My Experience with Maybelline Facestudio Master Contour V-Shape Duo Stick 01 Light:

This whole concept of having a duo stick – which contains both the highlighter and the contour – impressed me and I was eagerly waiting to try this one. After watching a lot of makeup tutorials I decided to buy a contour stick. I was looking for a stick packaging in particular.

I do have a lot of powder products for contouring. I also have a cream palette from NYX, which fares well, but I have to use a brush to apply the product on my face. With a stick, the application process looks easier and you’re done with the job of application in just one go. And, you can easily blend the product afterwards.

What’s great about this stick is that both – the highlighter and the contour shade – come in one stick together. One half of the stick has the highlighter and the other half of the stick has the contour shade. This kind of packaging makes it a travel-friendly product. You can carry just one stick along for highlighting and contouring purposes.

To tell you more about the packaging, it’s a black colored stick or you can say it looks like a fat pencil that comes with a transparent cap attached to it. You need to twist the stick to get the product out, just like a lipstick. However, I’ve noticed that with a couple of usages the twist function has become loose and I have to twist it multiple times to get the product out.

These sticks are available in two shades: 01 Light and 02 Medium. Since I have a fair skin tone I choose the ‘Light’ shade. Darker and dusky skin tones may opt for the ‘Medium’ shade. It glides easily on the skin and I very much like its texture too. The texture is smooth and gets easily applied on the skin.

It has a hint of shine and doesn’t feel sticky at all. It blends easily into skin without looking patchy. I use my Sephora multi-texture sponge to blend this out, and it blends the product with ease. For cream formulas, I always feel sponges work better than brushes.

Though it looks like a pencil and ends with a curve on the top you can only use it by sliding either cream highlight or cream contour at a time. The stick is very convenient and comfortable to use.

When I first applied the contouring shade on my face I quite liked the shade. After blending it looked good on me and defined a curve below my cheekbones. But, I am not very impressed with the shade of the highlighter. When I try to apply this over a full coverage foundation this shade doesn’t show any difference.

It is just a little lighter than my foundation and looks a bit similar to my foundation shade. Also, it’s a pale beige shade with a little tint of white. This highlighter doesn’t look great after application. It’s a very subtle highlighter. The effects are not very prominent. I wish it had micro shimmers or a hint of gold or champagne to it.

Since it’s very subtle it gives a very natural effect on the skin. However, it doesn’t last a very long time. It fades completely within a couple of hours and the staying power really disappoints me.
