Maybelline Color Sensational Rebel Bloom Lipstick in Rose Rush Review

Hello all,

I hauled quite a few lipsticks recently and today I am reviewing the Maybelline Color Sensational Rebel Bloom lipstick in Rose Rush. This range was launched by Maybelline a few months back and is specially being marketed for Spring 2015. Most of the shades in this range look quite bright in the bullet and hence I was a little hesitant to try them, but I finally succumbed and bought this shade. Read on to find out if I liked Rose Rush or not.

Product Description:

Super-saturated pigments take fresh picked pastels to a new bright. Never dull, washed out or shy. Honey nectar adds a sumptuous feel.

My Experience with Maybelline Color Sensational Rebel Bloom Lipstick in Rose Rush:

Packaging:  This lipstick comes in the standard Color Sensational lipstick packaging – a sleek metallic tube with a rectangular cap. The “Rebel Bloom” range has a bright mauve-y pink cap. The sticker at the bottom of the tube is color coded to help identify the lipstick if you have multiple of these lipsticks. The packaging is sturdy and looks classy.

Shade: Rose Rush looks a beautiful warm red with orange undertones in the tube, but on my lips, it is more orange than red. Nonetheless, the shade looks lovely on the lips and is one of those shades which instantly brightens up your face. It is a shade very suitable for spring/summer. Despite being a dark color, it does not end up as neon-ish on the lips and hence most skin tones should be able to wear this shade.

Texture, Finish, Pigmentation:  The texture of the lipstick was a surprise for me. I was expecting it to be a soft crème lipstick, but the texture is more like a balm. You need to apply slight pressure when applying the lipstick; this is not an unpleasant dragging, but just wanted to let you know that the lipstick does not glide on the lips. This is not a super moisturizing lipstick, but at the same time, it does not feel drying either.  The finish of the lipstick is a beautiful glossy finish.  The lipstick applies a bit sheer. Even though one swipe is enough to cover pigmented lips, the color never becomes too intense even after multiple swipes. This will prove to be a boon for those who are hesitant to try out bright shades like orange, but if you are expecting a deep intense color pay-off, this lipstick is not for you.

The staying power of the lipstick is average – it stays put for around 3-4 hours. It transfers to cups and glasses and does not survive a full meal, but it leaves a slight stain behind.

To summarize, the Maybelline Color Sensational Rebel Bloom in Rose Rush is a beautiful warm orange-y red shade with a glossy finish and a decent formula at an affordable price.
