Marc Jacobs #150 Eat Cake New Nudes Sheer Lip Gel Review

Hello Everyone,

As you know, I have been highly impressed with Marc Jacobs Spring 2015 makeup collection in which he launched 2 categories of lipstick which are Le Marc Lipsticks (I own 5 of them, you can see the haul post and reviews here) and Nude Sheer Lip Gels. I only own 1 color in the Nude Sheer range out of 7 available.

About The Product:
A curated collection of nourishing neutral lipsticks for the perfect nude shade.

What it does:
This covetable lip collection breaks the mold of traditional nude lipstick. Its innovative gel formula glides effortlessly over lips, laying down subtle shades and a sleek shine finish with a delicate vanilla scent. Velvet-like monoi butter, derived from the tropical tiaré flower, delivers supreme moisture while nourishing myrrh extract and antioxidant vitamin E minimize the appearance of aging — including vertical fine lines.

My Experience with Marc Jacobs #150 Eat Cake New Nudes Sheer Lip Gel:

Packaging:
This lipstick comes in a similar tube as the Le Marc lipsticks with the exception of the light beige tube which marks the distinction. The cap closes securely and the color of the lipstick is reflected with the sticker underneath the tube.

Texture& Pigmentation:
These lipsticks as described by the name have a gel like texture. They glide on super smooth on the lips like butter with absolutely no tug. This category of lipstick as the name describes are sheer yet you get beautiful 80-85% opaque pigmentation on the lips. You do need 2-3 swipes to build up the intensity of the pigmentation.

Feel on lips:
Even with multiple swipes, this lipstick does not feel heavy at all on the lips. It is so smoothing and hydrating that it feels like I have a lip balm on my lips. It does not settle in fine lines nor does it accentuate dryness. It makes the lips feel soft and supple which I love.

Finish:
Unlike the Le Marc lipstick which pack on a punch of color and go on with a complete matte finish, these nude sheer lips gels have a slight glossy sheen on the lips upon initial application. It gives a very natural looking color to the lips. The shine settles down to a sheen in an hour or so and the shine almost fades 3-4 hours into wear time (refer to picture to see how it wore).

Shade:
All the shades in this range are an array of nude shades and you are sure to find that perfect pinky nude for your skin tone in this range. Some of the lighter shades may wash deeper skin out, but the shade I picked which is 150 Eat Cake is the shade right in the middle of the spectrum of shades available. It is described as a rosy nude but on my light-medium skin tone (NW23) it looks like a beautiful medium pink. It does not contain any shimmer and this is the perfect shade to apply every day and everywhere. It goes with every makeup look and looks good even with no makeup on. This is the perfect shade to apply on the go and it is very low maintenance. It does not bleed but it does transfer.

Staying Power:
Staying power is barely 4 hours. You can see a hint of color by the end of 4 hours and re- application is required to keep the glossy shine and color looking fresh. Even as it fades, it leaves my lips very hydrated and conditioned.

Overall, yes I love this lipstick. Apart from the poor staying power (which is expected from all sheer lipsticks) I have nothing negative to say about this product. I highly recommend this product if you are looking for an everyday shade.
