After reading some great reviews about the Milani Color Statement Moisture Matte lipsticks on IMBB, I decided to try them out myself. I picked up a few shades and today, I have the shade “Matte Darling” up for review. Read on to find out whether I liked it or not.
$5.99. Prices may vary from store to store.
Meet your matte. Your fantasy matte. The matte that not only feels great (yes, you read that right – it’s actually comfy) but also lasts for hours and has “a-mazing Instagram selfie” written all over it. Infused with grape seed extract imported from Italy, this smear-proof lip soother delivers mega color that won’t budge, even after a close encounter with a cappuccino cup.
My Experience with Milani Matte Darling Color Statement Moisture Matte Lipstick:
Packaging: This lipstick comes in a beautiful gold packaging with a band at the bottom matching with the color of the lipstick. The cap shuts tight and there is no danger of the cap coming off loose even if you toss it around in your bag. Even though the packaging is quite simple, it looks classy and doesn’t feel flimsy at all.
Shade: “Matte Darling” has turned out to be a pretty confusing shade for me. It looks rosy pink in the bullet and on my hand swatch. However, it translates to an entirely different mauve-y pink on my lips. It looks too blue toned to suit my complexion and doesn’t look flattering on me.
The pigmentation of the lipstick is just okay. While one swipe does cover the lips, I would recommend at least 2 swipes to get a more opaque finish. However, multiple swipes makes the application slightly patchy.
Texture, Finish, Pigmentation: The texture of the lipstick is creamy and it applies fairly well on the lips. I wouldn’t say that it glides smoothly like butter because I could feel a very slight tug. But, it is not something that you cannot work with.
The finish as the name suggests is matte and unfortunately, this is one of those very dry-looking mattes. The lipstick looks quite dull and flat and it also accentuates the lines on my lips. It is surely not a finish that I like.
I would certainly recommend exfoliation of the lips prior to the lipstick application. Also, the lipstick feels drying as the day passes.
The matte formula makes the lipstick stay long – it stays on for around 5-6 hrs with light meals. It doesn’t leave any stain behind.
Pros of Milani Matte Darling Color Statement Moisture Matte Lipstick:
- Decent pigmentation.
- Matte finish.
- Good staying power – around 5-6 hours.
- Classy packaging.
- Very affordable.
Cons of Milani Matte Darling Color Statement Moisture Matte Lipstick:
- This particular shade will not suit all.
- Feels drying on the lips over time.
- The lipstick accentuates lines on the lips.
- Exfoliation is recommended for dry chapped lips.
Would I Repurchase/Recommend Milani Matte Darling Color Statement Moisture Matte Lipstick?
If a mauve matte lipstick at an affordable price is what you are looking for, you can try it out. I did not like the shade or the formula, and hence will not repurchase.
