Hi bonitos,
Today’s review is about a lipstick which my SIL got for me from London. Yes, I have super cool relatives who get loads of make up for me. Read on further to know more about this lipstick rather flipstick.
Product being reviewed : Maxfactor Flipstick Colour Effect Lipstick Boreal Mauve.
Price:
£ 9
Claims:
Max Factor Colour Effect Flipstick is designed to add a dimension to lip colour by sweeping one shade over the upper lip then flip the Flipstick to apply the second shade to your lower lip, or combine the colours. The result is a graphic and texturised finish.
Available in six shades Gypsy Red, Mosaic Mauve, Bloomy Pink, Melody Brown, Folky Pink and Boreal Mauve.
My Take on Maxfactor Flipstick Colour Effect Lipstick Boreal Mauve:
I was quite excited when I saw this beauty. I mean I have seen the dual ended lip products, which have gloss on one end and the lipstick on the other, but this was quite new to me as these flipsticks have lipsticks on both the ends. These were launched in the year 2012 and the company wanted to position these as the tools for lip art. Well, I had heard about nail art and body art, but this lip art was an altogether new concept for me, so I was even more looking forward to trying these. Both the shades were carefully chosen by the Max Factor experts.
The first impression of these flipsticks apart from fascination was the bright colourful packaging. Once I took it in my hand I found that the packaging was rather flimsy. For the price at which they are being sold, the packaging could have been better. There is a metallic case in the middle and transparent rickety caps on both the ends. The bullet of the lipstick seems wobbly and is thinner as compared to the normal lipstick bullets.
Next the name is mauve, but neither of the shades is closer to mauve. One of them is a frosty pink shade with shimmers and the other one is a creamy pink shade. The creamy lipstick is quite pigmented and one swipe gives you the required colour. The frosty lipstick on the other side provides sheer coverage. You can wear each shade separately or layer them for a more customized shade. These glide on easily on the lips. However if you go overboard with the swipes, it might start looking cakey. After 2 hours the formula starts to feel dry on the lips, so it is better that you have a lip balm underneath. These lipsticks also accentuate the fine lines. The only way to reduce that is to exfoliate the lips properly.
There is no smudging or bleeding, but the formula stains a bit; not the frosty pink, but the rosy pink leaves behind a tint of pink colour, which actually looks good. There is also a peculiar fragrance, which again is a problem for me. However, once on the lips it doesn’t bother much. The staying power of the lipsticks is around 4 hours. These can’t survive full meals. As I wrote earlier that the creamy pink leaves behind a pink stain, so after the meal your lips would only have a tint of rosy pink colour. The stain though comes off easily with a make up remover.
Pros of Maxfactor Flipstick Colour Effect Lipstick Boreal Mauve:
- No smudging, feathering or bleeding of the lipsticks.
- You can wear it in three different ways, both the shades on their own or both the shades together.
- The creamy rosy pink shade is quite pigmented.
Cons of Maxfactor Flipstick Colour Effect Lipstick Boreal Mauve:
- Feels a bit dry after 2 hours. A lip balm underneath is a must.
- Accentuates the fine lines.
- Packaging seems “low grade”, though the lipstick is not.
- The smell is a bit offending.
- Staying power could have been better.
- The name is misleading.
Would I repurchase/recommend Maxfactor Flipstick Colour Effect Lipstick Boreal Mauve?
No, at the price, I expect better formula, finish and packaging. Though, one can be experimental with these and create different looks; but at this price I would rather buy two different lipsticks with better features and create my own looks.
