One more shower gel review for you today. As I said in my previous review, I am still trying new ones from my last M&S haul. I really do think I went a little overboard with this.

My Experience with Marks & Spencer Nature’s Ingredients Cocoa Butter Shower Gel:

My standard skin type information – though I have combination to oily, dehydrated facial skin, I have fairly dry body skin. I hate repeating myself in each review, but it is for the benefit of anyone who lands here from a Google search. I have mentioned this a number of times that I do not have a HG shower gel or body wash. So, nothing to compare things to. I buy shower gels purely based on their fragrance, use them and pick up something new, the next time.

Please note that the product under review contains SLS – which I know can be an immediate NO for some people – since it can be drying for the skin.

Packaging: The packaging is quite simple. The product comes in a squeezable plastic tube. There was no seal. However, the store ensured that they put a plastic tape on the lid of each of the shower gels I picked, which kind of made me think there must have been some incident/complaints regarding the cap opening and product leakage. It is a fairly large tube – with 250 ml of product and squeezable – so I guess it’s safe to say – do not travel with it.

Fragrance: The fragrance of this one is just as the name suggests – sweet cocoa fragrance. I’m still not sure how I feel about anything cocoa on my body. Something in my mind does not gel with it as a bath & body product. I am still okay with it in a shower gel, I guess, versus say a body lotion. So far the good thing is that the fragrance isn’t too potent or strong and does not transfer much to the skin.

Texture: The product is quite runny. It is easy to dispense from the tube. Considering the size of the tube and how runny it is, do be careful or you will end up with way more than what you need. It spreads easily on the body and lathers well. Post washing off, it does not seem to leave a residue on the body.

Application: The application is simple – you can use it directly or with a loofah.
Efficacy: As I mentioned earlier, the shower gel lathers well. It leaves my skin feeling cleansed, supple and smooth – without any residue or any feeling of stretchiness. The fragrance does not last too long on the body – but then, I had little expectation that it would. The fragrance can be built up by layering – using body lotion, body mist, body powder, deo, etc with the same fragrance. The brand does have different products in the same fragrance to enable you to do so. I do need to ensure that I use a body butter/lotion/oil post my bath.

Point to Note: The addition of Cocoa Butter extract in the product does not make this variant drastically different from the others. I did not feel this one to be any more nourishing to the body than the other variants.
To sum this up for you:

Pros of Marks & Spencer Nature’s Ingredients Cocoa Butter Shower Gel:

  • A fragrant shower gel.
  • Gentle on the skin – did not leave it feeling stretchy.
  • Spreads easily.
  • Lathers well.
  • Does not leave a residue post washing off.
  • Did not irritate my skin.
  • Foams nicely.
  • Did not dry my skin further or aggravate the dryness in summers.
  • Not tested on animals.
  • Paraben free.

Cons of Marks & Spencer Nature’s Ingredients Cocoa Butter Shower Gel:

  • For me – the fragrance isn’t the most enjoyable. However, if you love the fragrance of cocoa, you might actually enjoy it. But do be warned, that it will not transfer onto the skin.
  • Has SLS.

Do I Recommend Marks & Spencer Nature’s Ingredients Cocoa Butter Shower Gel?
I’m a little iffy about cocoa in my bath & body products. Even though I used to love the Palmer’s Cocoa Body oil. The fragrance took some effort to get used to. To be honest, I may have used up almost the entire bottle – but still not got around to the fragrance. The good thing is that in this product, the fragrance isn’t so pronounced and neither does it linger on the body – so I guess it is ok.
