Maybelline Shine Free Pressed Powder in Soft Cameo Demoralized Me

Maybelline Shine Free Pressed Powder in Soft Cameo Review

Hello gals.. 🙂

Finally the countdown has started for 2015, along with my home trip yay! I am too excited to keep my patience for 2015 now. Anyway, today I am here to share one of my average experiences with Maybelline. I bought this product sometime back on sale, which demoralized me on the very first day of receiving it. Thankfully the product inside is quite decent and wearable. Though I never used it again, ever since I broke its fragile case. Let’s read on further to know in detail about Maybelline Shine Free Pressed Powder in Soft Cameo.

Price:

$4-$6 for 0.45 Oz (12.7 g), price varies across stores.

Product Description:

The power to control shine is at your fingertips. This micro-milled powder doesn’t cake or streak, leaving your skin with a translucent glow. The unique, non-comedogenic, hypoallergenic formulation doesn’t clog pores or cause breakouts, working to absorb oil from your skin for a fresh, long-lasting, natural look. Compact contains powder, puff, and mirror. Dermatologist tested.

Packaging:

Our first and foremost disappointment starts right from its clumsy and fragile packaging. The cobalt powder case was so classy in itself, but it came in a paper carton like any drugstore product, which took hours to detach from the powder case. Even the traces of paper packaging are still stuck on this otherwise beautiful cobalt case, which looks so ugly. The case has no durability and third grade plastic, as it cracked down when I tried opening it wide to look in the mirror. 😛 The applicator is also fine, though the lack of quality is not something I expected from Maybelline. I don’t think its cheap packaging is user-friendly or travel-friendly at all as I had to throw it in my useless stash after a few uses just because the case only opened half way and it was too much for me to tolerate.

My Experience with Maybelline Shine Free Pressed powder in Soft Cameo:

Well I think Maybelline invested all bucks for quality of product unlike packaging, as I did not have much issues with product quality. I picked this Soft Cameo for it looked closest match to my pale skin and it did work fine. It didn’t give me that ghostly white look unlike cheap pressed powders, in fact I felt my skin quite shine free and glowing for few hours. Yes gals, it worked great on my oily skin and never broke me out, even after using it every day at that time. Though it merely stays for 3-4 hours on my oily skin alone over moisturizer.

I am quite happy by the fact that it did not cause any irritation nor accentuated any oily skin issues so far. I can see that it effectively soaks oil and shine off my face, even though it is for a few hours, but it does give me soft yet shine free skin. The powder looked chalky and flaky in the packaging, but it does not look chalky or cakey on my skin thankfully. It blends easily, even with that not so perfect applicator and gives shine free, soft skin.

My only reason of discontinuing it was that cheap and non-user friendly packaging which broke after few uses, there by sitting in my useless stash. It has a faint smell as well which is not over powering and hence it might be suitable for sensitive skin. But it is certainly not for beauties with pigmented or blemished skin looking at its almost translucent coverage. I mean it does sweep oil off the skin, but it does not give any buildable coverage to the skin alone. However, using it over makeup might increase the wear time, plus effectiveness. But the point is we cannot use it with that messy cheap packaging, which never opens up or if it opens up then it never closes down.. 😛 I feel it is not worth getting even for a few bucks unless they replace the packaging. It is beyond disappointment because we do get great quality products in many cheaper brands, but if the packaging sucks we cannot enjoy the product inside, isn’t it?

Pros of Maybelline Shine Free Pressed Powder in Soft Cameo:

  • A shine free, translucent pressed powder with non-comedogenic and hypoallergenic formula.
  • It certainly worked great on oily, acne prone skin. with no break outs and no pore clogging.
  • It gives me a shine free, glowing face for 3-4 hours alone, with simple CTM routine.
  • It did not settle in dry patches nor it feather around fine lines, giving a smooth silky finish.
  • It does not give any white cast or chalky cakey feel on my oily skin.

Cons of Maybelline Shine Free Pressed Powder in Soft Cameo:

  • Very cheap and poor quality packaging.
  • Non-user friendly & Non-travel friendly packaging.
  • My powder case broke after few uses just because I opened it to look in its inbuilt mirror.
  • The powder case only opens halfway which makes it difficult for us to use the product inside without breaking it, which I actually did.

Would I repurchase/recommend the Maybelline Shine Free Pressed Powder in Soft Cameo?

I liked the powder but sadly I cannot use it with that mediocre packaging at all. Probably I won’t get it again because we get that decent wear time and shine free results with any cheap drugstore powders meant for oily skin and I would recommend staying away from this powder.

IMMB Rating:

For me it gets 3/5, only for performance on my skin alone, no considerations on the other aspects.
