I recently bought my first purple eyeliner; I have been wanting to try one for a very long time, but was kind of skeptical because whichever purples I came across were either too bright for me or were out of my budget (being in college, drugstore brands are what I go for mostly). So recently, I stumbled upon this mauve/purple eyeliner by Maybelline from the recently-launched Hyper Glossy Electrics range and I thought of giving this a try since it fit the bill totally. The shade is called “Violet Volt.” Read on to know more about it.

My Take on Maybelline Hyper Glossy Electrics Eyeliner in Violet Volt:
Packaging: The Hyper glossy Electrics eyeliners have a very decent and sturdy packaging. The packaging of hyper glossy electrics liners is very similar to that of hyperglossy regular eyeliners. The packaging is slender, tiny and triangular in shape. The bottle is mauve in color since that is the color of the eyeliner inside it; which is a smart idea since it helps identifying the liners from your stash when you are in a hurry and have different colors of liners from the same range. The brush handle is long and black in color, along with being sleek that makes the grip easier on the brush handle. The brush closes tightly and the packaging is of good quality material. The eyeliner is spill-proof and the bottle is sturdy and since it is so sleek, it is also travel friendly.
Shade: The shade Violet Volt is a muted violet/mauve shade. It is not a very bright/ bold electric purple color. People who haven’t tried any purple liners yet and want to give them a try (like I did), can definitely try this Violet Volt shade as it is not very over the top. The eyeliner doesn’t look too bold and it doesn’t look too dull either. The eyeliner has a glossy finish like the name suggests, “hyper glossy.” The shade doesn’t add any pop of color to the face as such because it is a very muted mauve color. The eyeliner also contains minute purple shimmer particles that are not visible as such, but only under broad sunlight. Because of the glossy finish, the eyeliner gives sheen to the eyelids and the sheen remains as it is until the liner is removed completely from the eyelids.
Texture: The eyeliner “Violet Volt: belongs to the “Hyperglossy Electrics” range which is an extension of the regular hyper glossy range, so the texture of both is the same. The texture is neither too thick, nor too runny. The texture of the brush is also pretty nice, it has very thin bristles that are perfect for controlling the thickness of the eyeliner on the eyelids. The eyeliner needs good 3-4 swipes even when applying thin lines; it applies very smoothly on eyelids without much tugging or pulling, though it can look a bit flaky at times. The eyeliner has a quick dry formula and dries in about 30 seconds which is good because you don’t have to wait with your eyes closed for it to dry up; but it is also a con since it dries so fast, so you have to use a makeup remover if the application is not right in the first go.
Longevity: The eyeliner stays on me for 5 hours only, I think that’s because I have oily eyelids and it’s a dull color. This eyeliner is not waterproof and can be removed very easily with water only. Also, this eyeliner is not smudge proof and if you have a habit of touching/rubbing your eyes then that can be a problem.
Pros of Maybelline Hyper Glossy Electrics Eyeliner in Violet Volt:
- Sleek, travel-friendly packaging.
- Muted mauve color, even fit for everyday wear.
- The formula is nice, this liner doesn’t irritate my eyes like some other liners do.
- Smooth and thin bristled brush to control the thickness of the liner.
- Quick dry formula; dries in less than 30 seconds.
- The liner has a glossy finish.
Cons of Maybelline Hyper Glossy Electrics Eyeliner in Violet Volt:
- People who prefer matte eyeliners can skip it.
- It’s a pretty dull color so people who want a proper bright purple, can skip this.
- This particular color of purple doesn’t suit me, so it’s a con for me.
- The liner can appear flaky if not applied properly.
- It’s not water resistant or smudge proof.
- People who have dark eyelids can skip it because chances are that it won’t show on their eyelids at all because it is kind of dull.
- Needs good 3-4 swipes for thin layer of eyeliner too.
Would I Repurchase Maybelline Hyper Glossy Electrics Eyeliner in Violet Volt?
Since it doesn’t suit me that much, I’ll skip it. I recommend it to those who like glossy eyeliners, purple in particular.
It’s an everyday wear kind of eyeliner, not too bright or bold, with a nice texture. People who like purples, can give this a try.
