Maybelline ColorShow Lipstick in Orange Icon Review

Maybelline ColorShow Lipstick in Orange Icon Review

By Shashikala Reddy

Hello girls,

Guess almost all of you out there have tried at least one of the Maybelline Colorshow nail enamels and have been awed by their quality and staying power and now Maybelline has launched lipsticks in the same Colorshow category – of which one shade I am reviewing today.    What’s intriguing is that I couldn’t find any information about this range either on the US website nor on the Indian one, so I cannot tell you about the company claims about this particular range, whatever description is actually my experience with the product.

Maybelline ColorShow Lipstick in Orange Icon

There’s a lot of shade selection, especially in reds and plums, but not many in pinks, and available in various finishes. I bought this particular shade “Orange Icon” looking at the label only because I’m sort of hooked onto various shades of oranges.  Nothing spectacular about the packaging, seems like a cheap plastic black case with basic color coding in the center to denote the color family, not much to expect at such a price any way.

Price:

These are priced at Rs. 299 each, so pretty affordable if you want to try many shades.

My Experience with Maybelline ColorShow Lipstick in Orange Icon:

This shade is very similar to “Vibrant Mandarin” from the Vivids range, looks orange but swipes coral, so all you coral lovers out there, this is a pretty bright coral for you to own.  It has more of pink undertones than yellow undertones, but overall, it’s a very vibrant shade to brighten up the face, suits fair and medium skin tones.

Texture wise, it is very smooth on application, there’s no tugging and it’s quite creamy, but not too creamy where it melts or breaks during applications, just the perfect consistency.  It has a nice glossy finish, but after an hour, it loses its glossiness, but neither does it look dry, doesn’t transfer much, so no need of touch ups unless you want it to look freshly applied.

Pigmentation is good with a single swipe, but you definitely need a second to deliver that perfect pop of color, but multiple swipes don’t look cakey either.  You don’t need a separate lip balm for this lipstick as it very well hydrates the lips.  I have dry lips and I don’t use a lip balm while using this lipstick and my lips stay hydrated all through the day.  I don’t think all the lipsticks would be hydrating as this particular shade because a few other shades were frosty, so I can’t comment on the entire range.

This lipstick has a kind of fruity smell which I hate, I prefer my lip products to be fragrance free, but the smell fades away after a few minutes after application, so it’s not much bothersome except for the first few minutes, but I feel most you will actually like this smell, ,it’s just me with a sensitive nose (in fact I hate all cosmetics which are perfumed).

Maybelline ColorShow Lipstick in Orange Icon

This lipstick stays on me for up to 6 hours with meals and leaves behind a coral pink tint which looks good which just stays on and on.It fades evenly without any patchiness and leaves behind a dark stain at the end of the day (most of the lipsticks stain my lips even if it doesn’t stain others) which has to be removed with a remover, I seem to reaching out to this lipstick almost everyday. Overall, it’s a pretty good lipstick with awesome pigmentation and good staying power, worth a try.

Pros of Maybelline ColorShow Lipstick in Orange Icon:

  • Bright coral pink shade.
  • Creamy texture.
  • Wide shade selection.
  • Moisturizing, no need of a lip balm.
  • Good pigmentation.
  • Doesn’t settle in lines.
  • Leaves a beautiful tint.

Cons of Maybelline ColorShow Lipstick in Orange Icon:

  • Stains the lips, not much of a con, but I don’t have anything to say negative about this lipstick.
  • Doesn’t swatch orange as it looks like in the bullet, not much of a con again, it’s a beautiful shade and who’s complaining anyway.

I would definitely repurchase this again but only after trying out the other shades.

In oranges, I have only MAC Morange which I harldy use *sad* because it is way too bright for me.

    lip swatch is really pretty.

pretty good for everyday use… indian market doesnt have so many good orange lipsticks.. dnt know why.. even though they will suit most indians here.

  6. What a coincident, 2 days back I purchased the same shade. I too loved the shade but I felt that staying power is not so good and btw at that price range we can not expect more too. anyhow, I may purchase few more shades from that range.
    Great post.

  7. Finally got this shade…The shade is really pretty….not orange but coral or peachy pink exactly what I wanted..I’m glad I ordered it because shade din’t disappoint me.
