Back to the basics – Maybelline. While all high-end brands are in the market with the best brow products, be it Anastasia Beverly Hills or Benefit, drugstore brands have launched their own line for grooming eyebrows. Let’s talk about the Brow Satin that I recently got from Maybelline.

My Experience with Maybelline Brow Satin Define + Fill Duo Dark Brown:
Grooming brows has suddenly become mandatory now. After all, it makes one hell of a difference.
I recently tried the brow products from drugstore brands – MaxFactor, Maybelline and Rimmel. Maybelline has a couple of products for eyebrows, ranging from an eyebrow palette, eyebrow gel to pencils.
I picked up the Brow Satin – basically something quick for daily use. It is a newly launched product from Maybelline. It is available in 4 shades; I picked up the shade 4 – Dark Brown. The product has a brow crayon on one end and a brow powder on the other. There is no spoolie with this product, which is not the case with most eyebrow pencils these days. However, this one has eyebrow wax in the shape of the crayon and eyebrow filling powder as well.
This concept of a dual-ended product is a brilliant idea as it makes eyebrow grooming very convenient and easy. Hence you need just one product to complete your eyebrow grooming. The product is black in color with white description printed over it and caps on both ends. The product feels very compact and travel-friendly.
On one end, there is a thin crayon which is retractable. So no stress of sharpening the product and no unavoidable wastage as a consequence. Since the crayon is thin, it feels decently pointed, especially at the edges, to be able to draw faux hair or to draw outlines around the perimeter of the brows to give it a shape.
On first impressions, the crayon appeared dark grey in color. On application, it shows a decent dark brown which is a cool-toned one. The wax is neither very smooth nor much pigmented and needs multiple strokes to show evidently. It’s about decent but not comparable to my other brow products like the Anastasia Brow Wiz etc. Due to the crayon being thin, it is advised to use it carefully since excessive pressure tends to break the point.
Question – The description of the product says it’s a “gel pen”. Where is the gel and where is the pen? When we read “pen”, we expect a pen, don’t we? This is clearly a crayon! On the other end of the product, is a curvy-conical shaped sponge. This is actually the applicator for brow powder.
You need to swipe the sponge over the length of the brows to fill the brows in with a brow powder, so as to make them look thicker and give a fuller look. Again, the pigmentation needs to be built with multiple swipes. The concept of this sponge applicator is really cool and quite effective and easy to use too. This does not give precision, hence not advisable for those with very thin brows.
Question – The description of the product says it’s a “cream powder”. Where is the cream? So the idea is to fill the brows with the crayon and then blend with the powder. The end result is quite good and very natural looking brows. Overall, I think that if you already have decent eyebrows and need basic/minimum grooming, this one is a good pick. It is quite affordable compared to the other high-end ones and gives a natural result.
