What Men Like in Women

What Attracts Men to Women

As per the ancient hindu text, Manu Smirti, a man’s ideal woman/wife is described in these words: Karyeshu Mantri, Karaneshu Dasi, Rupeshu Lakshmi, Dharmeshu Patni, Kshyama Dharitri, Bhojeshu (Snehushu) Mata, Sayeneshu Veshya, Shat Karmanari, Kul Dharmapatni.

Karyeshu mantri means a wife should be able to advise and assist her husband like a minister.
Karaneshu dasi means a wife should be able to serve her husband like a servant.
Rupeshu Lakshmi means a wife should be beautiful and appealing as goddess laxmi.
Dharmeshu patni means a wife should be a husband’s companion in noble deeds.
Kshamaya dhaitri means a wife should be like the earth in tolerance and forgiveness.
Bhojeshu mata means a wife should be able to feed her husband like a mother.
Shayaneshu veshya means a wife should be like a prostitute in bed and be able to please her husband.

And these qualities are what summed up as the qualities a man looked (looks???) in his ideal woman.

But over centuries, have the winds of change, women’s education and empowerment, and huge western impact brought any change on the psyche of Indian men? I don’t think so.

It is said that women are as mysterious and deep as the sea, but when it comes to men, there is nothing even to compare them with. I am trying here, with my limited knowledge about men on what men really want in their women.

1. Appealing appearance

A man would always want his wife/spouse/girlfriend to look appealing and well maintained. No man would like to tag along someone who is not well maintained and shabby in appearance. It is not necessary that one should have chiseled features or a certain color of eyes or skin to look attractive, a neat and well-maintained frame, mildly fragrant body, and an ENCHANTING SMILE is all that it takes to make men go mad about you.

2. Men like meat, bones are for dogs

Some women are so desperate to achieve the size-zero figure that they starve themselves to bad health and bones and this size-zero fad is obviously for non-health reasons, one of them may be to look more appealing and attractive to men. But, do men really find bony girls pretty. I don’t think so. Poets have always described their dream women as fuller and buxom. More than skinny anorexic girls, men like their women to be SLIM AND HEALTHY. A fuller and plumper Scarlett Johannson finds herself amongst the most sexiest women’s list year after year rather than an ill-appearing skinny bony Mary-Kate Olsen. Even Saif Ali Khan has declared that he did not like Kareena Kapoor in Tashan because she was size zero.

3. Non-nagging partners please

According to a recent research, nagging is one of the main causes of conflict in today’s marriage. A constantly nagging woman who is always at her spouse’s neck, shouting and yelling at him, unnerves the man. A woman becomes the least desirable when she is nagging, howling, and yelling.

4. Men are drawn to women, who look and behave like their mothers.

Men look up to their mothers as the perfect woman and role models and often look out for qualities in his partner that are similar to his mother’s. Mother’s characteristics leave an indelible impression and men are often attracted to people with her features and warmth.

5. Superwoman

Most men hate to admit it, but all men like their sweethearts to be superwoman. She should be able to cook for him, love him, take care of his needs, wash his clothes, iron his clothes, wash his dishes, look after his home, respect his family, work in the office, take care of his family, take care of her own family, do grocery shopping, maintain everything at home, do the cleaning, do the washing, look after his pets, and most importantly give birth and love and care his children. In short, every man wants his wife to be a superwoman…..though they don’t know and won’t admit that “superwoman” is the synonym for “WIFE.”

6. Men like to “own” their woman

Most men are possessive towards their wives/girlfriends and they have a general feeling that they “own” their girlfriends/wives, which is not a bad thing. Once a man commits himself to a relationship with his girl, he likes to call her “my girlfriend” and “my wife”…..well, women also call their guys as “my boyfriend” and “my husband”, but the owner feeling is much more pronounced amongst men. So, if you give them the hint that you are ready to get “owned” by him (not easily ownable), he will be happy.

7. Fragrance

man smelling woman
Fragrance is always seen as men/women magnets. A mild floral fragrance not only makes the wearer confident and appear fresh, it attracts whom you want to attract. Men like their ladies to smell good, many men like to sniff their women’s hair and if you have a smelly oily scalp, it sure would be a turn-off. Likewise, body fragrance should be mild and pleasant and not OTT and headache-inducing. Men find nice and pleasant smelling ladies attractive.

8. The way to a man’s heart is through his stomach

woman cooking food
The proverb “the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach” means one way a woman can get the affections of a man, is by cooking him a good meal. While feminists and highly-evolved creatures and so-called flag-bearers of emancipation of women will disagree, this statement remains a fact and holds water as it had since ages. A woman’s cooking ability is the most desirable of desirable features. Even though, a man would be forced to shut up into silence about this fact, but home-made food cooked by his spouse would make him the happiest. It is said that “proverbs are not necessarily absolute truths, but they are generally correct.” MOST OF THE WELL-FED MEN ARE THE HAPPIEST ONES.

