My Experience with Maybelline Superstay Berry Heavenly 10 Hour Stain Gloss:

Packaging:
The gloss comes in an opaque, curvy white colored bottle, over which all the details are printed in purple and silver colored fonts. The gloss comes with a color coded plastic cap to which the wand applicator is attached. The applicator is a small, oval shaped sponge one which is slightly tilted and flexible and has a small duct as well to pick generous amount of color. The applicator is sort of difficult to use, it doesn’t apply the color very precisely, especially if one has thin lips.

One can find the shade name at the bottom of the tube. The worst part I experienced with them is that, the sponge applicator tip automatically breaks or gets separated from the wand. I don’t know why and how this happened, and then I hurriedly checked the others shades as well, and one of them broke the same way. I was really unhappy, but then I tried applying the color using the wand or lip brush and yes, it somehow applies quite well with a few swipes.

Shade:
Berry Heavenly is basically a deep berry toned pink color which turns into a pure red color on lips with mild berry undertones. With two swipes, the color appears an extremely bloody red color on lips and no doubt, that looks absolutely fabulous! But, this kind of color is not apt for everyday basis; it only can be worn on weddings and special occasions. This kind of red is suitable for any kind of skin tone.

Texture, Pigmentation and Finish:
The stain has a gel based kind of texture to it which is somewhat between a gloss and a stain. The consistency is quite unique – neither very thick nor runny. The stain itself is very saturated and gives a cooling sensation on application. The stain applies smoothly like a gloss and feels extremely hydrating, though the extremely glossy shine tends to partially fade away from the lips after 1-2 hours. The stain feels extremely comfortable and light on lips; it has no sort of sticky or tacky feel to it.

The trick of application is that apply the first coat and let it dry for few minutes and if you wish to build the color, apply the second coat of the gloss. However, the stain is quite liquid and it doesn’t bleed out of lip lines upon layering. The stain doesn’t settle into the lip lines. And, as long as the glossy part of the stain remains on lips, it neither feel very dry nor does it accentuate dry and flaky lips. The stain is extremely vibrant and pigmented, though not opaque like a lipstick. But, enough to cover flaws of lips with maximum of 2 swipes! For a natural flush of color, you can dab a little product on lips and then use your fingers to spread the color lightly. The finish of the stain initially looks very shiny and wet which I sort of like very much, but it sort of fades away with passing time.

Staying Power:
Well, the vibrant color surely doesn’t last as long as it claims, but yes, it is pretty much long lasting, if used in the right way. When you apply the stain, it actually gets applied as a gloss and remains like that till few hours. Then, after 1.5 hours the extremely glossy finish tends to fade away and then only a partial layer of gloss will stay on lips for another 2 hours, which actually provides hydration to lips. Until the glossy layer fades away it tends to transfer onto everything and eating or drinking between the initial 2-3 hours will take the maximum color away from lips and the stain would appear patchy.

I’ll suggest eating or drinking after 3 hours of application, as after that it won’t transfer onto anything. With that, the glossy and vibrant stain part lasted on me for more than 5 hours and I ate my lunch after 3 hours and it didn’t fade away much, except a little from the inner corners. After 5 hours when the complete glossy layer goes off, the stain starts feeling very dry and stretchy on lips. The stain is easy to remove from lips; you can rub a wet cloth to remove the excess color and then used a makeup remover to take it off completely.

• Maximum color gets washed away very easily by water. So, this stain cum gloss is surely not waterproof.
• I don’t like the color changing tendency of the stain. The lighter color turns dark on lips.
• The glossy part tends to transfer very easily onto everything.
• Can turn patchy after eating/drinking, and the condition looks horrible.
• The vibrant color doesn’t last as long as the brand claims.
• After 4-5 hours, my lips tend to feel very dry and stretchy.
• Availability in India.
• The weak sponge tip applicator!
