Hope you are having a great day! Today I am reviewing a gel eyeliner from Maybelline. This is the Maybelline Eye Studio Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner In Eggplant/Aubergine 956.

My experience with Maybelline Eye Studio Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner In Eggplant:

I have been wanting to try a purple eyeliner for some time now! The Maybelline Eye Studio Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner In Eggplant seemed to be a good choice. The black variation of this is really good. I was looking for the same impact with this one in Eggplant.

The gel eyeliner comes in a small glass pot with a screw-on lid. You also get a small, flat bristled brush for application. Unfortunately, this eyeliner is not as pigmented as the black one. With one swipe, you do not get the full intensity of the color in the pot. You can build it up with multiple swipes, without any issue. But you will still not achieve the same color as in the pot.

The color by itself is a really pretty plum purple. The eyeliner has some shimmer, which I do not mind with this shade of purple. But I did want the color to be more intense.

The gel liner is really creamy and goes on very smooth. I do try to build up the color with multiple swipes, as I feel it does not show up much on the lids, otherwise. Once you apply this on the lids, you need to wait for a few minutes for this to set, before say, curling your lashes or something. Once it is set, it does not transfer.

The brush is very convenient and firm enough to use and helps apply the color neatly. You can draw thick or thin lines with this brush. I have applied it thickly in the eye swatches so that the color is seen better. Do remember to clean the brush immediately after using, else the gel liner left on the brush would harden up, making the cleaning really difficult!

The eyeliner claims to be smudge proof. It is, to some extent, but not totally. I was able to smudge the swatches on my hand by rubbing it a bit hard. Of course, we will not be using the same kind of pressure to rub our eyes! So it is not so bad!

The eyeliner lasted on my lids the whole day without any fading or flaking or smudging. It does claim to be a waterproof eyeliner. The swatch on my hands required a make-up remover to clean up. But the eyeliner on my lids came out completely with just soap and water. I guess that is due to my extremely oily lids!

Overall, I like the formula of this eyeliner and the color. I only wish it was a more intense purple. With intensity of the color as it is, it does not give a very defined/dramatic look to the eyes.

Cons of Maybelline Eye Studio Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner In Eggplant:

 Pigmentation could have been better.
 Requires a few minutes to set.
 Not totally smudge proof as it claims – can smudge if you rub your eyes very hard.

It is a pretty purple color but not very intense. Get it only if you are looking for a soft look.