9. Respect his parents

Most of the eligible bachelors (Indian), if asked about what qualities they are looking in their would-be spouses, would blurt out…….”she should be able to take care and respect my parents.” After committing to a relationship, what is the next step a man does, well, take and introduce his girl to his family for their approval. A girl also does not feel the security until she is introduced to the guy’s family. So, family’s approval and nod is important for both the guy and the girl. If a girl is accepted into the man’s family and wins their love and gives them respect and care, the man is bound to be more loving towards his girl.

10. Be a good mother to his children

Last, but not the least, a man is attracted to females who they think would make great mothers. A wild and unaffectionate lady is sure to turn off a guy and make him run for his life. Normally, guys observe how their prospective partners behave around small children and underline in their minds that “yes, she is the one…..she will be a great mother to my kids.”

Well, these above-mentioned pointers are based upon my personal opinion and you are free to add your own points. Actually, even, I would like to know what are the other features in women that men find attractive (actually, I am thinking on ways to convince my husband to let me cut my hair really stylish and I need help).

  3. 2. Men like meat, bones are for dogs
thank goodness :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:

    6. Men like to “own” their woman
I like this to some extent…..but yes I like to have my own space to. It irritates me when I have to just give explanation for everything I do. But then possessiveness is a good thing if its in limit. :waytogo: :waytogo:

“superwoman” is the synonym for “WIFE.” :waytogo: :waytogo: :waytogo: :waytogo: :waytogo: :waytogo:

I would add…. patience to hear his side of the story and forgiving nature would add an extra weightage. O:) O:) O:)

    1. I was happy abt the weight thingy…I’m kinda dieing here to bcum size zero…LIKE DIEING….LOL

      1. Shugra……we are like a happy bunch now…….we don’t want to become size zero……… :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:

  4. Hi Jomol 🙂 Nice article and I do agree to a great extent with your ideas… A couple that I would like to add is that at least my guy likes “change”.. you know a new haircut, a new type of dress (if i wear skirts only then if i suddenly wear shorts) or even a new lipstick… these i think keep men hooked to ONE woman… Dunno how many of u would agree with me though! 🙂

    1. What if a man never notice any change in his partner… No matter what u wearing on ur face n how beautiful u’r looking… Never ever compliment her…

  5. wow…..Suma….thanks for adding….you know it really helps….like I do not know beyond these points and info from you is most welcome :woot: :woot: :woot: :woot: :woot: :woot:

    1. dont know bout sexy n all….but ya my bf likes it wen i wear salwar kameez……….he has never asked me to dress in a specific way or anything like that….i know that i dont look good at all in salwar kameez but still he likes it…its strange to me

  6. oh god……Men………………..a topic on wich guls can write 100000 pages ka essay….and still thr will be lot to understand about them………….and yes this is true that they expect the “motherly” love from u………….dont know y?

    1. I also hav that doubt…. Y do they want u 2 be lik ther mothers?????….OK for instance if they were orphans no problem lekin… they hav mothers ryt?????

      1. Shugra……its like men get unconditional love and attention from their mothers and get shielded from strict fathers and are well fed by their mothers na……..so they expect the woman in their lives to behave in the same way, give unconditional love and care for them :pumpkin: :pumpkin: :pumpkin:

          1. u know navpreet,

I have a pschylogist friend who told me that men are always weaker than women… they always look for support in their women… and moms are their biggest support… so in their woman also… here the gf or wife, they want the same…

  7. oh god hw can we make a “Superwoman”…………….sound is great but in real its very difficult…………. :headbang:

    1. sim…..but all women are really superwoman……and working women are toh supersuperwoman….who take care of their home as well as family………… :jaiho: :jaiho: :jaiho: :jaiho: :jaiho: :jaiho: :jaiho: :jaiho: :jaiho: :jaiho:

      1. yeah kind of superwoman really…………..at least we do better than man to manage the all things ………….and cant never expect this from MAN huh!!!!!!!!!!!

        1. actually if men were to do all these things…they would say they are overworked…..phew :snicker: :snicker: :snicker: :snicker:

          1. and in case of woman …………..this is our duty and sign of good woman huh!!!!!!! this is really not fair…………….but stilll we proud to be woman……………. :shy:

  8. jomol….. very nice list :jaiho: :jaiho: :jaiho: i totally agree 🙂
just adding….i don’t know is it is universal or not… men like surprises and gifts too though they will act like they don’t really bother about it 😉
and yes…. let him be the boss of the road…. don’t give directions until asked 🙂

  9. Ramya…..thanks for adding ……yeah, i agree withj your points…..like whenever i ask my husband to drive slowly or slow down to ask for directions, he gives me angry glances :wilt: :wilt: :wilt: :wilt: :wilt: :wilt: :wilt: :wilt:

  10. the Manu Smriti criteria made me so mad at first. i really don’t care much about these criteria. i am what i am. my boyfriend has to accept that. men are so chauvinist. :spank: :spank:

nice article as always, Jomol.

