Eye makeup is never complete without mascara, you know it and I know it. It’s like the magic finishing touch. Even on days when you don’t wear eye shadow, you’ve got mascara on for sure because it just gives off the illusion of being awake even if you’re not. It’s a basic that everyone uses and it’s a staple for some. But, the tricky part is finding the right one. You’ve got to consider the brush, the formula, the color, the function and etc. Well in this review I’ve got a mascara for you, let’s see if it’ll go on your list next. 😉
My Take on Maybelline Volum’Express The Rocket Mascara In Very Black:
The first and most eye-catching thing about this mascara has to be it’s brush. I mean look at the thing, it’s big, intimidating, different and probably looks hard to use at first glance. I was pretty hesitant about this mascara at first because of it’s brush but it claims to give you crazy volume.Well, it does do what it says. Probably not crazy volume but there is a difference in your lashes after applying this. I noticed that it does add volume to my lashes and it even lengthens it by a bit which is something I can appreciate because my lashes are so tiny, they’re practically non-existent.I usually apply a coat on my lashes and there’s already a notable difference but sometimes if I’m feeling it, I apply a thin second coat on my lashes. There are times when I go crazy and use this after a lash primer, my lashes turn out amazing and super noticeable.
However this brush is actually too big for my bottom lashes. I tend to get it everywhere when I apply it on my bottom lashes and they make my bottom lashes look a little scary if I apply more than two coats. I’d actually just recommend a bottom lash mascara or the film mascara from Maybelline for your bottom lashes.
This is actually the non-waterproof formula. When we hear waterproof, we normally think of smudging and all the other horrible mascara tragedies but this mascara doesn’t smudge. It stays put and doesn’t go anywhere and I have cried with this mascara on before but it didn’t end up in a disaster, it stays put which is pretty amazing I’ve got to say. This mascara is pretty long-lasting on it’s own. It lasts me up to 4-6 hours before it starts to fade a little. However with a lash primer, clear mascara or even both, it stays put all day long. I swear it does.
Sadly, if you apply two or more coats of this, it’ll clump on you and make you look plain horrible. Instead of spider lashes, your lashes will be clumpy, thick and kinda scary which is what you don’t want. Trust me when I say you don’t want that, I know I don’t. Application on the upper lashes is pretty easy with this mascara even though it may seem hard with the brush. You just need to get a little use to the brush and you’ll have no problem after. Plus, it’s got a nice consistency. It isn’t too watery or too thick to the point where it’s like glue. It is also pretty lightweight on your lashes and you won’t feel like something is holding your lashes down.If you’re curious, removal is easy too. It comes off easily with a oil-based remover, which means you won’t have to put any stimulation on your lashes. So girls, you can achieve healthy lashes without having a fuss about removing mascara.
The packaging is the cutest thing ever and I actually got attracted to this because of the packaging. It’s also lightweight and easy to chuck into your make-up bag and just go. You also don’t have to worry about spilling it or the brush going lose cause it’s pretty tight. For newbies, you may find this hard to use and you’ll probably be better off with a basic mascara. But if you’re a long time mascara user or a mascara whiz, this mascara is worth a second look and maybe even a purchase.
