Hey gorgeous gals,
I have been trying to get my hands on the Marc Jacobs Liquid Lip Creme for a while now. That didn’t happen. So, when they launched these Liquid Lip Crayons, I was truly intrigued. One side of my brain (the sane side) did ask to not get hooked on by a gimmick; ‘liquid lip crayon’, really? But the fun side of my brain said – let’s give it a try. And, here we are! So, let us find out how this one performed.
Price: US $26 for 2g
Liquid lip in a stick. One-swipe color. 16h luxe longwear.
Rewrite the (lipstick) rules: le marc liquid lip crayon is everything you love about a liquid lipstick in a creamy crayon.
This creamy crayon melts into lips with a lightweight liquid sensation, providing powerful one-swipe color with bold impact. A dose of innovative “Ghost pearl” gives the matte look a dimensional sheen for a never-before-seen finish. With the perfect amount of playtime, you get the best of both worlds: instant color that lasts for 16 luxurious hours of longwear.
The bold, high-pigmented shades feel creamy and comfortable and won’t dry or settle into lines.
The crayon offers total control for effortless application. It’s easier than ever to shape and fill your lips. Have it both ways… Now you never need to choose between a traditional lipstick or a liquid again with this new innovation.
Each shade has a precise dose of innovative “Ghost pearl” in a complementary or contrast tint to give lips added dimension. The sublty shimmering effect becomes more visible at certain angles or lighting to give lips a modern, never-before-seen finish.

My Experience with Marc Jacobs Le Marc Liquid Lip Crayon 310 Night Mauves:
The lipstick comes packaged in a plastic chubby pencil format with a regular twist up mechanism. The lip product does not roll into the tube fully – so be careful while opening and closing the cap. The cap itself secures tightly – so there shouldn’t be a mishap in your bag if you toss it in. The chubby pencil is black with a colour coordinated patch on it. So, if you do have more than one of these, it would be fairly easy to select the one you want. The shade name is mentioned on the side – instead of the bottom of the chubby pencil.
Described by the Company as a “soft pinky mauve.” It is a medium, dirty pink shade with warm undertones and a subtle cool, mauve shift. The shift is more obvious when you use it on the lips because of the curvy dimensions of the lips. The colour looks fairly ho-hum in the tube. It seemed like a dull neutral shade and I started wondering if it was a mistake to get this. However, once you apply it, things start falling into place.
As per the brand – “A dose of innovative “ghost pearl” gives the matte look a dimensional sheen, which becomes more visible at certain angles to give lips a modern, never-before-seen finish.” This is it! The lipstick has a matte finish with this pearly shift which is so subtle and yet there. It’s not a glossy effect. It’s not a highlighter effect. It just adds a bit of shine with a shift in colour, which adds so much dimension to the lips. Absolutely stunning and unlike anything else I have seen.
I have reviewed so many lipsticks on IMBB and yet I have never encountered a texture like this – EVER! I cannot say it is “light-weight”; it is a pretty much weightless, creamy texture which just glides onto the lips effortlessly but does not have a slip. So, the product will not move around during the course of wear or when you purse your lips together.
It literally feels like a layer of extremely lightweight, thin textured, liquid lipstick. You don’t even feel it on your lips. Unbelievable. I wouldn’t call it a hydrating formula but it is definitely super comfortable. Being a matte finish, once it sets, it does not transfer too much. It is easy to apply the pencil and get clear even lines.
The lipstick is fully opaque in a single swipe. I think this is what got me – the weightlessness of the texture coupled with the opaque pigmentation. I cannot think of any other lipstick line that I have tried which would have this combination. The brand states “providing powerful one-swipe color with bold impact” and totally delivers it.
This is the bummer in the whole discussion. The lipstick, being matte, does not transfer and lasts fairly long. I feel that probably the darker shades may give even better wear time. However, I feel the brand kind of screwed it up by making too tall a claim – which I can’t think of any lip product being able to deliver realistically. The brand claims “16 luxurious hours of long-wear”!!
So, even when the product performs stellar by giving 7.5-8 hours of wear time it still falls dramatically short of the claim made by the brand. Even if the product gave 10 hours of wear, it would still be short of the claim. Why make such claims? I really feel that sometimes marketing teams are way too disjointed from their production teams. Anyway, when it starts fading it does too evenly, without getting patchy. It does not leave any stain.
There is a slight fragrance but I did not register it while applying. I smelled it only when I actually sniffed the product.
To sum this up for you:
Pros of Marc Jacobs Le Marc Liquid Lip Crayon 310 Night Mauves:
A lovely shade elevated further by the pearly shift in colour.
Very comfortable to wear.
Easy to apply and get clean lines.
Applies smoothly and evenly.
Does not flake or bleed.
Decent and effective packaging.
Does not smudge or feather.
Cons of Marc Jacobs Le Marc Liquid Lip Crayon 310 Night Mauves:
Excellent wear time – but falls far short of the brand’s claim.
IMBB Rating: 4/5
I would have rated this product way higher had it not fallen so short of the brand’s claims. If you do not take this into account – this is an amazing product. Having said all this – one point keeps nagging at me at the back of my head. The company states “Snap the cap shut to keep your Liquid Lip Crayon ultra-creamy.” On its own, the statement does not mean too much. Yes, ensure you snap the cap securely to ensure the product stays creamy. Inversely, this means that the product probably has a tendency to dry up. Which would still be okay if Marc Jacobs products did not have a history of drying up super soon despite the caps being securely shut – *cough* Marc Jacobs Highliner Gel Eye Crayons *cough* I remember buying 2 of those some time back and they literally dried up in less than 3 months. And considering each one costs $25, it was not funny. So, I am sceptical about the shelf life of the product but I cannot evaluate that right now since it is a new release. So, I thought I would just share this bit as a head’s up.
Would I Recommend Marc Jacobs Le Marc Liquid Lip Crayon 310 Night Mauves?
Yes! I love the combination here – the pearly shift which adds dimension, the weightlessness of texture and the opaque pigmentation. This is quite unique.
