My Experience with Maybelline Color Sensational Satin Eyeshadow Palette – Mysterious Mauve:
Packaging: The eye shadow palette comes in a small cute square shaped box enclosed inside a cardboard box. The actual box has a clear window like a cap which helps to identify the color easily. It comes with a tiny dual ended sponge applicator which I don’t prefer to use. But, the small ends work nicely to apply the eye shadows on the inner corner of my eyes. I like this small travel-friendly and pretty packaging.
Shade: This palette contains five shades which are really good to create different eye makeup looks. Though it bears the name Mysterious Mauve still, all the shades have a purple undertone to it. I feel there is a less variety of shades in this palette. The three violet shades look almost similar when worn on the eyes but still, the colors look beautiful and these shades are nice for a soft spring or summer day makeup look. It has a natural soft touch finish which will suit a lot of skin tones. Now, let’s talk about the individual shades.
Shade A: It is a nice purple toned, light highlighting shade with micro shimmer particles in it. This shade is decently pigmented.
Shade B: It is also a light violet shade with micro shimmers in it. This color looks soft and natural on the eyes. It is less pigmented and doesn’t show up properly on the eyes.
Shade C: It is a little dark violet shade but, it has a better pigmentation compared to the shade B. It also needs a few more swipes for the true color to show up but still, it works nicely to define the crease.
Shade D: This shade is the darkest one in this palette. It’s a dark mauve toned purple shade that I prefer to use at the outer corner of my eyes. This is almost a matte shade but it is a less pigmented one.
Shade E: This is a very pretty summery purple shade with fine shimmers in it. It looks nice on the lids and it is a decently pigmented shade.
Quality and Texture: The eyeshadows have a smooth soft texture that blends easily on the eyes and never looks patchy or chalky on the lids. Its fine texture looks natural and the shimmers don’t look overpowering on the eyes. It has a silky shiny finish and a few shades have little fallout issues. But, the biggest problem is, it has a poor pigmentation which feels a little difficult to work with. So, I prefer to apply those less pigmented shades in a wet condition and by doing so, they work quite better and looks nice on the eyes.
Maybelline claims that it provides a 3D effect to my eyes but, it can’t provide that nice 3D look like their old palette does. This new satin range can’t provide that glittery 3D effect but, it looks really pretty on the eyes. It also doesn’t crease or settle into fine lines. I have watery eyes and it never looks messy too.
Staying Power: It stays on my lids nicely for almost 5-6 hours without a primer. So, I feel it will stay better with a primer underneath. It never moves from its place and the shimmers don’t look messy. It needs a makeup remover to remove the shades easily. Overall, it is an average palette with lesser pigmentation. I feel that the ‘Sensuous pink’ palette is better than this one. I have 4 palettes from this range and I had noticed that initially these shades look less pigmented but once you swipe it a few times, it works better.
