Maybelline Colorsensational Lipstick Dusty Rose + Fungal Alert!!!!

Maybelline Colorsensational Moisture Extreme Lipstick in Dusty Rose (811) and a Fungal Alert!!!!

A Review, a warning and a request!

This was my first ever lipstick purchase along with Lakme 129. When I swatched it in the shop, it was a nice mauvy-pink shade, which was what I was looking for, but when I tried it on at home, it turned out way too dark on my lips. On my mom, whose lips are way more pigmented than mine, it turns a lighter shade. I just don’t understand this shade, okay, anyway that’s just me!

The colour is mauvy-pink. It is a nice wearable shade. I think it would look very natural on darker skin tones, but still suit lighter and medium skin tones too. The pigmentation is excellent and the colour shows up in just one swipe. The colour is also very glossy and moisturizing for a lipstick.

Maybelline Dusky Rose

The texture of the lipstick is smooth. It is also very light and there is no heaviness after applying. The color doesn’t bleed and there’s no need to use a lip liner unless you want to use it to increase the staying power. It is like you’ve applied a very thin layer of Vaseline petroleum jelly on your lips. This lipstick has the exact same feel on the lips.

That being said, it also wears off really quickly like Vaseline 😉 I haven’t tried it with a lip liner or a base, but on its own, it has very poor staying power. On me, it lasts barely an hour or two and that is, if I don’t drink or eat anything. Also, in a very short time, the color lightens up drastically and becomes a faint orange so you have to constantly re-apply to keep the color looking bright.

The lipstick is cased in a tube which I quite like. The tube is pretty sturdy and the lipstick doesn’t break easily. I always twist up only a few inches of lipstick while using it, so that there is no chance of any breakage happening. I find that doing this is not enough to prevent Lakme lipsticks from melting and breaking. So, this is a definite plus with Maybelline Moisture Extreme lipsticks.

What I Love about Maybelline Moisture Extreme in Dusky Rose:

– Excellent pigmentation.
-Smooth application and light texture.
– It’s very moisturizing and doesn’t dry out lips at all.
– Lipstick doesn’t melt or break, even in summers.
-Doesn’t bleed at all irrespective of how many layers you pile on.
– The affordable price of Rs. 220 and Rs. 198 if you buy it in beauty shops.
– Good, sturdy packaging. No problems with the cap not closing.

What I Don’t Love about Maybelline Moisture Extreme Lipstick in Dusty Rose:

– Staying power on its own is ridiculously poor, so you might have to try it with a lip liner to make it last a decent amount of time.
– The color fades very quickly to a light tint.

Warning:

I could have mentioned this in the review itself, but I wanted to make a strong point with pictures. Okay, so I have reviewed this shade and I also reviewed another shade, Bronzy Orange a while ago. They were fine around that time and a while after. Recently, I took them out of my makeup box to admire them (Yes, I am weird that way) and to my horror, they were spoiled. Yes, there was mould on them. Yuck! I was horrified and opened up all my lipsticks, including My Mahogany from the colorsensational range, but only the moisture extreme ones were spoiled. Even Lakme lipsticks and a 10-year-old Revlon belonging to my mom were unaffected.

Let me emphasize these facts:

-I placed them in a plastic box away from any humidity (so, it wasn’t my carelessness!).
-The two shades were bought in different shops on different days (so, it wasn’t a bad piece!).
-These were placed in the same compartment and same box as My Mahogany, Lakme 129 and Revlon Mocha Rose. Yet, only these got spoiled.
-I googled and found people on other blogs mentioning the same problem of “fungal infections” with these lippies.

Here are some pictures:

Top:  The white fuzz all over the lipstick is fungus.

Bottom:  Black fungus all over, especially on the top.

So, I recommend you think twice before buying these lipsticks, especially if you live in humid areas and if you already own them, please be careful and check before putting them on your lips. (I almost put the bronzy orange one on my lips because the molding isn’t as obvious as on the dusky rose one.) Definitely not me, it’s MAYBELLINE!

I so wanted the coral pink one, but now, I don’t know if I can take the risk I feel cheated, BUY AT YOUR OWN RISK!

The Request:

Could you guys recommend a longer-lasting dupe for Lakme enrich 129, the oh-so popular peachy brown shade? Any texture, matte/creamy will do, but something that will last for more than ½ hour, even a lip gloss is okay. Please help!

  4. You’re welcome guys!
I had to let you all know. I mean it’s cheap at 220/- but that isn’t cheap if it spoils in a few months. It’s not a good investment at all 🙁

  5. awwww manu…..is dat really fungus…i have so many maybelline lippies….nw i m scared weather to use dem or not….. :chewnails :chewnails :chewnails :chewnails …..is this happening to only maybelline lippies or wid other brands too….or is dis because of d climate ur staying in ?:) ?:)

  6. great review!
And      😯 😯 😯   FUNGUS?! YUCK! :yuck: :yuck: :yuck:
:thanks: so much for the warning! I better check my lustrous lilac one now. :chewnails

      1. Nupurdi…Bhagwan kare ki ek din neend me tum fridge tak chocies lene jao…aur neend me hee sare cream blushes kha jao….aur lippies bhi. :jalwa: :jalwa: :jalwa:

  7. @ Tina, It’s happening only with maybelline moisture extreme ones. My colorsensational ones are fine.. until now at least. I think it has to do with the slight liquidy kind of texture. It is more likely to affect your lipsticks if you stay in a humid area but even then, my other lippies are fine. Only moisture extreme ones. It may or may not happen but I’ve read comments on other blogs also about this problem so I know it is not just happening with me :-/

    1. I have coral pink in moisture extreme wala collection…but its okay till nw…me happy….but still i will keep a watch on my lippies nw

Can any one suggest that hw to keep cream blushs safely…i toh alwayz keep it in my make box that i got from revlone….should i keep it in refrigerator kya??? :chewnails

  8. urs got spoiled.. yess :yikes: :yikes: .. but i also hav 1 frm this range tht i bought around 7 mnths bak but its perfectly gud.. i keep it in my dresser cabinet alongwith all other lippies. its quite s gud as new..

