Blush: How to Mix Blushes

mix blushesI’m a fan of Maybelline blushes but I made a big mistake by buying the Expert Wear Blush in Precious Pink No. 40. I bought this last year when I first began building my makeup kit. The texture of Precious Pink is chalky, it began breaking after a couple of uses. No matter how many times I swiped it, I could never see the colour on my skin, only slight shimmer. What a waste of 209 bucks I thought! In spite of this, I wore it for a little while when I was too intimidated of wearing a blush and now, I do not step out without wearing one, boldly! Imagine!

Anyhow, recently, I purchased the improved version of Maybelline Expert Wear blushes in Potpourri and Apricot Flush. When I say that I’m a fan, I still can criticise them. Although these blushes are quite pigmented, they are a bit difficult to blend. You get too much on your cheeks, you spend ten minutes getting it off.

Precious Pink, on the other hand, is ever-so-sheer, looks peach but comes off as shimmer on your cheeks. Hardly anything! I wear this when I’m too lazy to wear a blush and yet want to acknowledge wearing one. Ever had one of those days, ladies?

When I got Apricot Flush I didn’t think it would look so bright on me. I loved the shade under the white light as it looked peachy. I did not notice the gold shimmer in it then, guess I was too excited. But when I got home and looked at a swatch in natural light, I was very disappointed even though I really liked the colour. I’ve read many reviews that have called this blush most suitable for Indian skin tones. I definitely agree but there was no way I was getting out of the house with gold shimmer on my face!

So one day, by chance I put on Precious Pink and happened to wear one swipe of Apricot Flush. Voila! What a magical combination! The colour came out to be like a light, shimmery bronzer. I absolutely was surprised and loved what I had discovered. So as you see in the picture, the combination of the two was much mellowed down and it still looked like the shade of peach I had in mind while I bought these two. I think, the light shimmer in Precious Pink, when applied as a base, catches the pigmented Apricot colour and helps to buff it out. And you know what? This shade goes with everything! You get a hint of colour without overdoing it and it stays on for a long time.

Another blush combination I tried was the Maybelline Dream Mousse blush in Soft Plum no. 40 and Lakme Forever Bloom Blusher in Ritu Beri Day. Most of you know that the mousse blush has gold shimmer in it which can get quite annoying in the summers when your makeup begins to melt off your face. The Forever Bloom is my first blush from Lakme and it is light pink in colour. Light pink but pigmented. The texture is smooth and the colour has a good staying power. So when I read that you should wear a powder blush over a cream blush to make it stay longer, I mixed the above two shades. The outcome was beautiful!

The colour was a more beautiful, vibrant pink and the gold shimmer is hardly visible. Also, I found a good use for my mousse blush! The mousse blush is for INR 180 and Lakme Forever Bloom blush is for INR 165. Therefore, not only does the colour stay on longer but you get that perfect light pink blush for your cheeks!

I simply had to share it with you all. So before you cry over a blush that does not work as good, try layering another one on top of it.

  3. I always and always mix my blushes. I picked his habit from vimi Joshi. She picks up a little bit of this colour and that colour and then apply it. I tried doing that and now I am so habitual of doing it that I don’t like to apply just a single shade of blush. 😀 😀

Thanks for sharing it , Anuya. It’s an awesome awesome thing to do. :-* :-* :-*
