Today, I am reviewing a cream from one of the famous Korean brand Mizon – the Returning Starfish cream. This cream has been widely recommended by beauty bloggers on the internet and I was very curious to try it out myself. Especially, since it claims to have 70% starfish extract. Read on to find out more.
$32 for a 60 ml tub.
This is a highly functional cream containing starfish extract, the symbol of a strong autogenous power, provides elasticity and moisture to the skin, manages combined skin problems such as the improvement of wrinkles etc. It is a special formula for the shape-memory returning the skin to the optimum condition the skin memorizes.
My Experience with Mizon Returning Starfish Cream:
Packaging: The cream comes in a gorgeous muted gold tin with a cute colorful starfish design on the lid which looks very very pretty. The lid is a screw-on type. A small plastic spatula is provided to scoop out the cream and I like it that you do not need to dip your fingers in the tub.
The tin has a label at the bottom which lists out something in Korean which I do not understand. But the ingredients and directions are also listed in English on the outer cardboard box. The packaging is really classy and attractive.
Texture and Performance: This cream has a very unique texture – it feels like jelly and it actually bounces around in the tub like one. You can poke your finger in the cream or scoop some out; it returns to its original smooth condition in some time as if it is alive.
The cream feels a little gel like when you apply it on your face. It takes some time to get absorbed but once it does, it leaves your skin super hydrated and supple. It does not feel greasy but it definitely leaves behind a slightly dewy finish. I guess this will be a very good cream for beauties with dry skin. For oily skinned beauties, it might be a little rich to use during day time. It would be better to use it as a night cream and you are bound to wake up to smooth, radiant and fresh looking skin every morning.
The cream has a mild pleasant fragrance which I absolutely love. Now, coming to the contents of this cream. The cream indeed contains starfish extract and starfish is supposed to have amazing regenerative powers. Mizon claims that it has transferred those same powers into this cream to rejuvenate your skin and leave it smoother, brighter and plumper. Mizon claim that it is cruelty free, but there might still be some of you who do not like animal related stuff in your cosmetic products, then this cream is not for you.
To summarize, if you can look beyond its bizarre ingredients and are ready to spend $32, this is a very good cream which really leaves your skin super-nourished. It is quite early for me to comment on its anti-aging properties though.
Pros of Mizon Returning Starfish Cream:
- Moisturizes well and makes the skin amazingly soft and supple.
- Mild pleasant fragrance.
- Classy attractive packaging.
- Very little quantity needed and hence the tub will go a long way.
Cons of Mizon Returning Starfish Cream:
- Contains animal extract (starfish extract) which might be a con for some.
- Expensive at $32
- Will not suit oily skinned beauties.
Would I Repurchase/Recommend Mizon Returning Starfish Cream?
If you are fine putting starfish extract on your face and spend $32 for it, it is really a very good cream which makes your skin super soft and supple. I might not repurchase as it will take me a while to finish this tub and by then something fancier will catch my eye 😛
