I recently lost my smudge brush and while searching for smudge brushes on the internet, I chanced upon a cute little pick that I am going to review today – it’s the Maybelline Line Express Eyeliner.  It is available in three shades and I am going to review the one called “Soft Black.”

Packaging:

It is a nice packaging with the liner which comes in a pamphlet kind of packaging with all product details, covered by a plastic cover, like most Maybelline eye lining products.  If you open it, you will get to see a cute little pencil, probably wooden with the liner on one end and the smudger on the other.  The body is a beautiful black with name of the product etched in bright silver letters.  The tip of the liner and the brush are both secured by transparent caps.  It looks quite decent overall.

My Experience with Maybelline Line Express Eyeliner in Soft Black:

I am quite impressed with the product, it’s a small package of all things good.  It is a pencil liner, which does not cause any irritation if applied on the water line.  This is very important to me as I have eyes of a two year old, sensitive to a lot of products.  It even doubles up as a smudge brush, the tip of the smudge brush is like those felt tip liners, very soft and sponge-y.

The pigmentation is not quite dark, it may be due to the fact that I have the liner in the shade “Soft Black,” and hence the black lacks that dark black tinge.  Otherwise, it is super creamy and glides like a dream.  It is soft to your eyes and does not cause any redness upon swiping hard on the upper lids.  The staying power is good and does not smudge and make you look like a ghost after a while, which is a very nice break from many a pencil liners that I have used.  It is one perfect little thing to give yourself an easy smokey eye look in three easy steps – swipe, dab and smudge.  It is petite and hence will take its place to glory even in a clutch.  However, a lot of product might go to waste while sharpening, which makes me feel that it would have been a great product had it been a retractable one with the built-in smudge brush.

• A lot of product gets lost from tip sharpening.

I would certainly buy it once again, but this time I will go for the Ebony black shade for the darkest of black.