  9. @ Nupur-Good idea! I think I’ll do that from now..but keeping stuff in the fridge doesn’t change the textures, kya?
@Taps-It’s only a chance…so it may not happen to your lippies :haanji: Maybe, we should all start keeping our lippies in the fridge like Nupur..but my favourite bronzy orange shade is spoiled and I’m heart-broken :waaa:

  10. @Nids-I’m only warning everyone about this possibility. It may or may not happen with you. Especially for people who live in Mumbai (or other humid places) like me..so that they can be aware of this problem and maybe, prevent it by storing lippies in the fridge. Ultimately, if the lippies are sold in Mumbai, then I should be able to use them in Mumbai without any special precautions, na? Otherwise, it is not worth buying. That is how I feel 🙂

  11. Guys, pleeej, pleeej help me with a longer-lasting lipstick dupe for lakme 129, na? 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀

  12. oooppsssssssss………..it seems horroble……. :yikes: :yikes: from i will keep mine in fridge only……….. :pigtail: :pigtail:

  13. Thanks for the review-!!!! My Moisture extreme in Chestnut caught fungus too !!!!! Its like black filaments all over it!!! I went nuts when I saw it-because I never keep lippys open or in unhygienic places-there are always inside my wardrobe-and no lakme/lotus/revlon stuff ever behaved like this 🙁 🙁 🙁 Only thing is that the lippy remained unused for about 3-4 months-I was real sad when I had to dispose off the half-finished lippy in such beautiful shade because of this stupid reason 🙁

    1. I feel the same, yaar! 🙁
I didn’t keep mine unused for long but still this happened and frankly, even if we decide not to use our lippies for a while, this shouldn’t happen, na? Not worth the money, if we have to continuously use their product to prevent it from spoiling. Then, what will happen to people who own hundreds of lippies….. ?:) 😀 😀 😀 😀 😆 :lol2:

      1. bad bad bad :spank: :spank: :spank: -I dont think we can spray antifungal something on our lippys!!!!!!!!!!! well I think-wiping their surface sometime with a clean tissue can help-but then considering I have about 30 lippys -whoz goinna do this cleanup every few months?? Maybelline should be reported about this :pissedoff: :pissedoff: :pissedoff:

  14. fungus on a lipstick 😯 😯 never imagined

Nice review and pretty shade, Manu. :thanks:

Out of the line, but just letting u gals know… if u wanna check out my review on a Hair touch-up stick on Filipina blog. Its an amazing discovery for me. :high5:

  17. hmm thanx for review i hav checked mine to and i hav the coral one my vanity and i absolutely luv the shade :jaiho: ..and mine is easily more than 5 to 6 months old…..but no fungus..might be they hav gotten in contact with something while u :green: :green: applied them…..
i live in mumbai so i dun think it can get more humid than this.but ya now will definately thing again before buying them…but i dun know i some how love the feeling of moisture extreme….

  18. manu…I also read that few ppl did face problems with this…I dunno why but not all get affected..I have three..just hoping they dont..until now toh they are fine..

  19. Awww this seems so badd.. i just recently bought a colorsensational lippie and was really looking forward to buy some more..but i think i should stay away from these…. thnk god i bought only one..

    1. I don’t think there’s a problem with the colorsensational ones. Only the moisture extreme ones. I think it’s because of the liquidy texture. Colorsensational ones are creamy and the ones that I have are in good condition 🙂

      1. I was thinking of buying some moisture extremes as i read thay are better pigmented than colorsensational ones.. but will delete tham form my list.. :spank: :spank:

  20. why spankkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk :spank: :spank: :spank: :spank: :spank: :spank: :spank: :spank: :spank: :spank: :spank: :spank: :spank: :spank: :spank: you dayaannn :daayan: :daayan: :daayan: :daayan: :daayan:

  22. Thanks Manu that u highlighted this problem with maybelline lipsticks ……one of the lipsticks i gt frm maybelline was due to expire in 2012 n it caught fungus same with another shade of moisture extreme lipstick… :pissedoff: i absolutely love maybelline lipsticks bt i think that maybelline shud improve their quality coz its sheer waste of money fr its consumers :hunterwali: :hunterwali: :hunterwali: :hunterwali:

  23. hey manu.. I had bought a moisture extreme lippie for my mom in 2008.. After 4-5 months she too compained of this fungi.. N blasted me for buying cheap makeup stuff for her.. Back then i had no clue abt makeup n lakme n revlon were the only brands i had heard of :chewnails

last yr i picked up some colorsensational lipsticks for my wedding trousseau collection.. N i love them all.. :yahoo:

so i guess the prob is wit moisture extreme lippies like u said :specs:

  24. :happydance: :happydance: :happydance:  mee lucky :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: no Mayb lippie yt in my lot :happydance:
