Maybelline Moisture Extreme Lipstick Natural Rosewood Review

Maybelline Moisture Extreme Lipstick in 670 Natural Rosewood Review

I know what you’re thinking? Oh my god, what a hypocrite! She was the one who posted about how these lipsticks were prone to fungus and now, she’s posting a review on yet another of these. Ok, here’s the thing. There are two reasons why I bought these lipsticks again. Firstly, I wanted to take advantage of the Maybelline offer of ‘Buy worth 1500/- and get a free vanity case’. Secondly, I really, really wanted the very popular shade Coral Pink from this range. I purchased a few of the Colorsensational lipsticks and lip glosses, but the bill didn’t come to 1500/- because I was buying from a beauty store and there’s a 10% discount on all items all the time. So, I went ahead and checked out the Coral Pink shade. In the beginning, I was a little hesitant to buy it because it seemed too bright. So, I checked some of the other shades. That’s when I swatched the one I’m reviewing today. It seemed like a brown with pink undertone. I thought it would be a nice MLBB shade and picked it up. But, after coming home, I realized that it was more pink than I thought it would be.

Later, when I was clicking pictures for this review, I realized that this lipstick is not part of the Colorsensational range. They only have “Moisture Extreme” written on them whereas the others have “Colorsensational Moisture Extreme” written on them . So, I guess these are part of the older stock or something. This is the only difference, though. The formula and the packaging are all the same and I checked the expiry date before purchasing so no problems with that.

Here are some pictures of the product:

Natural Rosewood / Bois de Rose Natural

The lipstick swatched on the back of my hand

Colour: It’s a little tricky to describe. It’s a pink colour with a hint of brown and a slightly prominent rose, almost red undertone. If you swatch it on your hand, it is very prominently pink. But the rosy red undertone becomes visible when applied on pigmented lips. It’s definitely an easy-to-wear everyday shade for most skin tones. It has a bit of shimmer which is visible only in the tube. On the lips, it is almost non-existent.

Pros
– Nice everyday shade that will suit a lot of different skin tones.
-Great pigmentation in a single swipe.
-Doesn’t bleed outside the lips. No need for a lip liner.
– Moisturizing formula that doesn’t dry lips.
-Sturdy packaging.
– Very reasonably priced at Rs. 220.
-A lot of beautiful and wearable shades to choose from in this range.

Cons
– Prone to fungus, especially in humid areas like Mumbai. If you live in a humid area, either don’t purchase it or store it in the fridge when you’re not using it. Also, wipe the tip of the lipstick after every use.
– Poor staying power. Will last an hour and a half max. Lighter shades don’t leave behind tint.
– Not very attractive packaging

Rating: 3/5
Conclusion: This shade is great for everyday wear. The lipsticks from this range are extremely affordable and available in lots of wearable colours. Just take extra care of them if you live in a humid area. If you’re looking for good staying power in your lipsticks, then give these a miss. But on the whole, these are moisturizing, smooth lipsticks available in a wide range of wearable colours. This is a good range of lipsticks to experiment with, especially if you want to try out new colours without breaking the bank.

  1. Nice review Manu.. I avoid maybelline but I guess Lotus has a very similar shade in rosewood.
I have the same problem in getting MLBB shades, it looks that way but on swiping rosey or reddish hints come out.. I guess pigmented lips are a curse!!! :waaa:

    1. Hey, thanks! 🙂 🙂 I thought it would be similar to the lotus one too but I don’t think it is. Try swatching lipsticks on the tips of your fingers instead of your arm/wrist. It gives you a much better estimate of how they would look on your lips.

  2. btw manu i have coral pink..replete with fungus :pan: :pan: :pan: :pan:
although i loved that shade to the core :scream: :scream: :scream: :scream:

  5. manu i liked the shade bt really i have totally stopped looking at these lipsticks these days.these used to be good ones from maybelline once upon a time. :))

    1. Ya, Rati, that is true. I think the Colorsensational ones are better in quality but the color selection of the moisture extreme ones is better. It’s just too bad about the fungus, though 🙂

  6. the shade looks nicee…and great review Manu..but me scared of fungus!!! :tremble: :tremble: :tremble: :tremble: :tremble: :tremble: :tremble:

  7. So true. I wonder what these companies are thinking…firstly the staying power is hilarious..and then they melt, so we can’t even carry them around for touch ups 😛 😛

  8. Hey Manu.. nice review.. me too liked the shade and was also looking for the Coral Pink but after the Fungal alert I am keeping away from these.. :ghost2: :ghost2: :ghost2: trying to look for soem similar shade in Lotus lippies.
