish:  Unlike the Le Marc lipstick which packs on a punch of color and goes on with a complete matte finish, these n*de sheer lips gels have a slightly glossy sheen on the lips upon initial application. It gives a very natural-looking color to the lips. The shine settles down to a sheen in an hour or so and the shine completely fades 3-4 hours into wear time

Shade:  All the shades in this range are an array of n*de shades and you are sure to find that perfect pinky n*de for your skin tone in this range. Some of the lighter shades may wash out deeper skin tones.  The shade #110 Role Play is described as a dusty rose color. It is a very light rosy brown shade which is very similar to my natural lip color hence it doesn’t provide a contrast against my lips and is a true MLBB shade for me. I actually find this shade to be quite dull as I usually prefer colors which are a bit brighter to bring life to my face. On the plus side, it is such a low maintenance color that I can pair it with my everyday looks or use it a n*de lipstick paired with heavy eye makeup.

In the comparison swatches of the lipsticks I have from this range, they may all seem similar at a glance, but they are quite different. The shade “Understudy” is a coral-based pink, Role Play is a dusty mauve-brown and Eat Cake is a medium pink.  This shade does not contain any shimmer.

Staying Power:  Staying power is barely 4 hours, that too without eating or drinking. Since this is a very neutral shade, you can see a hint of color by the end of 4 hours and re-application is required to keep the glossy shine and color looking fresh. Even as it fades, it leaves my lips very hydrated and conditioned.

Overall, I like the texture and hydrating formula of this lipstick, but I am not a huge fan of this dull color. Apart from the poor staying power (which is expected from most sheer lipsticks), I have not much negative to say about this product. There are a lot of nice everyday n*de shades in this range and you might be able to find that perfect MLBB shade for you. I will recommend this range of lipsticks.
