Maybelline Baby Lips Dr Rescue Medicated Lip Balm Review

Maybelline Baby Lips Dr Rescue Medicated Lip Balm Review

Hello lovelies,

Happy Valentine’s Day! However, I believe our feelings and gestures are instinct and hence every day is Valentine’s Day, what say? This holds true for my hubby specially, he wouldn’t bother to celebrate the day as it is supposed to.  He is happy for its TGIF rather than planning for Valentine’s Day 😀 Since 3 years, we have been celebrating his b’day, my b’day, our anniversary on weekends irrespective of their original existence in a calendar year 😛 Thank God, Aadya’s birthday is an exception for which I bugged him to celebrate it on the same day! I hardly remember any event that we enjoyed or celebrated on the same day except my midnight surprises which are one-sided efforts.  Today, he has a big excuse that we need to take part in Aadya’s school get together, so better postpone Valentine’s Day on Saturday 😛 I know it sounds strange, even weird, but believe me, I like his logic behind weekend bashes, even I feel so lazy to plan any surprise on a weekday 😛 Anyway, let’s talk about my review today, which is an okay deal for me. I can only love it because its my first purchase from Maybelline’s Baby Lips range, a new Dr. Rescue Lip Balm from Maybelline Baby Lips series.  Please scroll down to know more about Maybelline baby lips Dr. rescue berry soft!!

Price:

$3.48 for 0.15 Oz (4.4 g), price may vary from store to store.

Ingredients:

Maybelline_Baby_Lips_Dr_Rescue_Medicated_Lip_Balm_2

Product Description:

No more basic lip balm.  Medicated care + 12 HR hydration. Soothes quickly with a hint of eucalyptus.  Cools sore lips with a touch of icy menthol.  In 6 new natural tints to even out lip tone for healthier-looking lips.

Packaging:

This berry tint balm comes in a plastic opaque bullet packaging like any other baby lips packaging. Since I do not own any baby lips  balm, I cannot compare the packaging, but more or less, it seems like the usual baby lips except for the fact that baby lips packaging seem more bright and popped up while Dr Rescue’s packaging is a pastel shade.  It strongly smells like Vicks nasal stick, you remember that white stick, right 😛 I used to keep it in my school bag; however, the scent fades within half an hour.  Overall, a simple, travel-friendly packaging for the price.

My Experience with Maybelline Baby Lips Dr Rescue Medicated Lip Balm:

Finally, you guys compelled me to try baby lips! I spotted them in one store and could not resist an urge to pick at least one of them. I wonder what’s the combo of pastel packaging with bright lip balms inside. I was totally confused with other shades, all were sealed, hence to play a safe blind game, I picked up Berry Soft.  This one seems to be a deep berry pink in bullet, but on lips, it turns out to be milky berry pink, slightly sheer.  I am impressed that this balm gives sheer color payoff, though it’s pigmentation is hardly for an hour.

I mean firstly, I was shocked to see a milky pink cast on my lips as it looks slightly unnatural, but after an hour, I noticed that the milky cast melted into a translucent berry pink tint which is okay for me. I felt it gave a juicy, hydrating sheen on my lips apart from the tint. It does contain eucalyptus leaf oil, icy menthol, hence I feel a cooling tingling sensation for half an hour which does not bother much.  On the contrary, I did not feel it has anything worth looking for.  Let me clear this, my lips are quite dry, courtesy the weather and low humidity.  I need a balm 24×7 to keep my lips soft and nourished apart from drinking 4-5 litres of water a day. Moreover, after comparing this baby lips Dr rescue with my Aveeno Lip Conditioner, I felt baby lips are just average for their results are quite slow. They lack SPF protection and the prominent tint might be an issue for some skin tones.

It failed to heal my lips even after 6 hours while Aveeno lip balm instantly melts my scaly skin.  It is only good for bedtime, but then, I fear it is tinted and full of chemicals while I need a soft, light medication as natural as possible. Moreover, I usually love natural balms which do not affect finishing of my lip color and hence this tinted balm may not be good when worn under certain lip colors, you know what I mean! It does repair chapped lips, but not as fast as the Aveeno one, hence I skip it unless I am sitting at home for long hours. I just feel like I wore an ordinary balm, it does not give any extraordinary baby lip feel, similar to what I used to imagine through baby lips reviews.  I don’t think it gave me 12 hours hydration because whenever I swipe my lips, they feel so scaly and patchy. I wonder if it would ever replace Maybelline Baby Lips.  For me, Dr rescue is an average balm, it cannot beat my Aveeno lip conditioning balm as of now! I would say if you are like me who wants nourishing, soft, hydrating balm with maximum benefits such as natural formulation, SPF protection, prolonged hydration, none or less pigmentation, then this one needs a serious skip from you.  If you just want to try it out for its sheer color payoff and tingling sensation, then go ahead, it won’t disappoint you at least!

Let’s sum up the pros and cons:

Pros of Maybelline Baby Lips Dr Rescue Medicated Lip Balm:

  • A medicated balm with eucalyptus leaf oil and icy menthol.
  • It is a tinted balm which gives sheer coverage apart from healing and repairing lips with time.
  • Comes in 6 different shades to choose from; however, this particular shade is slightly tricky on my skin tone.  It dissolves to form a juicy berry tint on the lips.
  • Gives a slightly cooling and tingling sensation for half an hour which might feel good in summers.
  • Simple, travel-friendly packaging.

Cons of Maybelline Baby Lips Dr Rescue Medicated Lip Balm:

  • Does not live up to its 12 hours of hydration claim unfortunately.
  • A strong Vicks scent, which might be a big turn off for some people.
  • The milky berry finishing soon dissolves and gives a translucent tint, not suitable for pigmented lips.
  • Imparts a tint which might affect the finishing when worn under lip colors.
  • Does not have SPF sunscreen protection except titanium dioxide as an inactive ingredient.

Overall, I think I wouldn’t purchase another balm from the Maybelline Baby Lips series for now because I need to finish Aveeno and now this Dr Rescue too! I would give it average rating for its functional properties, fragrance and packaging apart from pigmentation. What about you gals, are you still willing to get it?

Hihi 😛 my work and Valentine’s Day is incomplete without those teeny meeny supportive gestures.  She always has to help mommy with her pictures and tasks 😛  On a different note, by the time daddy pinged he is coming home early and feeling super hungry, mum prepared eggless muffins as a pre-Valentine’s gesture while Aadya is busy stirring maggi for her Mr. Valentine daddy 😛 Fingers crossed for a miracle this time 😀
