Maybelline Dream Bouncy Blush – Candy Coral Review

By Shweta H.

Hello IMBBians,

This is my first post for IMBB, but I have read and trusted the reviews on IMBB for years. So, I am very excited about this post.  I have a new-found obsession with blushes, and thanks to all the amazing articles on IMBB, I have realized that for my dry skin, cream blushes would probably the best choice. I did the same mistakes of a novice initially, with buying powder blushes, which made my cheeks look paper-like dry and made them appear a little flaky 🙁  I was a little hesitant about buying the Maybelline blush initially as I wasn’t sure I can still identify the right shade, but then the low price kind of lured me in to at least give it a try.  So, here it is – Maybelline Dream Bouncy Blush in Candy Coral.

Maybelline Dream Bouncy Blush Candy Coral

My Experience with Maybelline Dream Bouncy Blush – Candy Coral:

Packaging: Cutest packaging ever! The biggest plus point is that I can see the shade through the transparent lid. It’s a small pack and hence easy to carry in your purse without much of a space issue. Though the plastic cover might appear flimsy, it’s pretty durable and the pack didn’t open even once when I carried it all around with me over the weekend. When you press the blush, it kind of makes a dent in the product, which is back to normal after some time. Also, after using a brush with the blush, you can smooth over the blush with your fingers and it appears brand new. I wonder why Maybelline added a bounce to a product, but it makes it just a little more interesting. I don’t see any value being added by the “bounce” factor.

I applied the blush after I applied a BB cream and set it using a compact powder. I also used Maybelline Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser Primer on the sides of my face. I used a stippling brush to apply it on my cheek bones, but it is easy to apply even with your fingers.

The blush is really a lightweight and smooth formula and kind of mousse-like, which is easily blendable on the cheeks. The claim is true, it blends like a cream, but looks kind of like a powder. I mean, it’s not as creamy and doesn’t appear oily once applied.

I had to use a little more product for it to show up for the photos, but for everyday use, less is more.  I have only used NYX cream blushes and then a Maybelline powder blush so far, but this is my favorite blush till date. It really is lightweight, you hardly feel as if you have applied any product.

The color pigmentation for the “Candy Coral” shade is pretty high. I think some of the lighter shades might require a lot of product for a buildup.

One more reason why I love this blush over others that I have tried so far is for the fact that even though there’s a light shimmer to it when you swatch, on your cheeks, it gives almost a matte finish. The shine is not so visible and therefore this is a perfect blush for wearing to office. I have used this blush daily for more than a week and it does add a certain glow to your cheeks, without being shiny or shimmery.

Since I have dry cheeks (combination skin), the blush stayed on for more than 4-5 hours. I had to touch up a little post lunch for it to last an entire day. This definitely doesn’t last an entire day and I doubt it will last long for someone with an oily skin. Maybe some powder might help! Also, since it’s a small round pack with no mirror or applicator, for retouches one might need to use their fingers. I don’t tend to carry brushes to the office, so sometimes I use fingers as I love to reapply it.

Overall, I am in love with the texture, the ease of applying, and the matte look of the blush. For less than $10, I think it’s a pretty good product for daily use.

This has basically become my daily work-day makeup routine.

Pros of Maybelline Dream Bouncy Blush – Candy Coral:

  • Lightweight formula, a beautiful smooth texture.
  • Blends easily.
  • Good color pigmentation, as far as this shade is concerned.
  • No shine or shimmer, so perfect for office-wear.
  • Travel-friendly packaging.

Cons of Maybelline Dream Bouncy Blush – Candy Coral:

  • Lack of availability in India. Maybelline has a cheeky glow blush range, but this one is not yet available in India, at least the site doesn’t say so.
  • The “Bounce” is actually just some air pockets, which after using the product a lot, kind of disappears. The product texture is still the same though.
  • Staying power is low, doesn’t last all day long, no more than 4-5 hours.
  • No blush brush, or a mirror. It’s a small pack, which can be a pro or a con based on how you plan to use it.

IMBB Rating:
4.5/5