      1. Thanks Natty :happydance: :happydance: :happydance: :happydance: :happydance: :happydance: :happydance: :happydance:

  12. he he ginni……….same pinch……i only have a few of them……….actually one or two……

  13. I think even women want similar qualities in men 😛 like we would be so much more happier if our husband cooks good food for us , respects our parents ..bcms a good father to our child and most imp. smell good 😛 isnt it ???? 😉

      1. omg shrey i was going to say thatttttt….liike i dont hv any of the above qualitites…but i want my hubbby to have it all…. :woot: :woot: :woot: :woot:

  14. 😛 thanks Rati di 🙂 i think i’ll do a post soon on what girls look out for in their man,Cos i have a big list :D:D

  15. Hi Jomol..nice post…but then don’t we want the same from our men..I have my sympathy for the menfolk too..because they work a lot, in offices all the running around is generally for boys ..and what with social conditioning and all..they are supposed to be the providers for the family..poor things..

    1. Rajeshwari..thanks for presenting the other side of the coin too :thanks: :thanks: :thanks: :thanks: :thanks:

  16. You know what Jomol??? The pointers you gave are exactly similar to the Manu Smriti verses… The male psychology is as eternal as the Sun!!!! It would never change.. Men would just sugarcoat what Manu had written bluntly. But the basic conotations are EXACTLY the same. Your article is the proof.
Women liberation front types organizations have always had a problem with Manu Smriti. What with burning the copies and everything. But i think if a man demands all these things from a woman, it does not make him bad. It makes him a man. That’s what he needs and he demands it. It’s always in the woman’s hands to refuse irrational demands. The only change that has occured over the centuries is in the WOMAN”S tendency to refuse.

Btw, long hair is the most stylish kind of hair. You can do many different hairstyles to change your look. So even I wouldn’t advise you to cute your hair.

    1. Yeah, I agree with you Mrun….but in ancient times….much before manu smriti and all….men weren’t the chaunivinistic kind….at least in kerala….you know…..the property and the lineage used to pass through daughters….like if a man had 4 sons and 1 daughter…..most of his property would go to his daughter and his lineage would be carried forwarded by his daughter’s children…..this happened only in kerala, but the kerala guys are now the most chaunvinistic………….over the time, attitudes have changed….but you said it right…it lies with woman whether they want to get exploited or not…..education and financial freedom have given us the choice to say NO which wasn’t earlier possible 😀

  17. Jomol this was really a very nice post and well written :waytogo: I completely agree with all the points! They are all acceptable until they don’t irritate us 🙂

The cooking part, many feminists may ask why should only women cook (even I ask that question), but I find many women voluntarily accept it and are even hell bent over learning to cook their husband’s favourite dishes.

And men may not go around saying they love us, but they show it in the most surprising way possible.

      1. Men have very fine way to avoiding to do things….”mane nahi faave”…….cmon whats the sciene to making bed or folding clothes? Anyways over the years….I have no complaints as my hubby always helps me out. :waytogo:

      2. I do accept that and I never said men can’t cook Sanjeev ji. But as far as I have seen, men never cook at home and another thing is women never even bother to ask them to cook. Many women take up the kitchen dept voluntarily and look forward to pelasing their husbands with their fav dishes. Thats what i said 🙂

    1. Thanks Maha……there are men full of ego and then there are normal men………….who would understand their wives needs and happiness and that percentage was small earlier….now such men are not hard to find :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:

      1. I know and I am happy to find such understanding men in my own family :yahoo: :yahoo: And the man of my life is the most understanding person I have ever met

  18. jomol ji…superb article :waytogo: :waytogo: …i could relate everything u have mentioned here….I would like to say one thing men take time to be matured ones…atleast in my case… 😛

“the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach” this is so true….i always experiment new things…try new dishes…he is like always appreciating my effort…me love him choooo muchhhhh now… :inlove: :inlove: :inlove: :inlove: :inlove:

    1. Varshini……even my husband na…..he always encourages me to cook and joins me in the kitchen sometimes…….and you know if i cook really trash…..he does not sit and complain about it…..he says its good……actually, my husband never complained about my cooking even though I know I am a horrible cook :smug: :smug: :wilt: :wilt: :wilt: :wilt: :wilt:
