My Experience with Maybelline The Powder Mattes by Color Sensational Red-dy Red Lipstick:

The packaging of the lipstick is nice and matte. The lipstick comes in the regular Maybelline Colorsensational packaging. The lipstick tube is rectangular and comes wrapped in a cellophane paper bearing the product description, ingredients list, etc. The tube has a mirror finish and closes with a long plastic cap.

The cap is color-coded according to the color family that the lipstick falls in. As “Red-dy Red” belongs to the “reds” family, it’s cap is dark red in color. Also, there is a color-coded sticker at the base of the lipstick tube, which bears the shade name. The cap of the lipstick shuts securely making it purse friendly. The brand’s tagline is printed on the lipstick tube with simple black fonts. Overall, I do not find any flaws with the packaging. It is nice and travel friendly.

“Red-dy Red” is a soft and subtle shade of red, which is not too bold. It will flatter every complexion very well. The color instantly brightens up my face. It has a hint of orange which makes it an amazing choice for summers as well. It is a perfect party shade and looks lovely on the lips. The lipstick does not contain any shimmer or glitter. It has a nice powder matte finish. It looks slightly shiny initially but later settles down to a perfect powdery matte finish within seconds.

The formula is decently pigmented and is capable of hiding pigmented lips very well in just two swipes. It gives semi-opaque coverage in a single swipe and the color is easily buildable. Just two-three swipes are good enough for perfect opaque and even finish.

I have fallen in love with the texture of these lipsticks by Maybelline. Normally matte lipstick tend to have a dry texture but these powder matte lipsticks are quite different. These are incredibly soft and smooth. It glides on the lips without any tug or pull. Despite being so creamy smooth in texture, the lipstick bullet does not break or melt which otherwise happens to most of my Maybelline lipsticks (no matter what the range). I am also glad that these powder matte lipsticks do not break or detach from the base.

The formula is great but it has a tendency to cling on to dry patches of the lips therefore prepping up the lips prior to application is mandatory. The color does not settle into the fine lines of the lips. The formula is feathery light and feels ultra comfortable, it almost feels like nothing on the lips. The lipstick is not really moisturizing nor drying, but I still prefer using a lip balm beneath, otherwise my lips get dry at the end of the day. The formula is smudge proof and the color does not smudge even after a heavy meal. There is minimal transfer of color from the lips.

Lasting power is up to 5 hours with slight fading. This lipstick survives heavy meals, fades evenly, leaving a red tint behind. I am actually not a fan of stains, so I go for reapplication immediately. The darker shades from this range leave tint behind which is slightly difficult to remove and can be taken off with a good makeup remover only.
