When we talk about skincare moisturizer holds the top most position. It is necessary to nourish our skin, protect skin from sun damage and environmental irritants, prevent it from dryness and cracking and most important restore the skin’s collagen.

Here are few tips that might help you to simplify your choices when decide to buy a moisturizer next time.

Tips to select moisturizers according to skin type:

Moisturizer for people with dry skin: Moisturizer is tremendously essential for dry skin as dry skin creates many skin related problems like wrinkles, itching, dull complexion and rough skin.

People with dry skin types should use a heavier, oil-based moisturizer. In case you have a very dry skin use petrolatum-based products. Creams that contain glycerin, dimethicone and hyaluronic acid are good for combating dry skin problems. Dry skin face cream or moisturizer must contain various important vitamins like vitamin A, vitamin E and vitamin C.

Moisturizer for people with Oily or acne-prone skin: People with oily or acne-prone skin types should opt for water-based and noncomedogenic products. Water based products will prevent the overproduction of sebum. Products with mineral oils, mineral waxes, vitamin E and petroleum should be avoided as these products can clog pores and lead to breakouts.

Opt for gels or serums as they are easily absorbed by the skin and will not clog your pores. Products that contain Alpha hydroxy acids like glycolic acid and lactic acid, tea tree oil, grape seed oil, aloe vera gel or jojoba oil will be helpful for you.

Moisturizer for people with sensitive skin: People with sensitive skin should opt for moisturizers that are fragrance-free and hypoallergenic. The idea is to be gentle on skin. Avoid products containing alcohols, sulphates and parabens, as they can irritate your skin.

Look for moisturizers which contain any light moisturizer oils like Jojoba, Macadamia, Grapeseed and Maracuja. As they are all natural emollients that are easily absorbed into the skin. Mineral oils are a big no no for any one with sensitive skin.

Moisturizer for people with combination skin: People with combination skin should choose a water-based moisturizer. Moisturisers which contain vitamin A retinols and alpha hydroxy acids are found to be most effective on people with combination skin types.

Moisturizer for people with normal skin: Should choose a water-based moisturizer that has a light, non greasy feel.

Tips for moisturizing:

• Always apply a moisturizer on a clean and slightly damp skin. It helps to seal in hydration.
• Dab small dots on your face and neck and blend in thoroughly. Use upward motion to do so.
• Start with your cheeks and then spread the moisturizer gently to your forehead and nose and lastly the chin.
• Don’t use a moisturizer with SPF at night, as it may lead to clogged pores.
• Don’t forget to moisturize your neck too.
• Avoid using heavy creams or moisturizers around the eyes as these could irritate them and cause puffiness.
